hahaha you opened a 100% Hot wheels to wheel-swap a basic-line Cadillac?

now, if I rememebr correctly, you can pop off most 100% wheels out without having to drill the car open. Right?

I probably got that set when I was less than ten years old and didn't know any better.
Plus, its fragile wing had broken off. :ouch:

So you're telling me they were played with and such? Could you have fixed the wing?

I know they are hideous with all the graphics and everything, but still opening a 100% car makes me cringe a bit. A friend of mine does it all the time and it's like omFg.

I took excellent care of all my Hot Wheels and it (was) in mint condition, but if you personally saw that wing, you would understand how it broke. I know I have the wing somewhere back home. Somewhere...

I'll look into thsoe wheels, they look good on modern cars and I need some wheels that fit newer cars, to see if we can reproduce them.

They're a little smaller too and look better because they're the size they should be.
Let me know what they're called when you find them. ;)

I don't think you can put a name on these sicne they are not regular production wheels, most of the wheels featured in 100% cars were tooled exclusively for the car they are in, sometimes they appear in two or three cars but that's it.

Man how I miss this lineup. It's arguably the best series HW has ever made.

Oh, okay. :indiff:

I hope you're talking about 100% Hot Wheels and not the Tuners 2 set!

So some jerk outbidded me while I was at work...Just lost a bunch of stuff, and now I have to make it from scratch. :grumpy:

I'm sure you'll still do an excellent job AOS.

I know you guys get tired of seeing my crumby painted white wheels, but i thought i'd try them out on this Porsche:

Decided that this S2000 was in need of a wheel swap, and ride height adjustment aswell.

(forgot to take pics of it, prior to the adjustments that can seen now).

Do you guys know what vehicle I would be able to use for a roof rack similar to this?
I want one for the Notchback I'm working on and I think it would look great with one of them. I really don't want to make one even though I know I could. :yuck:

I think there is an MB Jeep with a plastic removable roof rack - but I'll have to wade through my collection to confirm for sure.
Here is the London Taxi I'm working on.

make it yourself. You'll never get one of those off any car.

^Like Cano said McZachen, have a go at making one yourself.
Don't know whether you've already peeped what M-POWER_FTW did for his Beetle, but i think it looks way better than anything you'll find on an existing diecast.

Here:

Oh yeah, I remember seeing that a while ago.
I had already planned how I was going to make one; with wire and veneer.
I'm just concerned about not having clean bends in the wire and having the straight pieces curved slightly. :indiff:

Oh, it'll happen. You'll have to retry it several times, specially with something as small and delicate as a roof rack. If making a rollcage this way is difficult...

When it's all said and done though, I'll be more satisfied with myself for custom making something like that. I shall make a run to Hobby Lobby after school today! :D

Ah yes of course, when you finally end up with something that looks good and that you did yourself after discarding several tries and whatnot, it is really cool.

Cano, McZachen - I know that feeling, too, been there done it enough times. Then you stand back and look at the finished product and you think, yeah, that's cool, that's what I wanted.
Even better - the fist-pump that comes, when by some serendipity you discover that you did even better than you could have imagined.
M-Power's legendary Volks of course is inspiring - give it a go, try different materials, different techniques, discard immediately you're not happy - don't force it - and try again.
As I mentioned before a few odds and ends in the MB range have clip-on/clip-off struts, roll-cages, etc, that may be painted (or left as is) and placed on the roof of your VW (half-sloping roof?).
Somewhere back in this thread you'll also find His Awesomeness Cano's Land Rover with the masterfully painted Top from the Dune Dog.

The HW Toyotas also look good for salvaging roll-cages for hood-racks.
Plus - you'll have lights on your hood-rack. Macho.

I should have an update on my latest CRX this week, and I'm trying to make a perfect copy of the JDM Legends SA RX-7. Need to find some dark bronze paint first.

I picked up a 1/32" X 1/4" X 24". sheet of balsa for the roof rack at Hobbytown USA for 33 cents! For that price, it may as well be free. :dunce: And some wire as well.
There was a beautiful piece of 1/32" X 6" X 12" birch that I really wanted until I saw its $8 tag.

Edit:
Oh, I found out today that my local Hobby Lobby has licensed model paint colors such as Plum Crazy, Sublime Green, Daytona Yellow, Hugger Orange, etc if you guys don't have access to those specific colors.

Edit 2:
Dear Master Cano, do I have permission to drill this one out?

It wasn't a Dune Dog, it was just some random Jeep.

It's most recent appearance was in a 5 pack two years ago, it's quite scarce.

I wanna see dat. I'm really interested in seeing how one of those comes out with the chrome painted out.

Screw you all and your hobby stores. I so wish there was something like that in here. There are but they suck unlimited.

As for drilling out the Meyers Manx, sure as long as you send me those front tires!!! I've always wanted them, they are ABSOLUTELY perfect for landspeed racing applications, and I have a 32 Ford in the works...

Screw double posting. This has been done for a while but only now did I take pics. It started off with this 1934 Ford 3-window coupe that came out like in 2009, with very very good flames tampos. So it received the same treatment as the 32 Ford and Dodge Van I previously posted.

First came a deep coat of clear over the body to make the matte black shine. The fenders received their share too, so everything would shine the same. The running boards are part of the interior piece and remained in their natural plastic finish.

Next came masking off the grille as good as I could (it is really, REALLY tiny) in order to paint the grille shell and headlamp buckets black. The dash also received black.

While all of the above dried, the chassis was modified to accept the new wheels. I used the Dremel to trim away some metal -easier said than done- and plastic strips were used to lower the car a bit.
IMG_7725.jpg

Last step was fabricating some glass, as the yellow windows didn't suit the street rod look of the car. A Coke bottle was again used.

With the new shoes it looks like dis:

The black grille shell and detailed headlamps. Came out pretty decent considering that masking such a small areas was a pain in the rear.

Taillights touched up:

Co-molded 5s are some fo the most hot roddish wheels HW has released, even though they are not rubber-tired.

And that's it. It has more work than it seems, but it made the look of the car.

That looks Great! Cano, a definite improvement over the original, i think it would also look good with some Lakester type front wheels maybe. (hint hint )

[EDIT], The rubber rears would look good too... he'd still be left with the chassis, interior and body.
