How I USED to make 5,000,000 credits/hour through Custom Races... using a Fiat. But not anymore.

POST-1.41 PATCH EDIT: Yeah, it's not exactly what it used to be. But hey, what can you do?

You know exactly what you're here for... it's money-makin' time. 😎

Disclaimer - this "exploit" is entirely reliant on a few select engine swaps, so if you're missing those, you're pretty much out of luck. Here are a few of the cars that are viable for this trick:

  • Abarth 595 with K20 swap
  • Willys Jeep with Hellcat swap
  • Volkswagen 1200 or SambaBus with M64/03 swap

The reason these vehicles are suitable is because the game bases the payout of Custom Races on your vehicle's stock PP, which flies completely out of the window once engine swaps get involved. You may have noticed that when applying the Random grid option, the game fills the grid with cars of a similar level to a stock version of the car you're driving, even if you've upgraded it to its utmost limits - the same system applies to the payouts as well.

As for your car's tune, you'll need a setup that is both fast on straights, and stable in corners. This trick is mainly focused on oval tracks, such as Route X, Daytona and Northern Isle (Daytona provides the best results), so make sure your tune is capable of taking on banked turns. For reference, here is the tune I use for my Abarth:

1681551889162.jpeg

1681551898370.jpeg

Once you've got your car swapped and kitted out, you're gonna need to get out your Tomahawk X (if you've got one; if you don't, just grab one for a million - you'll be making it back soon enough anyway), which naturally provides the highest payout, being the highest-PP opponent possible. You'll need to apply the following tune to it:

1681551909841.jpeg

1681551918766.jpeg

This tune utterly destroys the Tomahawk's speed and handling potential, thus rendering it an ineffective opponent. Next, go to Daytona Tri-Oval, and begin creating a Custom Race.

In the settings screen, the only settings you'll need to adjust are those that affect your money-making potential. These are as follows:

Race Type - Lap
No. of Laps - 25 or lower (as that is where diminishing returns start to kick in)
No. of Cars - 20
Starting Grid - 20
Start Type - Rolling Start (gets you up to speed quicker)
Boost - Off
Nitrous Usage Time Multiplier - 10.0x
Rival Difficulty - Professional Level

Next, go to your grid settings, and fill the grid with your newly neutered Tomahawks. Once all this is done, you're pretty much ready to race!
Simply make sure you avoid hitting any opponents (wallriding is fine) and you should be good to go. With each lap averaging around 44-45 seconds in the Abarth, and each lap awarding 39,700 credits (59,550 with the clean race bonus) I managed to make a whopping 4.8 million credits per hour.*

An utterly unprecedented result for sure. I look forward to seeing how some of you may optimise this grind even further, and perhaps even write a script for it!

*More like 1.4 million per hour, as of 1.41

Is it possible to do this similarly to the old N100 @ Tokyo Expressway exploit in GTSport where you rubber band the throttle down and leave it to its own devices? So you could, for example, get on with something else around the house and just restart the race every once in a while?
If this exists it'll be a busy time for my PS5

If such a thing is possible, this might be one of the greatest revelations in GT7 grinding history. Although the rolling starts appear to be bugged, with one Tomahawk somehow crashing and forcing everyone behind it, including my car, to start reversing before the race has even begun.

Perhaps the standing start might help that?

I've been using the Red Bull X20th Anniversary ratio-limited to about 40mph since I don't currently have anything faster, and they do the same, but they just go 15mph, as opposed to reversing.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any of those engine swaps. The closest I had was the Delorean swap, but using it vs. Tomahawks only got me about 200k per hour. I then tried a non-engine swapped VW 1200. I could manage about 400k per hour with that. Still not worth it, unfortunately. Guess this is off the table for me unless I get those engine swaps.

Btw I used a slightly different tune - I set up the transmissions in the Tomahawks to have a max speed in 6th gear of 64 kph, haha. The cheater AI was still somehow managing to get them over 100mph, though. Not enough to threaten the Bug I was driving but clearly much faster than it should have been possible to drive.

Thanks for the tip!

I tried this with a beetle on Daytona Tri Oval and a slight fine tune of the set up I already had dialed in.

Apart from gearing the Tomahawk to a lower top speed than the bug I left the chassis as when i last drove it. On RS tyres it ended up at roughly PP 1280. I figured it to be in my favour if the ”competition” behaved as predictable and safe as possible.

Needless to say, It worked perfectly. On a full throttle course…

I collected Cr. 197k and change after 25 laps.
Discovering a problem with the rear suspension bottoming out (presumably) on the steep 1:st banking I had to make do without the Clean Race Bonus.

I expect this trick will have the same effect on any course that allows 100% full throttle. On tracks requiring braking and acceleration the Tomahawks will have advantage of it’s outerworldly performance. Unless they are set up to be undrivable - and thus behave unpredictably.

On a personal note: there is precious little fun to be found here. Well, apart from the joy of experiencing a ”slightly” overpowered beetle or Fiat.

I belive this setup is best used to optimize daily workout, making the most out of as few laps as possible.
11 laps on Tri Oval with the beetle would give Cr. 87.303 plus a ticket for the daily roulettes.
2 laps of Route X: Cr. 82.909.
For about 10 min worth of driving that’s decent money, I guess.

Since securing CRB is a goal here it’s probably best to ett and avoid lapping. Set the difference in top speeds to just allow taking a comfortable lead.

As grinds LeMans and Sardegna are still more rewarding, even from a perspective of experiencing the drive, while requiring a bit more effort.

I’ll still probably revisit, when there is only short time available to play. So big Thanks again for the tip.

By no means as efficient but an amusing point, if you maximise the fuel consumption rate and then run on the Nurburgring, the Tomahawk runs out of fuel within a minute or 2, limiting it to under 80kmh.

Even a stock Abarth can comfortably beat them at that point, but sadly the payout is poor in terms of cr/minute.

Tomahawk has a push to pass (P2P) function that will allow higher speeds temporarily. When i tried the grind setup on Route X it took them 2,5 laps before they depleted their P2P, allowing me to pass.

That is a bit strange though. I was under the impression the P2P was aerodynamical. If so the P2P should not have effect when top speed is limited by the gearing. They would be running on the revlimiter already, wouldnt they?
But anyway…

For the Tomahawk X, it's both. Aero is reduced, but also engine power is increased. Doesn't explain how they can exceed the transmission's limits.

Do you guys think this would be at all effective with

Mazda
  • 13B-REW-RX-7 (Mazda RX-7 FD)
    • Mazda Eunos Roadster NA '89
    • Suzuki Cappuccino '91
Suzuki
  • H25A-Escudo (Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Special)
    • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final '15 (!!)
Perhaps the Cappuccino '91 ?

The payouts would be lower for all three of them. Cappuccino still wouldn't be too bad, but the MX-5 and Evo's payouts would be atrocious.

Thanks for the reply. It's kinda frustrating because I'd personally rather swap it into the Roadster but I also like the idea of giving this a try. My normal credit acquisition method has grown a bit stale (that said this would get stale fast too so I guess it's no big deal).

@hyperspeed980

Thank you so much for this trick. I recently got the Ferrari Invite and wanted to buy the 3 cars before the time runs out but the thought of grinding all those credits was fairly unpleasant and 2 days later or so I find this thread :)

Using the motion steering and analog up for throttle, I am able to drive automatically by placing one side of the controller on some pages and/or other objects to elevate it and thus the car steers slightly to the right due to the motion steering and have full throttle going by using a rubberband on the right joystick.

This is very neat, it's doing a clean race on daytona 25 laps on the Jeep Willys in ~28 Minutes for ~297k credits. So about 600k an hour, and all I have to do is start the race, collect the credits and start the next race^^.

It takes about 30 minutes with my swapped Samba Bus, also 298k credits.

I just rubberband my R2 trigger with the controller itself, no steering inputs needed right from the start, the bus hugs the wall and mostly stays there for the whole 30 minutes.

I'm sharing my setup of it later on when I get home.

It's a pretty okay-ish grind considering the fact that I'm not even playing the game during those 30 minutes, since that would be boring as hell.

I can confirm that this is possible on the Daytona Tri-oval track.

I'm using a swapped Samba Bus with the following specs, the best thing about it is that I don't even have to do any steering input right from the start and the clean racing bonus is secured 9 times out of 10(sometimes a Tomahawk gets in the way and the Bus crashes on it, losing the bonus).

The race takes about 30 minutes, completely hands-off from start to finish.

You can make this be over an hour but as already pointed out by the OP, diminishing returns kicks in at 26 laps so the ideal amount of laps per race is 25.

Checking out the prices on other tracks, it seems to me that diminishing returns aren't linked to the amount of laps, but rather distance driven, though that is my assumption, I am not sure about it. On daytona it even seems to kick in before the 25th lap, but on shorter race tracks the diminishing return kicks in perhaps after the 50th lap, while on special route x it kicks in way before the 25th lap.

If I can rubberband around Route X like this, I'll just set it up for 200 laps before I leave for work.
Unfortunately the diminishing returns are so severe at that point that you are just wasting electricity pretty much^^

You get:

For 200 Laps: 283,460

For 100 Laps :280,995

For 50 Laps: 276,064

For 25 Laps: 266,204

For 15 Laps: 253,056

For 10 Laps: 236,622

For 5 Laps: 187,319

Its funny, going from 199 laps to 200 laps increases your reward by less than 20 credits, while a lap without diminishing returns gives you ~41,454.5

For Special Route X it seems that diminishing returns kick in with the 4th round, so perhaps it is that after having driven 100km the diminishig returns kick in?

Considering 25 laps of Daytona is exactly 100km and that's when the diminishing returns kick in, you might just be onto something.

Not even worth the wear and tear on my PS4. So much for my grinding farm.

To be fair though, driving 200 laps of Route X would take over an entire day, so the car would still be driving when you get back from work I assume, but yes there is no good solution as far as I am aware for starting a race and then coming back 8 hours later or so to collect an appropriately big reward.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this kind of money grind literally saved the game for me.

Now, if I want some quick bucks I just fire up my saved Daytona oval grind race with my Samba Bus, turn on automatic transmission and rubberband the R2 on the controller, in one hour I make like 600k.

Yeah it's not a good nor effective money grind, but the fact that this is almost completely hands-off means that I can do something more productive or fun with my time in this game than grinding Sardegna, Le Mans or Tokyo once again for the 1346432th time which just kills me with boredom. Like playing the 550pp or 600pp lobbies which is what I enjoy the most.

And my Samba Bus is pushing 8000km driven now, the poor little thing was like my least driven swapped car and now it's my most driven one in the entire game 🤣
