How is Assetto Corsa to play?

I am assuming you guys aren't using a clutch but are using auto clutch and if so I think they don't have the auto clutch system for the F40 setup well yet. If you dump the clutch with a 3 pedal set you get the same result. You really have to "slip" the clutch in the F40 to make the car launch or lite the tires from a stand still. Or if your using a clutch pedal you need more practice. Maybe try adjusting the sliders in the options to adjust the dead zone and release point. I have my clutch set at 70% for release and 3% dead zone.

@fatkrakr You are correct. I am stuck with a crappy DFGT and use the paddle shifters. I actually just came from the Fanatec website where I was drooling over the v3 pedals. If I were to purchase the pedals, I would also need to get myself a new wheel, which would probably have to be the Thrustmaster T300RS. Man, I just spent $2700 on a new laptop and would be looking at $700+ for the wheel and pedals. What a hobby, eh? :D

Those V3 pedals will work with the DFGT as I am sure you know until you save for a new wheel. ;) But your right it can get pretty expensive pretty quick if you let it.

Have you looked into any kind of buttkickers and simvibe yet? After pedals and before a new wheel is where I would be looking into that. The pedals will add consistency and with that will come speed. A new wheel is really just gonna add to the immersion of sim racing. Simvibe IMO adds a lot more immersion to sim racing than a more powerful wheel does. My recent wheel history is the DF pro, G27 and CSW all shortly after their release dates and Simvibe was a better upgrade than any of them.

Fanatec Clubsport v3 pedals work with the DFGT?! I had no idea! I thought it used a different type of connector than the one on my DFGT (the multi-pin connector - looks like a VGA connector, sort of)...Damn...This is wonderful news.

I have no idea what Simvibe is. I just did a quick Google search and I'm a little confused.

Fanatec Clubsport pedals plug in to the PC via USB, and can be used stand-alone. Simply connect your DFGT without pedals to a PC USB port, and the Clubsport pedals to another USB port on the PC, install drivers for both Logitech and Fanatec, and in game map the pedal axes and the wheel axis/buttons manually.

Note that the Fanatec CSR-Elite pedals can also work via USB.

Oh wow...I had no idea! I could have sworn that I saw some adapter for sale on the Fanatec website for the G27/G25, so I figured that the pedals had to be connected to the wheel. I'm glad I brought it up. I'm going to have to do some investigating and see what people think about them. I'm sure they're great. No doubt they will be 10,000 times better than what I have now. DFGT pedals are terrible. I just wonder if there are any complaints about the pedals and if any of those complaints would be something I need to worry about.

Thank you for making things clear about those Clubsport v3 pedals!

Been watching this thread and I have a few remarks. First, I started with GT1 and followed to GT6. Someone made a remark in this thread that the GT series is an encyclopedia of cars. That is 100 percent true, and the original statement came straight for Kaz in a interview about 10 years ago. The history of cars is what Kaz truly loves. Of course he is a driver, but he is really into historical stuff.

So that is another reason why the GT series has no real damage model. The man could not stand to see his creations wrecked. Bottom line, the GT series has been passed by any number of new sims/sim cades.
The sound of GT is frankly dreadful. It's almost comical to me. The implementation of car setup/adjustment is not detailed enough to be taken seriously. And the physics model is plagued with bugs and a backward (front to back dynamics are swapped) setup requirement. The lack of depth with suspension adjustment, aero dynamics, lack of tire pressure, brake temperatures, engine cooling and restrictor plate control. Gran Turismo is not even close to being on par with these new offerings.

The ONLY place GT/PD outshines the nubs is quality control, and smoothness of the update process and bug fixing. You would expect at least that when a manufacturer has a 12 year head start on quality control. GT by FAR has the best on-line racing interface and control for room owners. The have some excellent tracks. Although the track background and detail are really bad. They are close to being one dimensional. Take a look at the trees and people.

The GT franchise worst mistake by far is dreaming way to big for their technical staff to keep up with. They are also guilty of bait and switch because they say features will be in their product, by it turns out you have to wait for YEARS for them.
They are also guilty of stuffing too much demand on the PS3 which clearly can not handle the load.
They promised monthly track/car DLC, and have only delivered the bargain basement GT Vision car with first generation interiors and no ability to adjust car dynamics. So GT7 better be the bomb. If not it will be the last.

That said, I just purchased Assetto Corsa. I was looking forward to a weekend of getting into the setup and checking out the physics model. After installing the software, the game will not start. That would not happen with GT. So I go the Assetto Corsa support/form and find that even creating a thread is a challenge. I can only hope to get some help from them because I am not sure if they will see my log files. I am starting to wish I had waited another six months to buy AC and give them time to work out the bugs. I own PCars as well. I really enjoy it when using my wheel. But they have major bugs too. So hurry up and wait is the bottom line. Assetto Corsa is the first PC based game I've ever purchased that failed to start after it was installed. That is epic fail in my book. A joke.

Might be related to your setup, so don't be so fast to blame Kunos for that.

I am just frustrated. I accept that my system may be the issue. My problem is the response I get from Assetto Corsa support. I just need help because I get not error message, and log file does not say much. Thank you for responding mister dog.

How much PC experience do you have? Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed? Do other steam games all work fine? Have you run a Steam local file cache integrity check for your AC install?

I've never had issues with AC since day one of the early access (well even with the tech demo) so I assume the problem will be more generic...

I have done the following:
The game doesn't start at all when launched
  • Make sure the pre-requisite libraries have installed properly, you can find them by right-clicking on Assetto Corsa in Steam then "Local Files" -> "Browse Local Files...". Navigate to the "_commonredist" folder and run the setup for all the included redistributables. Pay attention to any error messages you might get and make sure no antivirus or such software blocks their installation. These are normally installed automatically on first run, but occasionally they will output errors which are not reported to you by Steam;
  • Use Steam's cache integrity check. Open your Steam games library, right click on Assetto Corsa and select "Properties". Click "local files" and then "verify integrity of Game cache";
  • Check your installed Windows updates. If you have the KB2670838 update, please uninstall it and try if the game starts properly.
I ran/checked everything except: "Local Files" -> "Browse Local Files...". Navigate to the "_commonredist" folder and run the setup for all the included redistributables.

There was nothing under "_commonredist" folder to run. There were no setup programs there.
So I reinstall the entire game, and still there are no setup exe's in that folder.👎:grumpy:

I did find vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe in folders "2010, 2012 and 2013 under the "_commonredist" > "vcredist" folders. I ran those (2) programs in each on of the folders. It was Visual C++ repair.💡

I am able to run Project Cars and Titan Fall out of my Steam with no problems. So I am stuck waiting for help from Assetto Corsa support. I accept this could be my rigs problem. And I thank all of you for your help.
Because I really need help.

Skazz, thank you for your help.

I have a fair amount of PC experience. The bulk of my IT experience is working with HPUX, LINUX and Sun Microsystems servers that feature Windows Server and Windows 7 clients. I also administer Sybase and MSSQL databases.
Obviously, none of that is helping me get this game running.

I ran troubleshooting steps outlined in the Assetto Corsa FAQ's including shutting down my Norton for an hour. I am sure it's something simple. But what?:banghead:

Yeah i went back to the AC forum and that banner that appears below saying 'don't post you have the same issue' isn't too inspiring.. I guess posting log files won't solve everything.

Google is your friend though, the solution must be written down somewhere on the internetz :), start here for example:

Thank you my friend. I will look. And I did manage to post my problem to Assetto Corsa support.

Thank you for helping GT, but I'm not quite sure what you ask me to do. "troubleshoot compatibility".
Right click on Assetto Corsa and look for troubleshoot compatibility,if there is no troubleshoot compatibility click on open file location then again right click and look for troubleshoot compatibility

Firts try with recommended settings and click on test program.

OK, I see. Got it. Thank you GT. I will try it and I will report my end result here.

I have solution from Assetto Corsa support member. He ask that I create a new user in Windows 10.

That fixed Assetto and RaceRoom Race Experience too. I guess I'll set up my rig now and get to racing.:D
So now I can play Assetto, PCars and RaceRoom. And I can use my G27 too.
Thank you all very much for helping.👍 If ever I can help any of you, you can count on it.

Good to hear you can now enjoy AC post 1.3. So basically it is Windows 10 that is generating the problem, you have to create another windows user?

You got to sign away your soul first to Microsoft ;)
Update of my Windows 10 problem with Assetto Corsa. You can remove compatibility settings for the AssettoCorsa.exe. Doing this let Assetto Corsa run in Windows 10 without having to create a new user.
This is good news.

In case anyone isn't sure of how to do this, I happened to have a popup while exiting the game last night and it led to this:

  • Ensure Steam and [the game] is closed (completely exit steam)
  • Go to the steam folder, this is usually located in C:/Program Files/Steam
  • Right click on the steam.exe file select properties from the menu
  • Go to the compatibility tab
  • Make sure everything is unchecked, if anything is checked uncheck it and click apply (don’t close the dialog yet)
  • Click “change settings for all users”
  • On the new dialog make sure everything is unchecked, if anything is checked uncheck it and click apply, then click ok to close the dialog
  • Click ok to close the steam.exe properties dialog
  • Go to [the game] installation folder (usually under your steam folder: steamapps\common\[the game].exe file (click once)
  • Right click on the [the game].exe file select properties from the menu
  • Go to the compatibility tab
  • Make sure everything is unchecked, if anything is checked uncheck it and click apply (don’t close the dialog yet)
