How do you know I'm big on this stuff now? When you make a enclosure similar to a sandblasting cabinet. I had an old 3-panel display boards, the ones kids used to decorate for their middle-school presentations, cut it in half, put one half behind the dremel that's fastened to the stand, and put the other half in front. What I did with the front piece was I cut out 2 holes for my hands to fit through and cut out a larger section above that and covered that up with a sheet of acetate (which I also had lying around) so I can see what I'm doing. This served to contain the metal dust from flying everywhere when grinding off the rivets and the acetate serves as eye protection as well.

Oh cool.
When I drill rivets I use a table.

Dremel makes a mini drill press you can put their tools in, and it's not particularly expensive. If you can come up with a suitable way of holding the cars upside down without damaging them (even a folded towel would probably work fine), I'd think it'd be perfect for doing the rivets.

oh for 🤬 sake. AOS, you're not "big", you're just a sissy. Just grab the car against your palm and drill away, it's absolutely possible with a Dremel, I've done it a few times, the paint guy just does it that way all the time. I sometimes do this:

Specially usefull with metal bases, and absolutely necesary if you are opening an old HW, which had smaller rivets with roundead headtops. ABSOLUTE.BASTARDS.

Sissy? Chill out, you airhead. I made the enclosure to make it easier to clean up afterwards. I'm working in the basement, not in the garage.

My dremel comes with an arm and base to let you do that, and that's exactly what I've been doing.

Anyway, now that I have a Hakosaku, I tried these wheels on. They make sense, but I'm not really feeling it too much. Perhaps if they were gray. Thoughts?

My rear. I work in a small wooden table that sits half a meter apart from my dinner table, on my dinning room. Sissy.

I like the red wheels on the Hako, but it looks just like R1600's. Not that that's a bag thing.

I'm also doing one (two in fact), one will keep the livery but will incorporate the correct PMCS decals and other corrections, and will have really wide racing meats. The other is a silver street car with the interior from a Kenmeri.

Pulled out the gorilla Glue and finalized 4 wheel swaps. Pics tomorrow... I also really need to get super glue; epoxy just takes too long for quantitative projects.

I drill by putting the car on a flat surface, hold with my hand, and drill away. If theres a lot of shavings, you're drilling too much. ;)

I rest my case.

Also, tell me how I misplaced metal base. I NEED it; spent $5 for the damn wheels.

That's probably how many cars I have apart and in a little bin.
I think that I like taking apart the cars as much as I like customising them.

Does anyone want to buy a lot of MC5 and OH5 wheels off me? I've gutted a lots and I need to get rid of them, especially the OH5s. Trades are also accepted.

Beginning to think iv'e bitten off more than i can chew, with regards to the RWB 993...
I can't decide on what variation to do for starts, and secondly: the bodykit requires me to chop into the front bumper of the car to make apertures (the front of the cast is real thick and i don't have a Dremel).
Yep!, it's going to be a tricky job, though i'm going to try anyway, but before i even attempt it, i'm going to try and fix the dodgy 'Jun Imai' 240Z... can't live with the huge rear wheel arches.
I'm all ready to start it, iv'e ended up getting some Milliput (silver/grey), some diamond coated needle files and some wet & dry sand-paper, and the car's already stripped. I don't know what i'm going to do about wheels, so i guess i'll face that problem when i come to it, i did however pick up some brass tubing for the RWB whilst picking up the other stuff.. problem is, i got the wrong size, i ended up getting 0.8mm stuff, so i ended up filing the HW axle down (just until it changed bright silver) and it now fits like a dream :D, i don't even have to crimp anything as it grips real tight but the axles can still be pulled from their brass sleeves.. so mega happy about that.

Even with the correct size you can pull out the axle. If you couldn't, then you couldn't have got it in there in the first place. I don't have a crimping tool, so I use dulled wire cutters. I pinch it a few times and sometimes I accidentally cut the axle off if I pinch it too hard.

That's the thing.. the tight fit is perfect for me (had to rotate the axles when when pushing them in), they're such a tight perfect fit, hence i don't even need to pinch them let alone crimp them. :D

I've given the wheels themselves, about 0.25mm of play so they rotate without rubbing on the sleeves.

I really like how Mattel doesn't use the same paints for their basic cars....the burgundy S2000 just doesn't come off. It's worse than that Ultra Hot '41 Woody. Think I'm going to need to grab car paint stripper as this poly stripper I've been using for the longest time isn't strong enough.

Hey friends some of your customs were featured in the weekly custom thread on Lamley. It has become one of our most popular features each week. If you don't want to be included in the post let me know and I will delete them.

I honestly think some of the work I have seen here tops most other things I have come across...

You should really be asking for permission before doing it, even if you give credit and source. This way the author of the photo knows that it's being shared.

AOS-

Ditto. Better to ask before, rather then after.

I'd really say that you should not ask per sé, but rather tell us! I'm honored to be featured in a blog outside of, well, here and the HWMC forum, which are my two die-cast communities, but if you never told me, I would never know.

Hey, any more people checking out my stuff aside from you and the guys at the Mexico club is a welcome thing!

Never say 'No' to free advertising - especially good publicity. It also raises awareness about GTPlanet. 👍

I told him to take my stuff down as it wasn't finished. Plus I kind of have an issue with people taking things without asking first. When they're finished he can have them.

I feel honored to have some of my stuff on Lamley Group, but I agree, I would have preferred him to ask first.

Nothing personal jtl46, but i agree with the rest, i think it is best to ask us first before you post them.;) Personally if i post any here, i don't care if you ask me if you can post them, but don't post them if you haven't asked me yet please. Thank you.:)

Anyway, im so glad you created this thread R1600Turbo! You really have me interested!;) With the help of my dad, i have started on a few vehicles as well as a slight restoration on one and on top of that i have a crazy idea i came up with last night that you will like:sly:, although it's still a work in progress but i will post them up soon when there done.:)

I haven't been working on anything since I moved into my new place. Waiting to get a proper desk or workbench before I unpack everything.
