What is up with those taillights? Seriously, it's almost disgusting how much they look like those on the 3:tdown:.

Other than that, I must say that the styling isn't too impressive. And it is just me or does that car look quite huge?

The CTS is 5er sized, the 300 is a smidge larger than either.

The Genesis is Pontiac G8 sized, or full-size.

Wow, that car is a tank. And, yeah, the tails look like a blend of every BMW out. 3, 5, and X6, with a hint of Infiniti M.

Yeah it would. Although Commodore and Falcon aren't selling very well at the moment as people move to smaller more fuel friendly cars. Holden is doing ok because of its booming export business, but Ford is struggling. Mitsubishi and Toyota are also finding it VERY difficult with their Commodore/Falcon competitors, the 380 and Aurion. So that may be playing on Hyundai's mind. The 300C is selling well here though, so maybe Hyundai NZ will go it alone and import them directly.

I find it very distressing that the Commodore is selling well everywhere but its home market. :indiff: I'm sure it'll sell well here too.

Ooooh, ive never before seen a BMLexus-Benz. Though while I may not find it a looker, im sure it will jump to the top of its class. There really isnt much decent competion with large sedans, nevermind RWD ones.

Wow, now that you mention it, it does look a lot like the G35. My first thoughts were a more muscular Azera, which is already a good-looking car to begin with. Its generally unoffensive, which is a good thing, but at the same time, it would be nice to have maybe a few stand-out features like other cars in it's lineup (namely the Genesis Coupe).

Considering the cars it would go up against in terms of price and performance:

- GM Zeta Cars (Commodore, G8, Impala, Park Avenue)
- Chrysler LX/LY Cars (Charger, 300C)
- Lincoln MKS
- Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable

...yeah, it should be interesting...

-> I like it its contemporary styling, very inoffensive and balanced. Although it had some cues from the G35/Skyline sedan. But the rear in my opinion is very original, the comparison to the 3 series is very far off.

-> Looks like Hyundai is going in to the right direction, better than Acura. :indiff:

I'm now 100% completely sold on Hyundai. The new Tibby and this are sure to make them a MAJOR worldwide competitor to the usual stuff. Now Hyundai needs a small hot-hatch and a pickup truck and they are set for all markets. lol

Not bad for $30K, a V8 and RWD. Problem is, Pontiac offers the same thing. Gah!
Not taking one side over another, but the difference is that one is a Pontiac and one is a Hyundai. And people have just starting to figure out what one has been better for the past 8 years.

Not disagreeable in the least. This is why we swap out the front grille and the rear badges to those of Holden... Throw everyone off!

The rear end looks similar to the new Jag.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe Concept
Hyundai is serious to push its products upmarket. Back in March, it unveiled a rear-wheel-drive and V8-powered luxury sedan called "Genesis" in New York auto show. Now in Los Angeles auto show it introduces Genesis Coupe. This concept 2+2 coupe will be productionised and go on sale in the USA in early 2009. As its name suggests, it is derived from the RWD platform of the Genesis sedan thus it is a class higher than the current Hyundai Tiburon / Hyundai Coupe. Its rivals will include Ford Mustang, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Nissan 350Z, especially the first two.

The Genesis Coupe is 4666 mm long, 1902 mm wide and 1386 mm tall. It has a very long wheelbase at 2820 mm, although this is already 116 mm shorter than the Genesis sedan. The concept car rides on very aggressive 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels shod with 255/35ZR front and 275/35ZR rear tires. The engine is an aluminum 3.8-liter DOHC VVT V6, expected to produce at least 300 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque according to Hyundai.

The power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual box and a limited slip differential. 0-60 mph will take less than 6 seconds. Its brakes are supplied by Brembo, with 340mm and 330mm disc front and rear respectively and two-pot calipers all round. No pricing has been announced, but expect it will be competitive against Eclipse and the V8-powered Mustang GT, which should be in the range of US$25,000-27,000. An entry level model costing around US$20,000 will be powered a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing in excess of 200 horsepower. Currently the Tiburon costs between US$17,000 and US$22,000.
Linky.
Where this will fit in with the rest of the Hyundai range, I dunno. Especially with the impending RWD Tiburon.

Hyundai unveiled its highly anticipated Concept Genesis Coupe during a press conference at the Los Angeles International Auto Show today. The concept car heralds the introduction of an all-new, rear-wheel drive 2 + 2 sports coupe scheduled to join the Hyundai lineup in the spring of 2009. Following the introduction earlier this year of the Concept Genesis sedan, Concept Genesis Coupe signals Hyundai’s second step in broadening its appeal to driving enthusiasts.

CONCEPT GENESIS COUPE HIGHLIGHTS
- Second rear-wheel drive performance car from Hyundai
- 300+ horsepower from enhanced 3.8-liter V6 from Genesis sedan
- The production version of the sports coupe arrives in the spring of 2009

The Sonic Orange concept is complemented by a Ballistic Black carbon fiber hood, roof and ground effects for reduced weight. Strong hints of the production version are highlighted in its “Z” bodylines and powerful curves. When the production sports coupe arrives, it likely will be the most affordable 300+ horsepower car on the market, and the most dynamic performance car yet from Hyundai.

“Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet,” said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. “When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse.”

DESIGN PROCESS

“The mission for Concept Genesis Coupe was to create a pure performance car with a design that would capture the imagination of hardcore automotive enthusiasts,” said Joel Piaskowski, chief designer at the Hyundai Design Center in Irvine, Calif. “With its aggressive look from just about any angle, I think we have been able to do that.”

The powerful curves, surface detail and “Z” bodyside lines come straight from the same underlying inspiration that guided two earlier, well-received concepts: the HCD9 Talus and the HCD8 sports tourer. The undulating beltline borrowed from the Talus adds intrigue while enhancing outward visibility for both the driver and rear passengers. The HCD8 sports tourer’s sensual body forms influenced the overall design theme while also providing direction for the concept’s assertive headlight and taillight designs.

The look of Concept Genesis Coupe was in part inspired by LeMan’s race cars, drifters and by Jada Toys Dub City™ die cast vehicles. The front and rear stance of the Concept Genesis Coupe can be described as sinister.

“Beauty and danger co-exist in the design of the Concept Genesis Coupe,” said Eric Stoddard, senior creative designer. “When viewed from a distance, the car is beautiful to look at. But up close it can appear a bit menacing and even a little intimidating.”

The concept’s rocker panels are drawn close to the ground making the bodysides extra thick and the daylight opening extremely thin, allowing the wheels to be slammed up into bulging fenders. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized.

Three large heat extractors sculpted into the hood are designed to cool just about any powerful engine. When the concept becomes reality, three large openings in the front fascia will allow for better engine breathing. The dual exhaust tips integrated into the rear fascia repeat the design theme of the front cooling ducts and are surrounded by a large carbon fiber air diffuser.

An arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car's broad shoulders and wide stance. Concept Genesis Coupe rides on 20-inch polished aluminum deep-dish wheels with Hankook 255/35 ZR front tires and 275/35 ZR rear tires.

Haha, "more than 300 horspower" could literally mean 301bhp to 399bhp ladies and gents. I'm thrilled. We need more "big body" coupes these days. Seems Mercedes has this market almost completely cornered with the CL, followed by BMW with its M6. Would I like an affordable large coupe with good speed, great reliability, style, at a good price? You bet I would. SOLD.

-> For a good cruiser sedan, I'd take the Genesis over the Avalon.

-> For a good sport cruiser sedan, I'd take the G8 (got to be a M/T, GXP if possible) over the Charger SRT-8.

:)
