Dude. this totally sucks. I'm sitting here in the dark with no electricity and no air condition. I'm sweating my ass off as both eye walls slam right over us. We got a direct hit and this sucks. My laptop is on battery power and i'm on the phone line to try and get some information about what's going on.

Two local people died from debris strikes; both projectiles from fallen trees. Actually, I think one tree fell on a guy, and the other was struck in the head.

I'm watching transformers blow up and grids lose their power as we speak. This is really really insane. Lol.

Perhaps i'll edit this later if I manage to find some power and some calm from this raging hell of a storm.

I am. I'm actually shutting it off now. I just needed to check all the news sites (as we don't have TV or radio now.) to see wtf was going on.

Wow! I think the word womped origionated from the TV show Recess... Oh and, bad storm lucky we don't get any of that where I live.

That's a little one, too.. What is it now, a low-end Cat 1? What was that one last year.. Frances? She rolled right over my parents' condo. And then Jeanne rolled over 'em again a few weeks later. And those were Cat 3-4 storms.

You get used to 'em after a while. Hell, my dad and some of the other folks from the condo went out in the middle of the eye to make sure the boats were still tied up securely, and to tighten up or re-tie anything that had come loose or broken. I think the main thing they stocked up on was canned food, water, and booze. Nothin' like a good storm as an excuse to knock down a few, eh? :)

Don't go outside, Omnis. If you have to, make sure you got a hardhat or helmet on(half serious). I had no idea that storm was this serious. :scared:

Ha ha. I guess it's less scary, if you are little tipsy. I don't drink, so I'd be really sober and really scared in a storm like that.

I know. I [am] kind of blowing it out of proportion...but this is a lot worse than we've had in a while. It's a direct hit, so, yes...it's far more powerful than the bands of a 3 or 4.

Kind of ironic that this hurricane comes along 13 years after andrew on the same date in the same exactly path.

Or omnis's face! this diagram will explain everything:

Well, I am sitting in Tampa, and we were watching pretty close here. Some thought it might turn and head back over Florida again. Doesn't look like thats gonna happen, but I do feel bad for North Florida, because it looks like they are gonna get it. May be a Cat 2 by the time it hits there too. Gulf Waters are warm, and upper level shear is low, so conditions are perfect for the storm.

Many of them still haven't gotten over Ivan's damage. :(

Umm....this is no laughing matter.

I had to sleep in a pool of sweat and now I'm sick. I went outside just as the east eye wall was hitting because I had to throw out all the planks of our wooden address sign that literally exploded during a gust of wind. We didn't want any projectiles flying around.

A few large trees and large branches are down around my house, but now i'm at my grandma's place. Her neighborhood is like the only one with power. Most of miami-dade is totally flooded in knee deep water on their streets and into their houses.

I ran out of film, so I taped what I could during the eye of the storm. I wish I would've done the running man in my parking lot at this one point...It was so cool. A gust of wind blew and all the twigs and leaves towards me so it was like perfect "running man conditions" as all this crap flying past me would've better simulated the experience.

haha.

edit: (....so much for the laughing matter.)

At least the tree's didn't land on you, it seems like theres been loads more hurricanes than normal in Florida in the last couple of years.

I think it's el nino.

Everytime el nino comes, it directs hurricanes north and straight into us.

There's, by far, more flood damage than wind damage. Let the insurance war begin...

Yay...Electricity!

Omnis, we got hit as well; our power had been out from 7:30pm Thursday, until Friday afternoon. From then on, we've been hit with power surges and brown-outs, so it's only because we've had a few hours of constant power that I'm finally finding the time to plug in th 'ol box again.

My neighbor's tree split apart (again) and fell on both our lawns. I tugged it over to his property as soon as I had the chance. You'd rather be outside when there's no air conditioning and no power...not much to do but make phone calls and play cards.

So Katrina came as a bit of a surprise; just a Tropical Depression on Tuesday, a Tropical Storm (36-73mph winds) on Wednesday, and a Category 1 Hurricane (74-99 mph) upon landfall. It brewed into something very strong very quickly. Lots of rain, and spurts of wind. The rain hasn't flooded much where I live, but 40 miles south of me is underwater in a lot of places.

Now Hurricane Katrina is a Category 2; possibly a 3 or even a 4 (at the rate it's picking up strength)...usually they weaken after hitting us, but it didn't seem to faze the storm system one bit.

I hope all of you in the Florida Panhandle and other gulf states are ready...Katrina was no joke!

A few of the computer models show Katrina cutting hard to the North East and what looks like a direct hit on Jacksonville. Oh boy.

They're calling it a "'1' to remember"

This cane was so wrongly forecasted. I was totally oblivious to it until the day beforehand. Same with pretty much everyone else.

At least we're not flooded. That's the main thing. Once your house floods, it's the worst thing that can happen. The house will stink of that stagnant water forever, and with floodwaters come sewage water and gasoline-water.

I couldn't believe all the morons out in the streets in thigh-high water. Don't they know any better?

I was outside barbequing. The 60mph winds made my chicken a little cold though, which pissed me off.

I hope everyone is able to stay safe (and hopefully cool) this weekend.

Well, if N'orleans is hit, say goodbye to that city. They'd better have every pump in the state running 24/7.

Ohio never gets hit by Hurricanes...

.

Ok i lied.We always get the aftershock hurricane crap ,Which seems to always be worse because it lingers :(
