how often do you guys use b-spec?

used by me for money only. it racks up alot of B-spec miles, but i still drive myself more. :) 10500 A spec vs 8000 B spec.

I used to use B-spec a lot for the Enduro's, just for the simple fact that I couldn't be bothered driving around Nurburgring for 24 hours!

I use it occasionally, just for variety's sake, but most of my driving is definitely A-spec. I don't consider B-spec to be blatant cheating unless you've overkilled your B-spec driver with tons of horsepower, because (really) Bob isn't as good as i am. And if I've downplayed Bob's car to the point that he actually has to work, things get interesting. I personally start shouting at my TV when he screws up (and he does...) just like any jock watching football shouting if their team is losing.

...consider these points below and tell me what you think:

1). How many of you have played chess? B-spec to me is similar to a chess game because even tho you're not driving, you still have to rely on strategy, patience, and planning to win. When you play chess, are you actually beating your opponent over the head so you can capture the next piece? No, you are making moves, trying your best to anticipate what will happen 3 moves ahead (if you're good). B-spec is nothing but a dumbed-down version of a strategy game.

2). The less power you use, the better points you get. Actually, this goes for A-spec as well..and I think it's great because it's Polyphony Digital's effort to award players who make the game more challenging for themselves. I can enter a 400 horsepower car into a B-spec race and guarantee a win...but I won't get very many points, or maybe none! Or I can enter the same race with 300 horses, I might lose...but if I win (B or A spec) it means better points. :D

3). Someone (such as myself) who does occasional B-speccing isn't cheating as bad as someone who just does any race via B-spec if the going gets tough. I look at it this way: I've done all my racing A-spec several times over by now, simulating different "drivers". When B-speccing the same race, although it's arguably a waste of time, it gives me a different perspective--and personally, I dig sitting there watching another driver on my imaginary "team" get some action, too.

4). I said this in another thread. Endurance racing: any endurance driver (mediocre or talented) has had a co-driver take over for a few hours!!! WhY CANT WE???. And when "Bob" takes over in my game, 75% of the time he'll start to screw up my game because my car is typically underpowered. Another 25% of the time, he screw up royally...putting me so far behind and making a win impossible. But (as I said) most of my enduros have been A-spec most of the way. Bob would ruin me otherwise. :indiff:

Now, if you're just doing an ENTIRE ENDURO via b-spec without switching over...I'm sorry but that's pure cheating!

You make good points there, and I agree with you, and I too yell at the TV when Bob screws up the race, making me start all over again! Thats just annoying! As for B Spec, why would you buy a game like this and then let someone else do everything for you?
That is just strange.

I have never B-Spec'd a race that I haven't won in A-Spec first (including the 24 Hr races) and I am at 79.8%. That being said, I have over 80K B-Spec miles just from my desire to see if I can max out the B-Spec points and skill ratings Plus my quest to get all the possible colors of several cars. I don't consider it cheating any more that running a bunch of overkill 1 Point A-Spec races, I just consider it a different part ofthe whole GT4 experience.

If you haven't done so already, check the FAQ thread threads to learn how B-spec points can be methodically maxed out to 10000/100/100/100.

I use to run in B-spec a lot in the endurances in my first couple of games. This time around I'm hoping that aside from a little training to bring up his stats, I will only use it during the 24 hour events. Although I do curently have some b-spec points. I accidentaly chose B-spec for one of the touring car races. I believe that the car came in 2nd or 3rd. But from then untill now, its been all a-spec driving.

Its all about the long drawn out battle to be the best.
Anyone can send an over powered car into an event and watch it win.

I'm curently 3/4 of the way through the 1000 miles event running in a stock Skyline GT-B and it has been an absolute blast. In the first race, I had the Alpha GTA riding my bumper on the lap before the last. I remember that my tires were pretty orange and I was pretty low on fuel. I decided to bypass the pits and fight out the final lap. The Alpha ended up going into the pits giving which gave me a good head start. I think he ended up finishing under 10 or so seconds behind me.

Can anyone tell me how to change from b-spec to a-spec in the middle of the race? i.e. pitting and pushing a button so you get to drive the car.

I am new to b-spec and I have the 1000 miles coming up so I think I will need it!!

One more question: can you start the race yourself then hand over to b-spec in the pits?

b.t.w. I have the japanese NTSC version of the game, whether that makes any difference.

Cheers.

When you enter the pit lane, a dialog box pops up. The last option allows you to change between "B-Spec" and "A-Spec". You want to make your choices before the crew begins refuelling your car and changing your tires.

i use it all the time because:

gt4 wasnt what i was expecting it to be.

the 24 hours of nordschliefe win plus the value of a unused fgt make for good money.

its easier to took photos in photo drives because you can access photomode while b-spec drives. i only drive if i want to take drift pictures.

When you pull in the pits, it gives you several choices: whether you want Bob to take over...do you want to refuel? Do you want new tires?

It shouldn't.

I'm using "B-Spec Bob" for the Jaguar XJR-9 car setup at Circuit de la sarthe II. So far I have him doing a 3'07.821 lap on med tires with no NA tunning or turbine kit...Is that fast?... I know that B-Spec will lose 5 seconds in the pits if you aren't around to push the "OK" button, so I want "Bob" to turn laps as fast as possible. Then I'll drive what he's driving... :) (Maybe I'll start a thread for B-Spec car setups. I'd like to know how others are doing.)

When I pull into the pits, all I get for options is tyres, and whether to refuel.

I don't understand.

Does it only work on endurance races? Do I need to push any other buttons?

Is the 5 seconds thing true? Wow, that means it would require some serious HP or handling advantage to be able to set Brandy and forget Brandy... Ouch. I dunno about you guys but I'm not sitting around and babysitting for a 24 enduro.

i use to use it all the time, like all the time! until i got the car i liked and maxed it out and got a lot of money. it got quite boring after that, so i decided to delete everything and restart over except this time drive on my own. lol.

I'm just using it for races I don't like: 1000 miles, Tsukuba 9h, Motegi 8h, etc. Right now I'm enjoying a lot playing with no driving aids (almost 90% complete and I didn't know about it).

I know this is not the topic about it but, how do you really improve the B-Spec driver? I don't understand why does he "learns" sometimes, and sometimes with hardest races he doesn't, even with different cars and tracks. And I tried to look around here for a topic but couldn't find something "clear".

I only use b-spec when it comes to the 24 hour races.

Other races is in a-spec.

Well in my opinion, the creator of Gt4 should of not put b-spec, it ruins the way of playing the game. (It makes the game to easy:yuck:)

hey guys, i'm doing the 1000 miles! series of races and just now starting to use b-spec a lot. just curious; how often does everyone else use it?

That's how I did those races, otherwise I would go insane.

I use B-spec very regularly when I'm taking time to use the GTP.
I come to the GTP when at home with nothing to do... Head to the PS2 and start a the El Capitan Enduro with the Amuse GT1. Wins by over 1 lap everytime by simply using speed 3 and leaving it on overtake.
Earns me just under a million every time and takes only about half an hour by using B-spec at X3 speed in the race manager view.

Thanks to that sort of use I've always got great cash flow even though my B-spec mileage isn't great...

Day 550
10,667 Aspec miles
21,114 Bspec miles

 Kinda sad in a way. ;)

Not really. Like I said earlier, any race that I can do (and have done several times) in A-spec mode might get some action from Bob as well. It's only those who rely on B-spec to get thru portions of the game that they are too lazy or too unskilled to finish that get a thumbs down 👎. On the downside for these folks: B-spec is a lot more expensive to rely in the long run. It's so much cheaper to do your own driving, know what I mean?

I'm finding that on average, you need to power a B-spec car at least 50 horses stronger (sometimes more) than the Ai if you're starting in 6th place in a 2 lap race...that kind of money adds up...especially if you're taking a Miata or some other weakling, entering (say) the MX5 Cup, and needing to add Stage 2 or 3 parts + computer + 2 stages of weight reducing + better tires & suspension etc.
