hey guys, i'm doing the 1000 miles! series of races and just now starting to use b-spec a lot. just curious; how often does everyone else use it?

For some people, it is an additional aspect of the game that they enjoy developing. For others, it is a 'money earning' device that they can leave running whilst they do something else. For others, it is a way of avoiding having to do themslves some races that they consider tedious.

It's all a matter perspective. For me, I have used B-Spec in all the ways noted above but have ever gone back to do in '200 A-Spec' mindset to deal with things I avoided first time around :D.

The opinion I have developed over time is that B-Spec was added in by PD for those players more used to Arcade-style play so that they can 'complete' the game. It can be approached as a game in it's own right too.

In the end tho', there is no satisfaction substitute for winning a race in A-Spec for a many points as you can.

For the 1000 Miles series, the best I did was with the Alfa Romeo Speciale Giulia (see thread over at GTBN for the story).

i try to run the entire race in aspec, but after 45 minutes to an hour of straight racing, bspec seems like such a convienent cop out, and it is.

I've never used B-Spec, and never will. It's an okay concept, but what's the point of playing a game that you... aren't actually playing?

some people will spit on the idea of letting an artificial intellegent device do the work for you. me on the other had do not have the time (or probably the patience) to run some of the longer enduro's (and yes i know i can leave the machine on pause for rest breaks) but when you work full time and have a wife that needs "looking after" and a house to fix up, there is not a lot of time left for stationing.(dont really think leaving a ps2 on for 4 weeks straight is good for it, IMO anyways) so i choose to use b-spec when i have to, to complete the game.

B-Spec is something I used a lot when I first started the game, usually doing races I thought I could easily win, so I didn't bother! Since discovering A-Spec points, it's usage went down, but I still use it to help with Endurance races sometimes. I think it's a nice addition if you are a person short on time quite a lot, but I find it frustrating, and it's much more fun actually driving yourself!

i dunno why but i use b-spec quite a bit in arcade mode.
Can you even use B-spec in Arcade mode? If so, what's the point? See below...
It's an okay concept, but what's the point of playing a game that you... aren't actually playing?
I understand and support the idea of B-spec in GT Mode, because it allows for completion of races that otherwise could be difficult to find time for. But to B-spec Arcade Mode, which does not count toward completion percentage in GT4, seems pointless at best.

I personally have almost 70% complete and 5,000+ miles of A-spec driving, and ZERO B-spec miles. I expect I will B-spec the 24-hour and 9-hour enduros, and A-spec the 4-hour and shorter enduros.

I used to do everything in B-Spec, but that when I was a n00b C:

Back then I have 8K B-Spec miles and only a few hundred A-spec, but Now 10K B-Spec and 8K A-spec.

I spend most of my time racing in arcade mode. With speakers like the ones I'm using, I just can't have sounds from other cars. Too ear-bursting.

I have used b-spec alot because I collect car colors. I have almost all the colors of Formula GT cars, all the RX-7 LMs, most of the Super Bees and Super Birds and etc etc etc. Without b-spec, you have to run things like the New York enduro over and over about 60 times to get all the Super Bee colors. I would not have the collection I have without b-spec because I would not have done that and I would have been really p.o.'d at PD for giving me 29 colors of Super Bee's to win in a friggin endurance race! So I love b-spec. I must also admit I used it for 1000 miles (though I intend to race that in a-spec at some point). I won't, however, run the Sarthe or Nordschleife 24 hour enduros in a-spec. The absurdity of 24 hours with the sun in the same position in the sky just grates on me too much. In "Test Drive LeMans" on the Dreamcast console, the Sarthe 24 hours went from day to night back to day and held the continual possibility of rain. That was cool. And I'm thankful PD gave me an out here as well. I know I'm being arbitrary in my pickiness but it's a friggin game and I play it how I want. That's one of Gran Turismo's main virtues anyway.

I got to 50% completion all with A-Spec in my current play through. Then I started B-Speccing races I had already done for money. Doing races for money is about the only reason I B-Spec races anymore.

I've A-Specced everything in the game except for the 24 hour endurances. I also got quite a lot of miles on the B-Spec Botcher when trying to make him more skilled... still, I have a lot more A-Spec than B-Spec mileage. Call me nuts but if I need money I'll rather drive the DTM myself than make Botcher run some endurance. :dopey:

I only used it at the start to try it out; haven't touched it since. As has been said before where's the sense of achievement if you're not actually racing?

Okay so for some of the endurance races (The 1000 Miles series comes to mind) you do wonder what the point is but at the end of the day you know that if you didn't do them properly you'd feel like a bit of a cheat.

Or maybe that's just me...?

:D

B-spec: how often does everyone else use it?
Never during normal game play.

I used it a few times at the start, only to learn about its methods and features, to be able to help others with it.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I used it for EVERY ENDURANCE RACE :D

Same 👍 Infact I'm doing one now. Nurb 24 Hour on lap 207 with only 1 hour 45 minutes to go. I ran it on B-Spec :sly:

It's just so easy to fling it on B-Spec go do something different, occasionally pop back to check if it's going alright and then carry on doing what you were doing.

Also the endurance's are too annoy me too much.

I use it whenever I need money, and no, I don't feel guilty at all. I feel sorry for my Chaparral 2J though.. :( 8000 miles at Fuji and counting

8000 miles huh? My grey / black FGT racked up over 35000 b-spec miles in its quest to win an orange copy of itself. The grey one's value is now under a million credits!

Umm, I guess that means my answer to the original topic question is a definite yes...

I use B-Spec to get all the colours of the cars I like.

I also use the El Capitan enduro to earn a near million credits a time.

The funny thing about that one is that this is easily my favourite race in the game. I do it myself with as many different cars as I can as often as I can:dunce:

I wonder why the F1 loses value? It doesn't lose HP or get a weak chassis

Yeah that bugs me too. The first time someone on this forum mentioned that it loses value, I thought they were pulling my leg.. It still feels as good to drive as it ever did. Fortunately, it's the only grey / black one I have so I won't be selling it.

never.
friend and i shared driving a stock Amemiya thru the 24h Nurb.
end of sept we are doing one of the 2, 24h Sarthes.

I use b-spec a huge amount, because I'm very interested in tuning but I'm a lousy driver so far :) It lets me use the full range of vehicles and situations in GT4 and I can develop my own skills at their own pace (getting a wheel would be a start).

I always try out new cars on the Capri rally both ways. I know I'm tuning it well when I'm not banging into things constantly... I also love driving Nurburgring even though I'm terrible at it, and Sparky (b-spec guy) has gotten quite good at the Ring by now, and can win the Deutsche Touring Car Meistershaft and almost all races in it, starting sixth every time, in an Abt Audi TT with only tuning and tire modifications (no engine upgrades).

So I like b-spec. Also you can use it to test cars against each other, if you're rigorous you can restore a saved game each time so Sparky doesn't improve in skill between trials. Good luck getting that consistency from a typical human driver!

All A-spec, except the 24 hour Nurburgring which I may A-spec 1 day, but I wanted the FGT for Formula GT.

The longest I have A-speced id 5 hours (the Cote D'azur on 1000 miles), as I do not like leaving my PS2 on overnight.

If they introduced a save feature in GT5, so you can save in a race, I would happily A-spec the lot.

B-spec I only use occasionally on some of the endurance style races, or if something comes up in the middle of a race and I have to leave, i'll just pit and switch to b-spec, and come back later to see if I won. Of course my PS2 did lock-up once when I left for a booty-call.
