How are the physics?

Yeah Darren fron insidesimracing told me personally that the physics are at least as good if not better than rally physics in GT5. That's good because the rally in GT5 is ok once you get used to it. They must have improved on them a lot from Dirt 2. I'll be picking my copy up tomorrow, I'll report back here. I have a racing cockpit and use a G25 on a PS3.

Well here is some of me in action. Monaco VS Ken Block.
The game looks fantastic.

As for the physics and handling, see for yourself...
The game's marketing says it has YouTube uploading... is there a reason why you're not using it? Is it not a feature of the game?

You can only do 30 second clips.

I honestly don't see why developers even waste their time doing YT uploading when it's limited like it is.

It was limited to thirty second clips to improve upload times. However, you can probably store replays some other way. After all, there's a guy on YouTube who has been uploading entire championships as one video.

Probably because to go to YouTube it has to go through Xbox Live and private XSLP servers, so maybe it's a bandwidth issue... disappointing, but better than nothing... and better than the dark, shaky cam (I imagine)... plus, it has to be better than Forza's abysmal system...

People who are uploading longer clips are probably using a capture card for recording, instead of the ingame recorder or cam. Much better, but a bit more expensive.

The physics seem very right. Once you set up the FFB and wheel settings, it should feel very nice. DO NOT set everything on max, it has a very weird, unrealistic, frustrating feel to it.

I would like to ask a question? Can this game be played with the controller and does anyone know if you can use the directional keys for steering. I don't have a wheel and I would like to get this game...thanks:sly:

yeah you can use the buttons.

its not exactly like dirt 2 i treated it like it was and fired a punto off into a tree on the first corner of the first stage writing it off.....

Think in my second or third race I wrapped my car round a tree with an impact of 90G...

Haven't managed that yet although i did just launch a kadett off a cliff treating it like it was the escort from dirt 2,no catching the back easily on this one.

Putting me in the mood to go to the jim clark rally this weekend 💡

Is that this weekend?
Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!
My dad has a press pass to the IRB 7s at Murrayfield so there's no-one to take me.
I'm supposed to be going to the 7s on Sunday though.
Fancy driving me on the Sunday?

I found that out the hard way. Even at full stop wheel snaps left and right (G27 on PC). Need to find the correct mix for my system - right now it isn't playable :/

Feels really good with G25. Definitely neen to set FF and wheel settings right or it's horrible. I'll find appropriate thread and post mine up- they work great.

I have weight to 60% and strength at 80% and im liking it a lot.

I find it very enjoyable, although a patch to add some of WRC's on-the-limit twitchiness would be great.

Hope that isn't too close to a GT5 vs Shift moment?

As an aside, the Cooper S 1275 is much more interesting than a 90s Group A car to drive. More peppy in its responses and not so much of a steam-roller ride of traction and slip angles.

Dirt 3 has very enjoyable physics. A big improvement on Dirt 2. The graphics and sounds surpass GT5 easily. The result: more enjoyment.

Despite the very flashy and ugly cover of the game case, Dirt 3 is a very nice rally game.

Yes, you can map functions to any button. The game plays very well with DS3.

Are there Tarmac races in Dirt 3? Or only loose gravel/dirt and snow?

Only "rally cars" ? I want it to be a little like GT5, where I have a good variety of cars.

GT5 is excellent for me, I don't think any other game can ever steal it from me, but I am itching to try Dirt3 on PC with my G25, mainly for the clutch feel. Will wait for the first patch, and more reviews. I held my ground and never touched NFS Shift 2. thank goodness.

There are tarmac stages in Michigan and Kenya. Most are composite tarmac/gravel stages. It has been suggested the roads of Rallye Monte Carlo will be made available as DLC, which means there will be all-tarmac rallies in the game eventually.

Most of the cars in the game are cars that have been rallied at some point. There are dozens of them, but don't go expecting to be able to take a Skyline out.

I traded in Shift2 and F1 2010 (PS3) for some $$ at gamestop to get Dirt3. F1 2010 was ok, but I don't see myself playing much more of it. Shift2 had it's good points but I couldn't get the G25 dialed in after days of trying on the PS3. The physics were weird, floaty, and sluggish no matter what I did..

Dirt3 on the other hand was easy to get the G25 wheel dialed in with, the physics are fun, the AI is good, and FF is pretty good too. You should definitely pick it up, well worth it and you won't be sorry. All I've done so far is rally, rallycross, and the other races (no drift or gynkhana) -although I have unlocked some of those events. Even the Buggies and Land Rush Trucks are fun.

Can someone tell me how to change the driving view in dirt3. I got the game today and damn I can't figure that part out. I drive like I am in the cars. In GT 5 all I do is punch the select button and change the views.. help???
