as for detailing iam missing most of my index or "bird" finger on my writing/painting hand so I try my best.
flames are all hand done. I use an artists brush, thinned out testors enamels and a steady hand. The paint is HOK tangelo and the carbon fiber look was done with Testors black lacquer and Alclad II chrome. Found the mesh out of a trashed laptop bag.
tires are made out of automotive vacuum plugs. I kept searching to find rubber 'o-rings' that fit.
I'm going to try my hand at making American Racing Libra rims for my Datsuns/Toyotas. Hopefully get it looking correct and will try and resin clone them.
Pretty sure I know the answer, but is there a way to rust the bare metal on a Hot Wheels?
yeah, I had Libre's on my 1st 510 back in high school circa '86. I had boxes and boxes of 510 parts my dad threw out when I moved out back in '89. When I was 18, I had 3 510's at one time..2 for parts and 1 running. I swapped the Libres off the runner with stock 200sx 15's and sold them with 1 of my parts cars to wrecker for $200. Pops didn't want the parts car in front of the house...
Ungh, that sounds like a bitter pill to swallow have you considered getting another one? (:
also, pics of the cars? :0
life in the way..kid in college, other getting ready for prep school. wife says no project cars. need reliability right now.
always searching though. and no longer on west coast[SF bay area]. Philly area has terrible roads and winter snow and salt a killer. I did take pics of my car but they are stashed in boxes. prices on 510s going way up....
:0 didn't know that, you do a heck of a job if so! Still, get a better photo
Thanks, no your right about the photos but, the only problem is I can only take them if an iPhone and when I turn the flash on its to bright and bounces of the cars and you can't even see the cars if you know what I mean? So I have to try sort something out.
Sneaky preview: Got some paint stripper on the way home. All are loosely put together so their ride heights are not correct. Xterra wheels are final (this will also get a small lift) the Titan wheels are not final (using same wheels but with a different color) and the Datsun 620 wheels are not final at all.
The Titan will sit a little higher, the axles were not glued in so they were not at the correct height, same with the Xterra. The Datsun wheels are from that standard Auto World car I did the failed wheel swap on.The ride height of the Titan looks spot-on @R1600Turbo. Pic of the chassis.
And the Datsun looks pretty good with those wheels. What are they off of?
you may want to use aircraft remover for your paint removal. I lucked out and picked up 5 cans of it on clearance at Advance Auto for $.05 each - no kidding. The salesman was like '5 cents??' WTF! I took all 5 cans. They were really out of date but they work fine.my current project, fast and the furious supra
that was a pain took me like 3hours to take the paint off with an x-acto knife anyways is it ok if i can post a build process of my evo x?you may want to use aircraft remover for your paint removal. your paint will be much cleaner when you remove all the residuals from the casting
I use sliced up wheel poly caps from (unfinished) Tamiya/Fujimi 1/24 model kits. They tend to work pretty well, but availability may be a problem (not sure whether they sell packs of them).I had some paint remover in a spray can I bought from Walmart some time ago and went searching for it recently to no avail. So I stopped at a Pep Boys on the way home last night and picked up a can of Duplicolor Paint Stripper in a can for $6 (ouch) and it worked fantastic on the 3 cars in the photo above.
Edit: @Nessy what did you use for your axle spacers again?
You scraped it all off with an x-acto knife? Talk about dedication, but paint stripper is so much easier.that was a pain took me like 3hours to take the paint off with an x-acto knife anyways is it ok if i can post a build process of my evo x?
Yeah I did some searching and found it. You were also using bronze tubing, I'm looking at spacing wheels with the stock axles. Going out on the town in a bit (probably a bad idea today) so I'll see if I can find something.I use sliced up wheel poly caps from (unfinished) Tamiya/Fujimi 1/24 model kits. I tend to use brass tubing, as i find it easier to work with than aluminium.
