How NASCAR Will Fare?

I think the argument that the inclusion of nascar takes too much development time is invalid. I’ll bet that development time of the nascars shown at E3 is miniscule compared to the dev-time of WRC, DTM, LMP, Super GT, etc.

-There are only 4 nascar manufactures (ford chevy dodge toyota) all of which have minor differences, mainly interior and pain schemes.
–Car settings shouldn't take long to dev once you create the manufacture’s specific template.
-The most dev time probably comes from modeling nascar tracks, two of which were in gt4 so most of the track data has already been collected. Track modeling is done by a completely different team anyway.
-The tracks listed so far (Indy, Daytona, Infineon, Laguna Seca) are not nascar specific as they are also used by other forms of motorsport.

I'd argue that the inclusion of WRC would take up much more dev-time because of the variety of cars, variations and tracks that must be created for the sport, not to mention dirt effects, off road handling vs on road.

On a side note, I seriously doubt that PD will include official races for nascar, wrc, or even super gt. If they do, then it's not like you will have a complete season as not every track will be represented etc. I don’t understand why so many people are hating on nascar. I say the more the cars/tracks the merrier.

Am I a nascar fan? No, I do not follow the sport.
Do I think nascar is hated on unfairly by gtplanet? Absolutely.
Am I happy PD included it? Yes, I can compare nascar to other cars and try something new.
Will I get flamed for giving my opinions? Probably…

I'mwith seanchump. Definitely the more cars/tracks the better.

Am i a Nascar fan? No.
Would i race the series in GT5? Yes.

I love cars and motorsport. End of. Anything they want to include i'm more than happy to take full advantage of. Why would anyone be AGAINST the inclusion of anything?

My opinion is already known here. What I'd love to see are some honest confessions of NASCAR impressions when GT5 finally lands in our sweaty little/big hands.

"Ehh... this isn't so bad. Actually, it's kinda fun..."

The Super GT would have a greater chance at winning. They've done tests like this before & lap times generally show the aerodynamics, suspension, & acceleration of a GT500 car being able to out corner GT1's. The fact that Super GT cars are also just silhouettes like DTMs, helps a lot.

Well, I guess that also depends on the track? Like tracks that have a lot of long straights where the 600 hp will come in handy. Btw, do you have the laptimes of these two race cars on other tracks? 👍

The only site that I know is fastestlaptimes but it is mostly production cars.

Also, to this "Redneck" term being thrown around... Rednecks built the greatest country in the world, and continue to keep it the greatest country in the world. And to anyone that has a white collar on and is degrading people, they should be thankful, not acting like they are better... because you certainly are not.

I've been born and raised in America and I could not disagree more with that statement.

for watching nascar isn't really my thing, but i will play it in gt5 online. and yes it takes much skill and strategy.
also i would have liked to see indycar in gt5 but we will see how things are when the game finally comes out:) can't wait for it.

oh for all the people sayiong that it is a "walk in the park"to race on an oval... then go to america and try it! then you will know that's diffrent with the walls out there and the speed.

i have tried it and it is intense.

Why include Super GT cars but no full Super GT Championship? Why include DTM cars and no full DTM Championship? The same thing could be said for every car from a real life racing series in GT. I'm glad Polyphony Digital have given us so many racing cars including the CoT because I can get a small taste of what the cars are really like.

You could say that about any new feature Polyphony Digital have added to GT5.

Point taken... as I am sure those championships you mentioned are just as big to their native countries. I love NASCAR and I want it be well represented. Unfortunately, I don't believe that will be case. Picture driving a NASCAR stock around the Seattle Circuit in a short series to win Jeff Gordon's #24 Dupont. (I hope it sells high!) I'm sure the rally racing fans feel the same way about GT's representation of that sport. I love GT but I love racing games with focus even more, i.e., Richard Burns Rally, NASCAR Racing 2003, and GTR 2.

True again about any new feature PD adds to GT5; however, after the four GT games I played (No PS3, so no GT5 Prologue) with basically the same problems, IMO, NASCAR and the WRC are low priorities. In fact, my top priority is damage modeling and A.I. As cool as photo mode is for GT4, I would trade it without a second thought for significant A.I. improvement and some attempt at damage modeling.

This.

I mean, we've had official motorsports included before - we've had WRC, JGTC, LeMans, DTM, and F1, although the cars for F1 were fictional.

I have the feeling that NASCAR and WRC will be well supported, but in that Gran Turismo way. Not all of the cars, not all of the tracks, and one or two of their own championships in GT Mode... just like JGTC or DTM in GT4.

At least, I hope it will be like that. I hope we don't get full-on WRC and NASCAR championships... I like the way GT4 structured its championships 👍

IMO if we have WRC, we should have as much as possible. Maybe use the cars for some rally cross races? This also is a nice and dirty sport.

As for nascar - I think that it should be quite easy to make good support for that series, because the cars race at some nice race tracks, which can also be used for other GT races. with rallying, it is not that easy. As far as the tarmac stages can be run as hill climb or something like that, the gravel/mud/snow stages are useful only for true rally machines or tuned road cars (not even all of them, but hey - maybe we will have a possibility to tune the cars to suit rally or race tracks?).

Pitting a Super GT car against a GT1 car would be the best showdown in my opinion.

I know that the GT1 GTR has around 600 hp and 600+ torque. The weight of the car is around 2600?

The Super GT's GTR has around 500 hp and 300+ torque. However, it is 200lbs lighter than the GT1 and also has better aerodynamics.

Showdown of the century! 👍

Most of the GT500 cars produce way more than 500 hp if u were to take off their restrictors. So I'm sure it can keep up with GT1 class cars and have a good chance of beating them.

Care to elaborate?

Hmm...where to start. Education system has been ruined by the government. We elect corrupt politicians and then get upset that they lied to us. Our society is getting dumber by the day. Which is part of the culture unfortunately. Mediocrity is ok to a lot of people. And our auto companies have some of the worst business practices I've ever seen. Not to mention the UAW hasn't helped the situation. And I'm going to drop it at that because if I keep going this will be one big ass wall of text. But you get the idea.

We just need custom event creator so anyone can create events as much as they like.

From here situation in USA seems as Demon Drone said. I am glad you elected obama. Sadly he is only one guy and there seems to be a lot of "wrong" people in important positions. Well the USA has been "taking damage" for a long time and it is sure that fixing won't be painless.

Power does sometimes, but like the gentlemen's agreement, a lot of teams aren't actually producing the power they claim. A lot of the GT500 cars are actually around 550Hp.

Unfortunately, I can not find any lap times. There is an article out there that I believe pitted 1 or 2 Super GTs against a 550 Prodrive & a MC12 with the general outcome being the Super GTs running 2-4 seconds faster than the Ferrari & just slightly above the MC12 which put up a better fight.

Lap times, though, will be difficult because the 2 series don't appear to run on any of the same circuits. :indiff:

Rednecks didn't make the country what it is, they just happen to live in the same country :P

BTW I totally agree with you, and I also like the GT4 style championships. I think a lot of people fear that nascar will be supported with too much emphasis on the series.

To their point, people will be upset (me included) if nascar (or any series) is included in too many Arcade races.

Hypothetical: Let's say you pick a BMW M3 GTR, select the Ring, and 16 opponents are randomly generated. I'd be pissed if Jeff Gordon's Dupont was included in this race. (I'd also be upset if the Escudo was included!) I always hated driving a fully tuned supra rz against a field of LMPs.

I would not mind if PD includes nascar in the All Stars Race because this race is fantasy/fictional. I only hope this “mix and match” style that GT is famous for is limited, especially in Simulation mode!

As for Arcade mode there should be a custom event creator (credit Raitziger) or at least an option to select/omit a series of racers, whether your preference is JGTC, DTM, WRC, NASCAR or a combo these, etc...

This link is from 2006. No 550 though.

I think it will do ok,after catching the first half hour of days of thunder on E4,I was thinking about roaring around the track using the cockpit view :)
So long as it feels fast.and the cars sound raw,and tyre management seems accurate i'll be happy

I think it will do alright, although i'm not a NASCAR fan! That will not stop me from driving the cars in GT5! Hope they have some Road Courses to run, besides the Ovals!

If PD ever adds Rolex prototypes, I guess it would be a better match up to pit them against other circuit racing cars. 👍.

Although, I still believe the stock cars would not disappoint in any fashion at all.

Lol, do you think we could do weight reduction on the COT's? reduce to 2500/2000 pounds, get some wider tires on there, they would HAUL.

Watching the COT's go around Infineon today was pretty fun to watch. I only imagine how much fun it is too drive. If you want to "haul" there are plenty of cars in the game that do so, but not many that are 3500lbs. and I also wonder if we will get ABS and TCS on them?

I remember someone saying a license test should be running the COT around the Ring in a set time but I cant remember the time they said. I bring this up because the CTS-V ran around the ring in 7min 59sec on stock tires (world record for 4 door sedan, faster than M5, go USA auto makers)

Did I mention NASCAR i on a road course this weekend? And a non"road course specialist" was smoking the field when I turned off qualifying (Brian Vickers by .2sec over Kyle Bush at the time)

Haha. I am a NASCAR fan, and I love the cars just the way they are. It was mostly a joke about the weight reduction thing. Although it would be pretty cool.

Kinda disappointed thought that it's all just 1 car, really, they should have separate Chargers, Monte Carlos, Fusions and Camry's.

Hello everybody, long time browser of this site but finally made a account to join in the discussion. I can across this interview which may have been posted before but i found it really interesting to see this response to the E3 trailer

(Expectedly, Yamauchi did not speak too much about Gran Turismo 5. Asked about the message players were meant to take from the short E3 trailer, he said "WRC is an extremely European motor sport. NASCAR is an extremely American motor sport. We showed those two. That's it. (laughs).")

I like the part we showed those two which makes me wonder what other licenses they may have up their sleeve, perhaps wtcc or V8 supercars or dare i speculate F1, sorry this is a little off topic but didn't want to start a new thread for my first post.

Hope they have some Road Courses to run, besides the Ovals!
I doubt Polyphony Digital will restrict the CoT to just circuits ran in NASCAR. I'm pretty damn sure we will be allowed to drive them on any circuit, just like every other race car featured in Gran Turismo. ;)

There were Camry's featured in the trailer shown at E3. It is a little disappointing that we don't seem to have Ford or Dodge though.

Don't forget about the Auto Union Streamline in GT4, you were restricted to only the Neurburgring.
