In a vain attempt to settle the argument, just say "the 'Ring" from now on :sly:

Seriously though, I think you'd be one of very very few people to genuinely hate the 'Ring. But, like most people have already said, each to thier own.

I really enjoy driving it on GT4, and it has become a dream of mine to be able to drive the Nordschleife.

Well, if you hate the Ring, don't drive it. Just my opinion. Drive other tracks. In a few months or more, when you feel like it, you can allways return to it and try again.

I on the other hand love it so much, that I drive it all the time. And it helped me a lot, to learn the track in GT4 and drive it "like a maniac" (by my brother) when I took my BMW on the track there. It was really a dream come true! And also two drives (one with Sabine) with M5 Ringtaxi (if you ever do that, make sure Sabine is driving, she drives faster and better than one of the other guys I drove with).

And I must confess - after being on the track myself, I love it even more in GT4 and can't wait to take my car upthere again - hopefully this September ...

Once you sit for a few days completing mission 24 - you have to like it!!!!

I like the hype and the feeling of being at the nurb but i hate when i get flung off the track for being too confident around a corner - Forza 2 model of Nurb is no where near as good as GT4's

When I first took a drive around the ring (got the game on release in 2005) I couldn't stay on the course to save my life. Now I can stay on the course and make good times. The Ring has become my benchmark track for testing vehicles. It is so fun. That course never gets old. It will definately show you how good or bad a vehicle is.:scared:

I hate how long it is
I hate it's perpetual gloominess
I hate how it has two endurance races
I hate how bumpy it is
I hate how it has 2 full lap license tests
I hate how it has Mission 34
I hate how bumpy it is
I hate how the AI will bump you off and you lose 15 seconds
I hate how everyone loves it
I hate flugplatz
I hate karussel
I hate all 172 other corners
I hate how every series always ends there
I hate everything else about it

I hate the Nuerburgring

Nürburgring

I could not, would not, in a GT-One.
I will not, will not, with any Nissan.
I will not drive it in the rain.
I will not drive it in a bad frame.
Not in the dark! Not after tea!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like it in a boxer.
I do not like it with a Sauber.
I will not drive it in any Audi.
I will not drive it in a Pagani.
I do not like it here or there.
I do not like it ANYWHERE!
I do not like Nürburgring!
I do not like it GTP-I-Sing!

You do not like it so you say.
Try it! Try it! And you may.
Try it and you may, I say.

GTP!
If you will let me be,
I will try it, you will see...

Say!
I like Nürburgring!
I do! I like it GTP-I-Sing!
And I would drive it in a GT-One.
And I would drive it in any Nissan.
And I will drive it in the rain.
And in the dark. And in a bad frame.
And in a car. And after tea.
It is so good, so good you see!
So I will drive it in a boxer.
And I will drive it with a Sauber.
And I will drive it in any Audi.
And I will drive it in a Pagani.
And I will drive it here or there.
Say! I will drive it ANYWHERE!
I do so like Nürburgring!
Thank you! Thank you! GTP-I-Sing!

You may hate the 'Ring and I will respect that.

However, I do ask that you give it the proper respect. I don't know if you are old enough to drive yet (your profile doesn't say) but when you get into a car to drive I am willing to bet at least one innovation in your car was due to the 'Ring.

EDIT: Nice poem there, DN. 👍

I feel like I should distinguish something:

The REAL Nuerburgring, the one near Cologne, I have no problem with. It's got a wonderful history, it's a proving ground for cars, changing weather, and a distinct lack of idiots blowing into your backside. The only bad thing about it is that it is the inspiration for:

The GT4 Nuerburgring. The one that shows up far too often on my television. The one without changing weather, with no history to speak of (aside from a few race reports and a WRS round or two), has five other drivers who make no effort to avoid you, and appears in every race series in the game

Why don't you just say you hate GT4? Aside from it being in a large number of the race series in the game (really?) everything you said can be used to describe the game as a whole and not just the track.

How far along are you in the game? I don't remember running into it so much that it got annoying.

OK, I was inspired to do some research.

According to the Race Guides here at GTP there are a total of 121 race series in the game, counting manufacturer races but not counting the Mission Hall (It wasn't listed). My numbers may be slightly off as I had to click on each hall and count through the races series.

The 'Ring shows up in 15 race series. That is slightly over 12% of the series in the game. That percentage would be much lower if I claculated how many individual races used the 'Ring. Most of those are in the European and Extreme Halls. I don't call that too much for such a historic course that car enthusiasts would love to whip their virtual car around because they can't get there in person. Are you sure that it isn't more likely that you have just managed to recently be doing a lot of the series that have it in it or have just recently done a lot of long races on the track so most of your time has been spent on the 'Ring?

While I didn't keep count Tsukuba and some version of Fuji showed up at least twice as often.

I think you've blown this out of proportion and when you get into the manufacturer's races and the Japanese and American Halls you will be wondering how many more times you have to race Infineon or Fuji.

and appears in every race series in the game
There are 143 events in GT4, of those 143 events, they account for 522 individual races, of which only 15 are on Nürburgring.

Excluding the two endurance races, the 13 races on Nürburgring total only 722 miles of racing, while the whole game has over 22,000 miles of racing excluding Family Cups and Missions.....just in case you or anyone else might be curious. :)

I've always called the Nürburgring Nordschleife as the "Nürburgring Nightmare." It probably isn't wise to just say you hate a certain track and devote an entire thread to it. I grant you that I'm not particularly fond of the Nürburgring either. But I wouldn't go to something like this.

If you've raced this track before (and you have in one way or another), there's something you have to admit about this track- some incredible scenery. Ever seen replays with this track? Some of the camera views are better than my favorite long course- Le Mans. I haven't liked racing extremely fast cars around this narrow labyrinth. You need a fast car to do the GT All-Stars. In fact, I still remember that I was racing the Nissan R92CP versus another Nissan R92CP. I tried to qualify better and succeeded. As soon as my position shown 1st, I quickly exited. I had to basically race the race of my life being tied with the other R92CP for the championship. That car even passed me on Lap 2 of 2, but I still managed to motor along to victory and win that BMW McLaren F1 GTR.

This track takes patience and skill. If you feel you can't win here, then just let your B-Spec driver take over. If you don't believe in B-Spec, then remember this- you have a better chance of winning a race with B-Spec if your A-Spec driver (meaning you) can't get it done. At least learn the racing line control the B-Spec driver (I'm not using "B-Spec Bob." It's a stupid name in my view) so you can better race the track in A-Spec. There are many ways to go for victory in this race and racing this track. Making a thread like this isn't one of them. Try a little harder to do well with that course.

Man... I sincerely hope the guy who started this thread got the same black mark against their name that I got for insulting the Suzuka circuit!!

Put it this way - The Nurburgring is GT's only saving grace in my eyes.

This just goes to show that counting by hash marks on scrap paper is not the most accurate way to do things. I would have used the marker board but it is filled with work-related stuff (always gets in the way).

At least I got the count of Nürburgring races right.

This means that it is in less than 10.5% of the series and less than 3% of all races total.

And I was right about the number of times you end up on Fuji and Tsukuba. I really think it is the amount of time you spend on the track at a time that makes it seem as if you are on it way too much. It is an extremely long track and anything over one lap is longer than most 2-3 lap races on any other track.

Sorry, but I have to ask - Are you for real ?...

Move over to FM2 then, It's so much better when you use a game that has REAL physics. xD
👍

Have to agree. I have no intention of buying GT5 or anything else from DP ever again. I'm still dumbfounded as to why GT4 is so popular, sure it looks good, but it's just so far off the mark in so many areas it's way too irritating to play anymore as a game. The challenges are all that it's good for now.

Gawd, Viper Racing is like 10 years old and it blows GT4 away - still for driving fun.

OK - This is a thread about the GT4 'ring, we have plenty of active threads discussing the merits of FM2 and how it compares to other games/sims around. If you wish to discuss this I suggest you take it to the appropriate thread.

Can we please keep this on topic or it will get locked.

Thanks

I can understand that the GT4 AI is bad, but this also means YOU have to choose cars similar to their's, YOU have to drive cleanly, YOU have to get realistic-ish lap times, I think that PD put the worse AI in, to promote cleaner, more realistic driving! :dopey:

Considering how many holes have been exposed in Aquendwato's rantings, like those Wolfe and others have pointed out, perhaps the line that explains the OP's position clearly is this one:
*snip*
I hate how everyone loves it
*snip*
There are a few people on GTP and in life who seem to enjoy playing the role of the contrarian or Devil's Advocate, often times purposefully going against popular opinion. Not that that is necessarily an unreasonable thing to do, and when it is something entirely based on a subjective opinion it is only natural to find these very reasonable differences of opinion.

In fact, sometimes taking a contrarian POV allows you to better understand the popular opinion. I know I have played the role of the contrarian or Devil's Advocate from time to time where I feel I am not getting enough real facts to support the popular opinion, and it often has resulted in better understanding the opposing opinions.

However it becomes unreasonable when someone takes on that role of contrarian time after time when many of the reasons they give make absolutely no sense and can be quickly dismissed as untrue, misleading, and or illogical. Thus suggesting they do not even agree with the opnion they are expressing. Some might call that stirring the pot, but it can also be considered trolling with the intent to draw attention to themselves and get a thrill be seeing people react negatively to their hyperbolic rants.

I have to say that I'm a little bemused that some people think that the 'Ring {:D} is so hard.

Yes, there are more turns than normal but that's what practise and memory are for - there aren't that many corners.

Also, the mentioned opinion that it's easy to crash at the 'Ring is puzzling. The pedal just to the left of the accelerator is the brake - used at the proper time and at the proper intensity it prevents crashing . In other words, if you crash you are going too fast for the turn/your tyres/your car/your experience.

As I said in response to the OP, if you don't like it, don't do it. What's hard about that? ROFL.

Can we please keep this on topic or it will get locked

Guilty as charged... :) (letting my distaste for certain game elements over-ride etiquette)

I actually don't mind the 'Ring', I suppose the one thing it does is make you aware of how bad you are at picking your line, which you can think about as you slide and bash your way through the grass on your way to recovery. 👍

Odd thing is I don't find it as dismal and dark as some do, well mostly anyway.

For someone who has simply stated that he hates Polyphony Digital's Nurburgring, everyone in this thread is taking it quite personally :odd: .

Ardously correcting the very general remarks and indirectly bullying the OP into liking the 'Ring isn't gonna work. I hate the fact the OP hates Nurburgring too, but the only way he'll ever like it is when he darn well starts to like it!

One of the main reasons for me to buy a PS2 and GT4 was Nürburgring and the other was the variety of cars I could drive on it.

I've already had the chance to went to the 'Ring with some friends and I missed it... When I heard the trip report and watched the photos they took I instantly knew I had made one of the worst mistakes of my life.

They drove on the 'Ring with a rented Alfa 147 1.9JTD and they said wonders about the track itself... :) not so much about the car though :grumpy:

I love italian autos :dopey:
