:@:Cano Even if it's lightened up from the silver?
:@:Jason What wheels are you going to use; its stock MC5s?

Edit:
Sorry for the double post, my computer didn't redirect me to the new page my post was put on; otherwise I would have saw it. :grumpy:

If i may make a suggestion R1600, once the wheels are painted, how confident would you be to get a sewing needle, some silver paint and starting from the center of the spokes (outer diameter) start adding the split rim bolts?... obviously not the same measured amount just enough to look convincing, and i know that bit of wheel is marginal... but i think it still can be done.

As for the gold vinyl measuring problem.. that is indeed a tricky one, was gonna suggest sticking some paper to the roof and maybe taking some pencil rubbings bonnet sides etc). but i doubt that'll work very well, best bet would be electrical tape, engineering ruler, protractor and a whole heap of patience/head scratching.

So far I've put a piece of painters tape on the car, cut out the pieces that are not needed and have drawn the lines about where they need to go. Then the plan is to carefully pull it off, stick it to the vinyl, trace around it and straighten up any lines, then carefully cut it out with a sharp exacto. I'm wondering if trying to clear coat over it when I'm done is a good idea...

Here's what I'm trying to replicate:

Actually, that shouldn't be all that hard to achieve (having seen the pics), would have thought adding clear should be fine.. but it's always wise to do a test spray over the vinyl on a piece of material before you go ahead.

I think I've been inspired to take this a bit further. I had already removed the tampos and was going to keep the original paint, but may strip it and start from scratch. I'll post updates when I can before and after I move into an apartment here shortly...

Got the paints I need.... minus a can of flat white. The small jar will be used to get hard-to-reach spots before laying down the spray coat. Now I just got to make the damn props. I might actually skip out on a few things and dumb it down even more.

Was bored, so I did a simple wheel swap. The new rear wheels are actually too wide, but I'm going to file down the axle area on the base and it should fit nicely.

After.

I picked this up Thursday at Target. As soon as I got back, this is what became of it. Let's just say it's going from a Land Cruiser to a Land Slammer.

What I crudely outlined in green is what I plan on grinding off until flush with the rest of the base. This is so it is able to be lowered more effectively.
I don't know how it will look, but it should be the world's first slammed Toyota Land Cruiser. :D

And this here is a sneak peek at my ongoing projects. :dopey:

Dodge truck looks awesome, but it would be even more awesomer with a paint-job, I think.

As for the McZ's Land Cruiser, I think new paint-job would've been really cool. I had to pass on a purple Land Cruiser. I'm fully expecting blasphemy with a low-riding Land Cruiser. It sounds SO wrong.
*edit Looking forward to your upcoming projects though. 👍
Here's what I'm trying to replicate:
Those smaller stripes looks impossible. :nervous:

That is what I'm talking about. I absolutely love the casting, but as I mentioned in the 'collector' thread, not a huge fan of the wheels/tires.

See, I'd love to see Boulevard series release it exactly like that, with the near-perfect paint-job and everything, but with those guys, I know that they will put some really shiny wheels on it, which may or may not be OK, then butcher the looks of it with something like hot-pink magenta or something with gold pin-stripes.

Nice work Jason. 👍

Edit: I may have to learn how to do this. It's amazing how much wheel-swap can cure, or upgrade!

I'm kinda iffy on the white though. I bought 3 sets of those wheels, so may switch it to the standard gray and put these white ones on the CRX.

Yeah, gray might work better. I'm of the impression that it's quite flexible on the types of rubber tire/wheel it will look nice with. I figured you are still looking at options, but it just look so good already!

M-Power - you turned a Maisto into a Redline? :)

The original wheels were ghastly - all the Maistos that have those wheels should be modded. The Maisto quality seems to be improving with the new castings - esp the paintjobs and tampos. The metallics they come out with are really great. I have a whole bunch of Maistos that need to be modded - but, wheels, wheels, wheels - Cano, what's happening to the wheels?

McZachen - you . . are blowing my mind. Land Slammer? What next? Monster Kart? Two-wheeled Hovercraft?
Actually there is a Hover bike in production.

Sir,
The new wheels you put on my Celica are unsatisfactory. Little girls by the roadside are going " eeeuw" and making other puking, mewling sounds.
Please change these wheels immediately to reflect my wealthy and macho status.
Thank you,

Bill. I Niore.

Dear Bill,
Sorry about that. Have replaced with luxurious gold lace.
Call me! We must do lunch!

Harry ^, i love the TE37's but yeah, the gold laces suit it a lot better. Harrys garage done a good job. 👍

R1600, Definitely the grey option, Damn i wish i had those wheels.. they'd be on everything i own. Cool sneak peek of the zemac RX7 too.. really looking forward to it. 👍

McZachen. Those particular wheels on the blue/primered 510, just look so right imo. Love it. 👍

Cano, i'm excited to hear that you're looking into the chroming process for the wheels. Will be well worth the wait. Even if it turns out you can't chrome them, i'll still purchase many sets. 👍

Yeah, Cano - wheel those deals out!

Well, Dr. At1, I can't vouch for my men anymore. This new DVA seems to be affecting everybody that comes in contact with the Celica. I heard they had Goodyear slicks on a customer's car last night and were mixing it up with some racers at the Harrisville Speedway.
If the customer gets to know and complains, these guys are history.

I might have to close shop. Or actually work myself.
Damn, there go my afternoons of golf.

The Celica looks awesome with the gold Lace wheels. I know what I'm gonna do with one as soon as I can grab extras for taking apart.

Anyway, I'm also gonna show you all another quickie, a 1970 Camaro from Matchbox. I have had one of these for 15 years and always wanted another one to detail and wheel swap, and just recently one fell in my hands in remarkably good shape. there is nothing wrong with how it comes from the factory, but it can do better.

So...
IMG_4566.jpg

You may have noticed the glass didn't come off the car, it was riveted to the body.

Detailing process involved a black chin spoiler, black grille and headlamps, and chrome bumpers.
IMG_5734.jpg

Out in the rear I left the bumpers body color, and just detailed the taillights.
IMG_5733.jpg

Inside I painted the interior in matte black so it would look like it's black inside.
IMG_5736.jpg

In these pics you can also see the glass rivetted to the body.
IMG_5737.jpg

The wheels I had planned for the car were my beloved Co-molded 5 like the ones in the 34 and Dodge van, but these had too much play within the chasis and looked damn horrible tucked way inside. I had to make "spacers" out of pieces of cable wrap.
IMG_5735.jpg

Yes, I know they look like a mess but if done right, once they are pressed between the chassis and the wheels they don't move at all. No I didn't glue them together again because of severe risk of glue getting into the axle tube and then going to the wheels, effectively ruining their capcity to roll (been there...). They have held themselves just fine.

And that was all, really. The thing came out fine, the big-sized Co-Moldeds look right in place in the bigger-than-normal car, typical of early 90s TYCO-era Matchboxes.

I am, however, thinking of redoing the front suspension of this thing, the stance in front is horrible. The side-on view really makes it apparent. I'll have to slam it more.

Might want to do something about the rust on those axles while you're at it.
