How do you keep Gran Turismo 6 fun?

I come for the racing, I stay for the people.

Online keeps it fresh for me, the same people join everday, and there's always something interesting to tell or listen to. I don't do much circuit racing, drag racing is my flavor. But a smart host that keeps the room well maintained provides hours of friendly competition and great laughs. 👍

Nascar lobbies are what I call "Easy Fun" they're barely organised but you can have very tense situations and hilarious/fun & exillerating times!

I'm not at all a dirty driver, but I do like doing dirty Nascar every month or two.

Can't say that I have really found anything fun to do in GT6 for the last year or so. If only they had proper leaderboards then it would be simple to find something to do that I enjoy but as is it just isn't there. Not a single race in career mode that interests me very much and the couple that did I ran to death in the first 3 months after release, all my racing friends quit playing long ago so nothing much there now.

The course maker may make it fun again, for a while anyway. Hopefully they will add leaderboards to GT7 else I will just need to find a different game to take the place of GT.

Looking forward to project cars now.

How do real drivers experience fun? By simply driving of course! Stop focusing on completing a game & go drive some cars just for the fun of it instead. Experiment with different times of day & weather settings in Free Run mode, save some replays & watch them back to see how awesome your driving is!

:D

Exactly. I love driving whether it's virtual or for real. I get a kick out of boredom posts. Been driving in GT6 since day 1 and am still finding new rides to spend some quality time with. I don't even play online.

But yeah if i was a "gamer" then I could see how someone could get bored. Or if I wanted a more race-like experience than GT6.

I redo the endurance races whenever I get bored, or just go into an online lobby.

Offline, you can do as SuzukaStar and myself : pick a track, a tyre compound and hotlap every road car in the game (or more if you want).

Or, simply go online : you can look for organized racing series, or just wander until you find a bunch of guys you have fun with. Racing real people in nice clean lobbies is so much better than going against silly bobs.

Personally, I LOVE to take all of the HUD off and drive in cockpit view. I typically do not try to run a fast lap at all. I just cruise around. And sometimes, I like to be Mr Cool Guy and peel the tires out around a corner or pull off the track and enter the track like it is a road and smoke the tires.

Also, I like driving loose handling cars (mainly MR or RR).

How I keep GT6 fun and not monotonous...

1. Make it a mission to buy every car in the game (excluding the duplicates)
2. Being an active member of the online community and taking part in clubs.
3. Going on GTP for tunes, tricks, easter eggs, feedback, etc.
4. Trying to get 22k drift points at Tsukuba.
5. To make offline racing more exciting, I choose a stock car that is slower than most cars in a given race. I turn off all driving aids (even ABS) and rely solely on driver skill to win the race.

There are a lot of things and reasons that keep me on GT6.

The first reason is just the fact that I've been around the Gran Turismo Series since it came out. My dad got me into GT1 and games in general at a very young age. The only game I haven't played is GT4, but I've heard a lot of good reviews and personal responses for GT4.

Second is the online portion. There's a few different leagues and series I participate in all the time. One is Turtle Racing League ran by @Ph1sher, @Psycho Turtle, @Dolph Drago, and @MBOBB1969. They do an awesome job keeping everything under control and fun on a weekly basis. Between them and the other racers that participate in TRL, I find the league enjoyable and quite fun. 👍 Another little fun lobby I find enjoyable is RACE Funs Runs hosted by @nascarfan1400. I can't say how many times I've laughed or giggled in that particular lobby, but it's far too many. Along with that, he has been creating some interesting... Um.. Ideas that seem rather odd, but are quite hilarious. Those two I've mentioned and then some random lobbies just to mess around in pretty much make playing GT6 very fun.

Another reason how I keep GT6 fun is the offline portion. This is where I can just goof off and find some silly cars and run them on small tracks (I think I used a Red Bull Prototype on one of the kart tracks). Of course, I do some practice offline. That's a given.

Then there's the silly B-Spec mode. Now... How do you find B-Spec mode fun? Well, a couple ways actually. One is the more control over what you can make Bob do. For instant, you can make him literally drive into the grass just by holding the acceleration button. Another way is giving him a car that actually compares to the other cars very well and you have to really be a Crew Chief to get him to the finish line in first. It's really fun as I believe some of you should try it. :D

I goof off in GT6 too. Just yesterday, I bought a Pontiac Vibe (very underrated in GT6), made the suspension really high, added wheels that looked weird, and did jumps on courses like Cape Ring Periphery and Willow Springs for fun.

My advice to anyone about to give up on GT6 would be for them to buy a mid-range sports car, take it to the Nurburgring, set the track to rainy sunset or sunrise, turn off the HUD completely, change the view to drivers eye view, turn the audio up (it's really not bad from inside the car these days),

and just go for a proper drive.

Well apparently we have different notions of fun. Driving in the rain at sunset is not fun, not in a game nor in real life. Driving slow in a game is not fun either. Take that same car on a nice sunny day and try to get your best time on the ring then you have something a bit more interesting and fun. In real life a nice drive on a nice day on the ring could be fun if you haven't did it before.

It's only advice, of course people have different have notions of fun. But why not try and get a great time despite the rain? Or why not just forget about the clock for a second, immerse yourself in the game by utilising all of the simulation aspects GT provides, and just drive as fast and as well as possible?

I don't agree at all about driving in the rain in a video game not being fun, and if you think driving in the rain means driving slowly then you're not pushing yourself nearly hard enough.

As nice as it is to beat a personal best, personally I derive more pleasure from the gameplay experience than any numbers.

well i haven't got any "new rides" to buy , i already own every car except a few Red Bull cars and karts

Leave it on the shelf... where it belongs.
Don't reply with nonsense when a guy has a serious question. That is quite rude. 👎

I could not agree more with that! I forgot to mention doing it in the rain with real grip turned on!

Matter of opinions... guess it doesn't hurt to try anything once.

And to agree with a lot of others on here, online helps me out a lot. I have the opurtuninty to race in a league 5 days a week if I wanted too.

@kolio123 that's what I do to keep it fun. I don't play it. I've had it.... I'd much rather stare at it on the shelf and just imagine what kinda game it could've been. So much potential...

That's for another thread though...

Actual advice... alright.

Split screen when friends come over.

When they come over you can host a tournament; see who can set the fastest lap on a certain track.

My friends prefer a rally stage, so we host a tournament and see who sets the fastest stage time.

If you have a wheel, it will become even more competitive, however more open to excuses from the losers.

I often just find a car that looks interesting, for so to drive it around various tracks with hud off, weather on, and in the middle of the night if possible. For some reason, I just love driving in the dark, both in the game and in real life.

Other than that, reading about obscure cars and comparing and testing them against other strange cars is fun. Sometimes I decide that I'm going to find for example two 90s sedans made in europe at around the same price range, and test them both to see which I think feels best.

These days I spend most of my time doing arcade mode races with the X2014 Jr. With the AI set to 'professional, 15-25 lap races, Sports Hard tyres and the stock setup, you can create some good battles, yeah, good racing against the AI!

I've found that some circuits are better than others for this though. So there's a bit of trial and error to get the right mix, but the racing gets pretty intense once you've found that mix. The new addition, Mid-Field creates great racing with this car and setup, if you're not bored of the track yet.

I hate it IRL and in the game. I can't stand night driving. Highway is fine, but small roads not so much...

I can't see 🤬 to be honest. Only when my car drops two inches on one side and bounces back up, do I know that I've hit a massive pothole.

Well, it's not all that fun on small and poor quality roads. It doesn't have to be a highway for me to enjoy it though, as long as the road quality isn't terrible. Typically, road quality is decent anywhere with a speed limit of 70 km/h or more in norway (which is where I live), and I don't really drive for fun in areas with speed limits lower than that.

If you can get a 3 pedal steering wheel set and learn how to heel and toe downshift, you will be having the most amount of fun possible with your clothes on :) .
I wouldn't bet on everyone having their clothes on racing though! I was just going through to look at new joins of members to our club... and one person has on their GT6 profile "I usually play naked".

I guess that's one way of keeping it interesting. :scared: :boggled:   :odd:
(Though hey, understandable in the heat of summer, right?)

I'm not going to say who it was, because I'd rather everyone in the club who sees this just wonders if the person with this on their profile is currently in the race... and maybe that will have a deleterious effect on their performance and my finishing results will become better because of that.:mischievous:;)

And, I guess everyone knows now that I keep things interesting by being silly... :odd: :guilty: :sly:

Whenever I watched top gear I would go and try the cars they reviewed in the game or the nearest most similar car I could find. Was always suprising just how many cars were in the game and it always kept me playing the game.

Well I took the term proper drive to mean something along the lines of cruise rather than pushing it to go fast.

I have always hated driving in the rain, especially at night or in fog or even near dusk or dawn.

I keep GT6 fun by doing the same things as I did in GT5. I used to fool around with the course maker and see what kinds of crazy/cool tracks I could come up with, and test-drive the tarmac out of them. If it wasn't fooling around with the course maker, it was creating my own mini-enduros in Arcade Mode with tire wear and fuel consumption toggled. It makes for some interesting events, and sometimes the AI comes back and steals your checkered flag!

...wait a minute; what did I just say?

what did I just say?

That the AI in the game beat you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In GT5 I would mod cars. Make some really fun drift cars, replicated some dragsters, etc.

GT6, I can't really do that as now I need a different type of PS3.

Doesn't really matter as I can always hop back onto GT5.

As it was said, I love watching car reviews and then driving the car and it always gets me how all these cars handle differently in GT6.

I've been making themed in-game leaderboards at some tracks, usually pretty obvious stuff like LMPs at Sarthe, Italian sports cars at Monza, etc. I'm currently working on the four sectors in the La Sierra event, using cars that match the colors of the sector balloons of course.

Then there's always staging spectacular crashes and going through the replay like it's the Zapruder film. I'll watch the replay camera, in-car, and other cars' POV. The funniest is usually the rear-view of the car just ahead of the crash.
