Hey guys. I launched my Diorama project and right now I'm in the context study phase and would love some help since I'm sure you guys have more experience in a garage than I do. It's going to be modern garage with the messiness of a repair shop. But before getting into specific ideas, the longggggg original post is located here where I basically document the project from beginning to end. But to give you the shorter version, I'm asking you guys to identify what you personally think makes a garage look like a garage. I'm gathering this info to compile a list of things I would like to add to the garage. If I can find and buy small scale objects, I would, but if I can't, I'm going to have to model it in CAD and have that 3D printed at school.

If you guys can give me some ideas or even a link to a place that sells model props at 1/64th scale, that would be greatly appreciated. To make mine stand out and possibly look less conventional, I was thinking that everything in the garage would be painted a gloss white. Everything. From fuel tanks, tire racks, cabinetry, walls, floors, and even manual tools. Why I seek to do that is so that I'm not creating the illusion of a real garage, but a depiction of a garage with all visual focus on the car itself.

Anyway, input please!
:D

3D printed? Geez, I'd sure love to have that available at my school. :D

If done right the 'paint everything white' idea could turn out really awesome.

I like your idea with making everything white a lot. 👍👍👍
Maybe one of these would be a good investment. I've been wanting almost everything that M2 Machines has out.

Are you a CAD student as well? :dopey:

I'm not a CAD student, and those lifts might be an alright idea. I could use it to hold wrecked cars :dopey:

Oh I also am aware some of you guys collect playsets and stuff. If you know of certain playsets (maybe Matchbox?) that have garage pieces I can use, please let me know.

AOS-

Check walmart and TRU, some M2 kits have lifts and two cars. I was interested in one with i belive 2 69 camaros. The lift is 1:64 and is usually red

You buy tons of cars, A small diorama takes up less space... well, mine will anyway. It's going to be no bigger than 12 x 6 x 8.5 inches.

Google. DeviantART. GettyImages.

Took a look. seems like my best bet, as far as printing textures and whatnot. Thanks. 👍

omfg everyone doing a garage diorama now. Wish I had the space.

I'm doing a pretty small one. I think it's a 6x4 box. Trying to make it proportioned to the cars. Basically a 2-3 car garage.

Poke around Garage Life's website if you want to find some really awesome garages to base stuff on. It's in Japanese but you can just click around and find cool stuff. http://www.garagelife.jp/

WOW, that's why I love everything about the Japanese. Since I'm making a small garage, this site is great for ideas! Thanks!

Now this is a good start for the theme setting, as long you can put it together with the all white theme, it'll look great. A all white JDM garage, I can see it.

AOS, what about adding a dyno machines, computers and maybe two additional lifts for "WIP" or work in progress cars. Maybe a Nitrous Oxide refill bottles to dress it up. ;)

I'm going to leave out dynos and computers in general. I did think of disassembling a few cars to make it look like it's being worked out though. :D

While I was home from classes over the weekend, I went through my house and gathered up all my donor and parts car and now I have 70 that I'm going to tear into. Most of them will be winter projects.

I've had this flash drive for a few months, and I'm not sure if I want to do anything with it.
It's already very detailed. The Zippo is purely for scale.

More supplies while I had some extra cash.
Perfect for exhausts and axle spacers! :dopey:

Pretty sure that's the right size, no? I can double check when I get home...

Or are you trying to use them on some other brand? 1/16 works perfect for Hotwheels.

All I know is that the internal diameter is too small for even the axle to fit into, let alone the cap on the end. Unless you cut the axles when you re-size them...

Ah yes, you have to cut the axle in the middle. 👍 If you need to shorten the axle, then you'll have to trim some off after you cut it. If lengthening, then the trimming isn't necessary. Once you insert the axle into the tubing, make sure to leave just enough space that the wheels can still spin and then crimp them so that they don't fall out.

Okie doke, gotcha. 👍

By the way, I made a quick run to Home Depot to buy that paint stripper you use and my goodness does that stuff work good!
My Testors "Easy Lift Off Paint & Decal Remover" was just not cutting it. However, that stuff works perfect for removing just tampos.

That's what I figured. :ouch:

__________

Edit: This is what I started tonight. A Maisto '67 VW 1500 Notchback.
As of right now I only have the body painted and this is obviously before that.
Hopefully it'll be done by the end of the week. I'm so excited! :D
