Some paint came off while attempting a tampo delete. :indiff:

Enjoy Hot Wheels quality. I lost count many moons ago of how many HW cars have suffered the same destiny in my hands. See it on a positive note, you now have a complete repaint project you can do to your own taste. My recently completed 65 Mustang -the one with the diffuser I talked about two pages or so ago- came to be that exact way.

Had a learning curve this morning... did some spraying of another Hotwheels Monster Truck body in prep for a police livery - using Revell Gloss White (#04). The paint came out pretty nice which I'm pleased about as I had read mixed reviews about spraying any gloss white, anyhow, once I was done I decided I'd give the Air brush a more thorough clean, but in the process the trigger came completely out and I ended up having the whole thing in its component pieces! Not what I was intending, but I guess it means I now know a bit more about how it works which is always a good thing. I gave it a test spray with some windowlene and all was well so fingers crossed the next time I put some paint through it, it will be ok. Getting quite a line up for 'the paint shop' but lacking in time somewhat at the mo! Hopefully be able to post some progress pics soon...

Same here, I've got like 10 cars waiting to be finished, need to be lowered, touched up, detailed you name it. Is it just me or do you go through all the effort to paint a car, then when you paint it, loose the motivation to finish it as it already doesn't look how you want it to? I've got like 2 here like that.

Well been thinking about doing wheel swaps and putting 5SP's on these since Corgi's are known for using cheap looking wheels on pretty well detailed vehicles. (Just my opinion)

However, I can't really make up my mind if I should do it of not. So I would like to hear everybody's input on this. Should I put 5SP's on them, yes or no?

Leave them alone, they're in too good of a shape to be broken, and they're not really well detailed either, they're worth more in minty condition just as you have them.

Your right, I knew I had a reason to be hesitant about this, I should just leave them alone since there in good condition. There not "extremely detailed", but I find them to be better detailed than some vehicles I have seen these days. The Testarossa comes to mind. I personally find it to be better than the Hot Wheels variant.

Guys I'm after a bit of advice as I progress a mod.

IMG_3434.JPG IMG_3437.JPG

I've given this NSX a good number of coats with Tamiya Orange, and now I need to add some large Black areas to it. Namely the bonnet, front wings, rear engine panel & snorkel, and the spoiler. So, should I be looking to brush paint these with Tamiya Black straight from the pot? With/Without masking? I've not taken a mod past single colour before so would appreciate some input from those that have.

Many thanks
Ant

Too large of an area (bonnet, rear-engine panel) to brush-paint it succesfuly. Mask it up and spray them.

In that stage, spray painting can be extremely frustrating.

I wouldn't want to put the can too close because I want to reduce the chance of pigment seeping in through tighter areas I couldn't mask off perfectly, but at the same time, if I spray from afar, the paint coat isn't smooth.

@Ustad those are sweet!!! Love them!!

@AOS- & @Cano I've got some Tamiya tape and also mixed up my own version of Humbrols Maskol (Latex for halloween wounds and a bit of food colouring, so what do you think of doing a rough masking, and then getting the edges with the latex? I'll be airprushing, not going from a can.

If airbrushing, you should have no trouble with the Tamiya tape. Mask away and shoot it.

also, that silver Supra over there with the BBS wheels looks surprisingly good.

How long is the tape safe to leave on the paint for roughly? Just wondering if I can take my time to tape up one evening when the kids are in bed and paint another night?

In my experience, it's safe to let it on for a couple days, but! you might not want to let too much time pass from when you mask the car up and actually paint it, as the tape can come undone here and there and you'll have drip-bys. After you've painted it and letting it dry? Yeah a couple days won't harm at all.

Had a look. Here's my reaction:

:drool::
-Mountain Mauler
-green/black Belvedere
-blue woody gas guzzler
-Ferrari 250 LM

The BRE Datsun livery and the Ghostbuster theme is getting so stale. You guys seen people sticking the "DATSUN" label on Nissan, Mazda and Lambos? I question whether these people can read or not.

The green/black Belvedere is painted after an old Mexico City taxi pattern, they were called "cocodrilos" or Crocs. We contacted the guy as he worked really well and is a local, he'll be a featured customizer in the future 👍

As for the Ecto/BRE themes, yes they are pretty stale, but sadly, people keep coming back to them. The BRE theme doesn't really bother me because it's pretty awesome  and in the case of Canchola's car, it's inredibly well achieved, but I can't wait for the Ecto fad to die. It never will.

So many awesome cars in that in that post @Cano Your Mustang looks badass (real track ready look to it) as does Ahmeds gasser. Really like that rod (don't know what make and year) with the salt on the wheels and the Ferrari 250 too.

[EDIT]

Oh and the Golf too.

That completes my drool quota for the day.

Thanks @Cano, I'm working from home tomorrow so might have it on my desk as a little side project in between work tasks :D

Forgot to ask... for getting in some more intricate places, should I use a sharp craft knife to trip the masking tape, and make sure I press the edges with a tooth pick?

Yes but not too much as the glue could pull out the paint when unmasking. Softly do it immediately before painting.
