And on the topic of detailing I encourage anyone to stop using tooth picks and grab some higher end brushes from a hobby store. They might be expensive, but trust me they are so much easier to use and you can use one for a long while if you just keep it clean. For detailing like this you would obviously need the smallest ones.

To each their own. :)

Need to use a tooth pick again after painting? Sand paper. ;)

Though I also find the decals a bit odd. Especially since I have some custom made waterslide decals (slovenian licence plates for my 1/24 model kits) which are also white and they are as thin as the regular decals.

They are? Rats. It must be the brand of paper, then. Transparent paper sure is thinner, at least the one I use. Also, thanks on the comments about the detailing. There's not much I can do about it really, since I have a terrible pulse. Even so, the license plates were done, indeed, with a toothpick.

Just a quick test fit. May change them if I can find something else I like better.

@Cano

I found it at my local japanese novelty store (well i guess that's as close as i can get to it...)

There's more at this site:

http://blog-twentythree.blogspot.com/2010/09/aoshima-option-vertex-lang-s15-silvia.html

The series includes the GDB Impreza, Vertex S15, Amemiya RX8, Vertex Mark II (i think), and a mystery car. The blog post really does a good job explaining it.

Here's how the insides look like. The car's screwed together

Ah, they're Aoshimas, thanks. I had completely forgotten about that brand.

Also, all the difference in the world 1600, the car looks almost good with those wheels!

Those wheels look pretty cool R1600, going to try the HW wantanabes? :dopey:

Wish we had novelty stores here... Those Aoshimas looks great. Only Asian stores here are all grocery. :ouch:

Maybe. One thing I really like about this car is that the wheels are held in with a metal strip that is secured in the center. Just like the old Matchbox cars. So its super easy to change them and getting the car to the appropriate ride height is easy too.

I know they stock stuff like this at Marukai, and that's an asian market. It's worth a shot man :)

Cool, I have never heard of Aoshima until now and I'm impressed with the detail of the cars. Nice find.

But what stores carry these? ME WANT NAO!!!!

To each their own. Tooth pick works best for me.

:D

Toothpick or thin brush? Hmmm, I'll experiment with both to see how each one will do when I start modifying my cars.

@Vspec:

The 86GT is a Tomica model. I believe they've been bidding on them from E-bay or something. It was posted a few pages back ;)

There's a store near my house called Tokyo Lifestyle and they have a small collectors section. I'm not too sure if they have anything like that in vegas tho.

Thanks! And I'll look into that store and see if it's in the Chinatown district out here in Vegas. But I see that even Toys R' Us sells Tomicas also, so I'll be hunting like a hawk.

You rather have boring gray than raw alloy?

I would paint them a dark gold, would look great with the Red.

I don't know how Tomica can still compete in the world today (well I guess they don't outside of Asia) because the casings are not that great (very chunky), there's hardly any good tampo printing and the standard wheels suck. The Tomica Limited range should just be 'the range'.

Toys r us only stocks a limited amount of tomicas tho :/ although the detail is amazing. Just need some wheel swaps to really pop! The wheels are very limited. I dont think the gt86 is sold here, but you can get a r35 and toyota mark x

Darn, I'll have to see about online then. But at least I can find the other JDM cars though :D.

Currently making adjustments to the CRX I bought last night. Taking step by step photos along the way too. Will post here and update the OP when I'm finished.

Edit: Teaser. :sly:

Poll: What color wheels? White? Gold? Black? Silver?

Man, it's amazing how much it changes without the bottom half of the car chromed 👍 I'd say white to combine with the rest of the car; I also reckon the chrome part would have looked cool in gold. I thought you were gonna strip it completely.

Going the easy route on this one. Figure the top half looks great, may as well leave it.

I was thinking white as well. I'll be picking up the wheels tonight after I go see a movie, and will have finished or near finished photos up tomorrow after I detail the interior/engine.

I'm no expert, but white sounds great to me. 👍

God, that does look great! If I had your skill set at this, I'd get a third CRX, and rid the two-tone altogether. Don't get me wrong, the car looks great so far.

I just brought home a Heat Fleet '11 Fish 'N Chip'd, because I feel like this car would make a superb looking ride in flat black.

Phantom Cruiser... oooooooh scary!

Niiiccee! :)👍 I would go with either black or white wheels. Either of the two colors will go great with the two tone.

I'd go with black or silver wheels. White might look weird with the white bottom half. Unless that's the look you're going for.

I need to find this one. I have visions for it. Lol.

Same here... though unfortunately no chance of me getting one other than Ebay (don't sell hot ones over here).
Nice Benz BTW M-POWER 👍

Looking forward to see the Miata finished R1600, please make sure you do the windshield surround justice though (looks iffy just as clear plastic), as for the CRX, i'd personally go with gold wheels to balance out evenly the minimal gold tampos with the rest of the car, i'd also be tempted to put some red on that B16 cam cover, along with a bit of chrome on those headers.

I can't wait to get my hands on one, i have loads of sweeet Honda (& Mugen) tampos in perfect scale for that thing :D
