updated pics of 510/Titan combo. really love using urethane paint. sooo easy to clean up after and the paint lays smooth. cures in hours too!!
Does anyone else use Parafilm? I have been using this to mask for many, many years.

AGH. number tampos off kit car decal sheets? Or do you have access to clear decal printing?

Also, color me interested in Parafilm, I've never heard of it. Care to share some info or links on it? :0

EDIT: Oh and also, those are coming along extremelly well, I really rally like the color combo/livery as of now, can't wait for the final result.

that's the 1:1 ^^

the decals my buddy made me on his home plotter. I haven't looked into clear decal printing yet. I try to use what I have on hand at work. Testor's used to sell 'parafilm' but they called it something else when they sold it. I buy it off ebay and it's way, way cheaper. Labs use parafilm to cover beakers in experiments. Thing is it's resistant to all paints that I've used, easy to work with, molds around anything. You use the heat of your fingers to get it to stick.

Oooh cool car. You replicated the rear fenders quite well!

As for the decals, home plotter? They're cut-plastic, then? More info on them please!

And I'll take a look into Parafilm, looks quite interesting.

yes, the decals are cut plastic. I think he gets sheet remnants from his buddies sign shop

thanks!

all 3 of my 1:1 Datsuns were non-flared street versions. I had a buddy that had these flares and then I saw a black box flared 510 in the city[San Francisco]... 're-living 30yrs ago' :guilty::guilty::guilty:

may do a Box-Flared 510 even tho so many people nowadays clown those versions of flares...

color combo is beautiful... black with blue has always been my favorite combination.

my best guess for his numbers would be slot car decals... I was just lucky enough to score a shoebox full of old 1/64 slotcar decals from a former pro (yes actually got PAID for doing it) slot car racer in my area... alot of potentially great stuff I hadnt thought to look into before...
and I've not heard of parafilm before either... I see the fineline tape and have to wonder... is the tape holding it up and the film just a dropcloth or is it adhesive backed? if so that could work wonders in the R/C world...

I can ha$?

I need to make sure they are still good before I even think about making any deals. I've had several OLD R/C vinyl sheets dry out over the years, they become either not clear, completly transparent, or solid or not sticky any more. I'll test the corner of the sheets where the mfg logo and info is to make sure the ink is still good, that way the cool stuff wont be harmed if it is any good...

and I apparently had a weird thing happen where my computer never actually posted my post untill I got back on... I had actually replied (or tried too) sometime before Vballcoach answered lol.. hence the incorrect guess on the decals...

Lol, ok. But I'm interestged indeed, and I hadn't tought about those either. Will have to have a look in E-Bay.

Aaaaaaaalso, new post in Custom Diecast México because we don't went to let a week pass by without something in there. @AOS- you'll like the top of this.

the fineline tape is rustoleum 18mmx32m automotive masking tape I bought at Walmart on clearance for $3.

I run a strip on my table then use a steel rule and single edge razor to make my own straight edge tape. then I use parafilm to mask off the rest of the car. parafilm is non adhesive. You stretch it then it then it 'activates' and you use your body heat in your fingers to apply. love this stuff..

Taping these are just like taping a 1:1 car.

Funny, did all this automotive training back in high school and tech school learning everything about cars - mechanical/electrical/body/paint but decided not to pursue as career. At least I can work on my own cars and these customs....

oh yeah, I have used parafilm on polycarbonate rc bodies also...it seemed harder to work with since you have to mask inside out

What bothers me is why someone hasn't manufactured a set of "helping hands" made specifically for 1:64 cars. The standard ones we available on the market are generally too long, and we find we have to have the alligator clips pointing inward making an awkward grip on things.

never used those myself in all the years I've been doing customs. can't you just cut down the rod that the clips are connected to?

You can, but when there's already enough popularity, one may as well manufacture a new model with the changes in mind. You won't have to have a bunch of hobbyists sawing off their "helping hands" every time a new one is purchases. Saves time, and a small profit could be made with some marketing.

That's how I feel about it.

My first complete quick custom, detailing and everything. It's still far from what you guys do, but I'm happy about the end result:image.jpg

All four wheels touch the ground; I put the car on some wavy paper for the pic, and that's why that front wheel is "flying".

What are those wheels off of? I want them. Also, destroy the chasis so the wheels don't poke half a meter from the fenders.

I've been up to things.
Today I finished my first attempt at using custom made decals. Nothing special as a first attempt, just some stripes.

I also did some work on the interior.

I removed the passenger seat and added some tubing. It was all later painted black.

The decals are okay. I've learned a lot on this first attempt.
I've learned that I'd really like to have access to a laser printer, I've learned that these decals are so delicate they'll crumble and die if you look at them funny. I've also learned that I shouldn't use an aggressive clear coat on them or else everything becomes a mess.

Also apart from the decals my work on it is absolutely awful. Screw it all, the pictures reveal mistakes I didn't even know were there! And that's on top of the mistakes I did know about (the front is an interesting mix of failures). :P
Ah well, as a test mule it's fine.

The next one I rather like. I'm pretty sure I posted a teaser a long time ago of the spoiler I fabricated out of a beer can. Finally the finished result.

The spoiler looks good, but it's a flimsy little thing (I managed to break it off once during detailing!). This is definitely just a display piece. I'll probably paint the ends of the axles since they look out of place with the black wheels.

Also I've just realized that the body isn't sitting well on the base. I've not actually glued the two parts together, so that's another thing I need to fix.

So, I'm thinking about cutting off the front of a BMW 'M3 and the front of a Datsun 510 and making a M3 wagon. I just want to know if it's been done before, I want it to be original :)
