Some trick I learned from a video to reduce the tack on tape, you can lay it down on your pant leg (I would use something like denim), and take it off. The tack should be partially gone. Some of it is on the fabric, some of the fabric's lint is stuck to the tape reducing the sticky bit's area of contact. Do more if necessary, but don't over do it because you don't want your tape to not stick at all.

Just avoid cotton, or what can release lint if pulled on.

All of this, but not with any fabric. Just use your fingers. In fact, that's how you're supposed to apply masking tape in a repainted car. A car retaining it's factory paint will withstand full tape glue because that paint is oven-dried, but a resprayed car needs some glue to be taken off of the tape.

I know I said a couple earlier, but this one took forever so you only get one for now.

That's what I need to try next time I paint. I keep forgetting about it, and I see people post some smooth high gloss finishes after cooking it for some time.

The wife has been kinda wanting to try to craft stuff with that policlay, so we've been entretaining the idea of aquiring a small electric oven. Putting the cars there indeed adds another reason to get one, indeed. Power bill be damned

The truck? Seen tons of them, you didn't say you wanted any.

Haha, I frankly had totally forgotten about it until I saw your swapped one yesterday  those will be peg-warmers here sooner than later so I'm not too worried about them.

I want to get into it too, but I read someone's comment stating once you bake painted stuff in the oven, you shouldn't use it again for food due to a safety hazard (mainly spray paint). I probably won't get into it, but I'd get my own toaster oven because they're thankfully compact.

Guys, I've just given the Orange NSX a coating of Black on the unmasked bits... how long should I leave it before I remove the tape?

I take it off as the paint is still wet. If you leave it to dry it can leave a rough edge as the paint 'breaks' when you take the masking tape off.

Though if the coat is too thick taking it off too soon can cause the paint to spill a bit.

@Emmcee Love the RX7, colour combo suits it. That R34 is also looking good, awesome front widebody treatment but not as keen on the rear arch blisters. I think it would have worked better with a slight rounded flare on top of the widened blister, to harmonise more with the front. Still looks excellent though. 👍

@Apok Strange as it seems, i remember having a Matchbox buggy that was purple with yellow spots.. the 70's was a great decade.

Thanks nessy, the skins was tricky because I wanted to try and keep the original sort of shape, here's some more pics of it.

Still gotta do some minor touch ups

Here's some more of the rx7, it was tricky as the casting is from 1993 I think, detail was very minimal so I had to make the rear lights out of putty as it had none.

These need touching up to.

This is the original rx7 casting

This is what I mean with no detail

@Apok, I took your advice and took the tape straight off carefully with knife and tweezers. I was really happy with how the tape came off, and with the clean lines it left. I'm happy with the colours and the coverage, but wish I had left a little more Orange at the front. I just couldn't think of a line that would have given a good balance though.

The Tamiya masking tape was really nice to work with and cut easily.

Once the tape was off...

I used the same mix to paint a chassis that I bleached - which turned out to be white, not black... so I sorted that...

Again I was really please with the covering and finish.

Just FYI I used Tamiya X-1 Gloss Black, mixed 2ml paint : 1.5ml IPA and still had about 20% of the mix left.

Feedback and comments are appreciated!!

@cfun What brand is that... Acura?

Has anybody done a Gulf Racing car recently? I'm working on one but I'm not sure how to approach it.

@AOS- I got your package the other day, thanks a bunch man!

Here's a second one I'm making. The M3 wasn't doing it for me.

The one thing I plan on improving from the last container I made is to have the base snap into place, hold, and be able to come apart easily. Biggest problem with these projects is that I have to find cars whose rear axle width is wide enough to fit the keys, and figuring out a way for the base to hold onto the body easily. I was thinking of magnets, but I'll have to look up whether that will hurt my phone or not, because they go in the same pocket.

Another really cool thing I did was shave down my keys and didn't have to split any axle apart. :)

That key chain is an awesome idea, bit pointless for me though I have heaps of big chunky keys. Nice color vega to. Obviously A different base than original vega.
