HMS Bounty, replica of the original, and used in the movies Mutiny on the Bounty and Pirates of the Caribbean is in trouble about 90 miles offshore, last I heard, about 160 miles from the eye of the storm. Crew has abandoned ship, and are in a lifeboat. Hard to rescue them by air at this point - though Skyhawks and a Hercules are at the ready. Only the Blue Water Navy may be able to get at them at this time; since some of our ships are a tad stronger than this storm.
Media is hyping this storm as a 'Superstorm', liking it to the Long Island Express of yore, and estimate billions in damage, millions without power, and hundred of thousands facing evacuation.
Evolution against Man, but we will prevail.
Take care, you folks in the path of this storm, and may the Force always be with you. Prevail!

I heard the news say it is going to be worse than the 1938 superstorm.
I don't believe it. Or at least I don't want to.

Classes cancelled here in Boston today... too bad I didn't realize until I got up and took a shower.

It's really windy already. I imagine if it gets any worse it's going to be pretty bad.

Good luck to everyone who's in the path and I hop nobody loses anyone close. Best of luck from rainy England. :)

Doesn't sound good at all.

I'm watching The Weather Channel and we are supposed to be in the low 40's with rain all week long. Winds may gust over 40 mph, and a few inches of rainfall are expected.

The Atlantic City boardwalk has been taken out by the storm.
Like literally TAKEN OUT. Parts of it are now floating through the streets of AC.

The wind is seriously picking up hear in Philadelphia. We expect winds of up to 70 mph. My plans for today: Build a giant kite :D

I wish the best to all of you guys in the path of the storm. Hope you all stay safe :)

A strong windmill. A weak one would be akin to just tossing 2x4's on the lawn right now.

Which, for the record, I plan on doing.

I have SO MUCH wood I was going to use to start campfires on the beach that is now soaked, I'm probably just going to toss it out the window tonight, see what happens.

Parts of NY could see gusting above 110mph and they're talking about possible "building failures", I.e. broken glass, in NYC. Best of luck guys. Things are picking up here, but nothing serious yet.

Up here around the Niagara Falls area we're expected to get heavy rain and high winds for the next week or so.. It hasn't stopped raining since Friday, and now we're expected to get winds upwards of 100 mph here tonight.. Be safe everyone :)

Holy ****; It's getting far worse than I expected. Here in DC the metros have closed, school is out and it's pure panic.

Does anyone know what the updated predicted cost of this will be? Last time I heard, it was $1 billion.

I heard that in New York they closed all forms of public transit.

Meanwhile, I am about 3,000 feet from an evacuation zone.
And I'm about 90 feet from a lake.
:scared:

Are people maybe over-reacting just a bit? It's great to take precautionary measure and all, but still..

No.

It's a low hitting a nor'easter, which is then hitting a hurricane which is then hitting land right in the middle of where everyone is.

It's already killed almost fifty people, and it is 400 miles wide.

Haven't had anything interesting yet here in Halifax. It's a little bit windy but nothing out of the ordinary. Apparently we're just going to get a pile of rain tomorrow/Wednesday.
