I hate Nuerburgring

You can and will learn to love the track if you give it time.
I'm still nowhere near mastering the Nürburgring, but I'm really starting to enjoy driving it.

Just start with a really, really, really slow car (think something that'll barely make it up the hills). Drive around, enjoy the scenery and learn the basic curves and visual markers while having the occasional peek at the map as another visual aid.
Next take a faster car and learn about the bumps, the ideal driving line and the parts where you really have to concentrate to stay on the track.
Now drive different cars with different characteristics (with power up to about 300 hp) on the track and learn the different elements that make this track interesting.
Start with the easier cars, like an S2000 or any other car you feel good in.

This worked for me because I noticed that finishing the track without sliding on the grass (even with a very low powered car) gave me the feeling I really accomplished something. Driving it with a faster car gave that feeling again.
I still fly off at some points in cars with around 300bhp (and average weight), but it is a lot of fun :)

Ok, the AI spoiled it for me more than once, but it has managed to do that on almost all other tracks, so I'm not going to let that spoil my ride (although it usually spoils my lead  )

Man... I sincerely hope the guy who started this thread got the same black mark against their name that I got for insulting the Suzuka circuit!!

Put it this way - The Nurburgring is GT's only saving grace in my eyes.

Greetings Squire Toad!
My feelings about the Japanese circuits is probably on par with yours. I find the Japanese circuits to be tedious and unimaginative, not to mention the heritage is lacking as well. The Ring is rich in every aspect. It is the truest test of driving skill in the world, and one that should be admired not whined over. Mr. Earnhart senior once said that if you didn't like going fast, get out of racing. If you cannot appreciate the ring for it's sheer greatness, drive on the sidewalk.
Just some cantankerous ramblings,

Love the Ring & love GT4's Ring. About 50% of my time in GT4 I spend running laps on the Ring, because nothing else in GT4 compares.

I know every corner intimately, it's just a question of dialing each car's performance characteristics in to the course & pushing it as hard as possible, without making any mistakes.

The length of the course alone, makes it way more interesting than any of the other courses. Just wondering if in real life it is ever run in reverse. Makes for an interesting new challenge & completely different scenery.

I hate how long it is
I hate it's perpetual gloominess
I hate how it has two endurance races
I hate how bumpy it is
I hate how it has 2 full lap license tests
I hate how it has Mission 34
I hate how bumpy it is
I hate how the AI will bump you off and you lose 15 seconds
I hate how everyone loves it
I hate flugplatz
I hate karussel
I hate all 172 other corners
I hate how every series always ends there
I hate everything else about it

I hate the Nuerburgring

I Love the Ring!

I love how long it is!
Perpetual gloominess? errr...maybe turn up your brightness? 💡
I love the 1000 mile race and have done it twice (so far)
I love how bumpy it is!
I'll probly breeze thru the full-lap tests since I love the course!
Ditto on Mission 34
I love how bumpy it is! (dude you already said that).
I love the Ai, but I know how to drive so they rarely bump me
Everyone doesn't love the Ring, actually.
I love Flugplatz
I love Karussel
I love all 172 corners. Even when I sucked and didn't know how to drive this course yet
...every race series ends there??? :D 👍
I love everything else about it (whatever that means).

All that being said here's some of my bitches:

I wish the ring had more than just 5 other cars to drive against.
I wish the ring (as well as any enduro-ish races) had variable weather as Aquadento stated earlier.
I wish there were some spectators!
All the chalk dust from those ads in the road...now I gotta get a car wash for sure! :dunce: j/k

Well if you're saying that GT4's variation of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is bad, then just say that rather than say you hate this track period. I'm not a fan of racing the Nürburgring Nordschleife in ANY game. But if you're just saying GT4's variant is bad, then just say that rather than saying you hate it PERIOD. You how Smokey the Bear says "Only you can prevent forest fires?" Well, only you can prevent a firestorm in a thread. Pattern your words carefully in the future.

I'm so glad I'm not alone!! -Salvation!!-

And yes!! The 'Ring seperates the men from the boys. ;)

I feel like I should distinguish something:

The REAL Nuerburgring, the one near Cologne, I have no problem with. It's got a wonderful history, it's a proving ground for cars, changing weather, and a distinct lack of idiots blowing into your backside. The only bad thing about it is that it is the inspiration for:

The GT4 Nuerburgring. The one that shows up far too often on my television. The one without changing weather, with no history to speak of (aside from a few race reports and a WRS round or two), has five other drivers who make no effort to avoid you, and appears in every race series in the game

For someone who has simply stated that he hates Polyphony Digital's Nurburgring, everyone in this thread is taking it quite personally :odd: .

Ardously correcting the very general remarks and indirectly bullying the OP into liking the 'Ring isn't gonna work. I hate the fact the OP hates Nurburgring too, but the only way he'll ever like it is when he darn well starts to like it!

Only 4 of 14 points have anything to do with GT4, and given that GT4's AI is exceedingly crappy everywhere, only 3 are limited to GT4's Nuerburgring. And, since only 1 in 6 series contain the 'Ring, let alone as the final race, only 2 of the points are really valid - Mission 34 that everyone seems to hate, and two full lap licence tests.

Flugplatz, Karrussel and all 172 other corners appear on the real 'Ring too, and it can be gloomy a lot of the time because it's in the middle of the Black Forest. And if you hate how bumpy it is in GT4, don't go visit it in real life, because you will excrete building materials...

Incidentally, how is having "no history" even a valid complaint? It's a virtual model of the real thing - it either has the associated history of the real thing, or it has as much history as any other track in the game.

The Ring is really special place for me. Let me tell you about my first lap on the Ring in reality. I had the lucky opportunity of driving on the Ring all by myself! I work as a van driver, and had to make an express delivery to a place close to the Ring on 3rd January, so after that I had some free time and went up to the track just to look arround a bit (I do that everytime I'm close) and I noticed, that the track was open. So I checked with Race Control, if I can take a lap with my van, because I'm a newbie and don't want to get in the way plus I don't wanna drive fast with my "company" car. And the men in there laughed and said "No problem. There is nobody on the track at the moment. You would be all alone on the Ring." Few seconds later my hands were shaking trying to insert a bill into the ticket-machine and few moments later I was driving. Needless to say - I took it with care and drove pretty slowly as it was slippery as hell (empty van, 120 diesel horses under the hood, good winter tyres and had wheelspin in 4th gear at 60kph ... :nervous: ... and one unexpected moment of oversteer entering Escbach - also at ~60kph ... :scared: ...), but I survived, enjoyed the ride way too much and just had fun. It was the best day of my life.

I took some photos at the start of the lap, but then (smart 👍 ) decided to just enjoy the ride.

The van (anyone who's ever been at the ring will notice the lack of crowd here on that day), looking at the starting gates

Just after start (end of Döttinger Höhe), a view from under the bridge down to Tiergarten

Into Hohenrain, last bend of the Ring

I consider myself a very lucky man, because of that experience. And I got even happier in spring, when I took another ride with BMW M5 Ringtaxi and in the afternoon took my own BMW on the Ring with some squeeling tyres ... :dopey:

Entering the Ring, Exiting the Ring

We arrived early. Very early. Like ... almost nobody here early :)

So you see why it's personal now and why you just must enjoy the green hell of Nürburgring. :sly:

PS: Sorry for that little bit off topic, but I really wish everybody who likes this track as much as I, to be able to do that what I did :).

I love how long it is (make it even longer!)
I love it's perpetual gloominess (wish GT had weather so you could see all the different types of weather)
I love how it has two endurance races (the more the better)
I love how bumpy it is (challenging and you can get air time too)
I love how it has 2 full lap license tests (it just makes it harder, which is better)
I love how it has Mission 34 (save the best for last!)
I love how bumpy it is (repeat)
I love how the AI will bump you off and you lose 15 seconds (well not really but it makes it harder)
I love how everyone loves it (if you love it you're awesome, no offense if you don't)
I love flugplatz (it's part of the course, so I like it)
I love karussel (cool turn)
I love all 172 other corners (every corner I welcome)
I love how every series always ends there (again, save the best for last)
I love everything else about it (it's the Nurb!)

I love the Nurburgring

But I wish GT4 had the other versions like the Sudschliefe and the Full Loop, as well as that "warm-up" version no one knows about any more. Granted they'll hopefully be in GT5.

I love how it has two endurance races (the more the better)
While not officially an endurance race, 1000 Miles! (324 of them on the Nurb) is certainly long enough to make it unofficially three endurance races in GT4 that take place on the Nurb. :)

But I wish GT4 had the other versions like the Sudschliefe and the Full Loop, as well as that "warm-up" version no one knows about any more. Granted they'll hopefully be in GT5.
That would be fantastic!

Greetings Sir Viper,
A most excellent post! Having experienced the Ring many years gone by, your post was a welcome reminder of it's charms and challenges! Thank you Sir Knight,

I too hate "The Ring".

- I hate how it makes all other tracks in GT4 seem short and boring
- I hate how it is challenging to drive even in a car with as little as 100bhp
- I hate how it sits there daring you try and shave a couple of seconds off your best lap and I hate how it mocks you when you can't.
- I hate how you can't help but attempt it again
- I hate how you have to think carefully about tyre wear

And most of all I hate how it is so damn addictive!

I hate the Nuerburgring

Hahahahahahah! I love the way you made the list!:) That is very funny! In fact, the thing I hate most about it is doing the endurance races and having to run out of fuel all the time! That happened to me 4 times!

Ah the sacred Nurburgring. I also developed a hate for "The Ring" in my early days of GT4. However this hate became what i used to make me want to conquer it even more. The one track i wont go anywhere near in a car that has anything more than about 350 horsepower (unless its a touring car) for fear of having my drivers vital organs rearranged.

I wouldn't say i love the track but that doesn't stop me from going back again and again to try and beat my best times. Before Nurburgring came along i rated myself as a fairly good GT driver but after one lap around that place my pride was severely dented.

I'm still trying to memorize the section between the karussel and kleine-karussel

A good portion of this section can be found in one of the A-license tests. This is what helped me immensely after rolling thru there about 20 times trying to silver.

When I first started playing GT4, the Nurb was my enemy. Now, I just can't stop going for a lap on that track! 👍
I just don't like all the grey clouds in the sky...

The only thing I hated about the 'Ring in GT4 was waiting for Mission 34 to actually start.

But I wish GT4 had the other versions like the Sudschliefe and the Full Loop, as well as that "warm-up" version no one knows about any more. Granted they'll hopefully be in GT5.

I'd love a game covering the entire era of racing (within reason) on the circuits you mentioned-adding Spa and Sarthe for good measure. The early days through the 1970's, and your car choice would define what the track configuration and scenery looked like, as well as your competiton, for the race, like video footage from the era itself. I was reading a preview of an upcoming Wii game where you can pick different cars from the glory days of the Indy 500 and race on versions of the track that match the era of the car. It's the Wii, so it was pretty simplistic, but the same theory expanded on a more powerful system would be pretty interesting.

The sensation of speed is greater for me at the 'Ring than at any other track in GT4. I'd love to add to that feeling by driving legendary (and sometimes poor handling) race cars down even more treacherous or nonexistent versions of the modern-day circuits. It would be sweet to go flying down narrow roads lined with trees and high grass, bumps and hazards everywhere, with full damage and the awesome sound of the cars of a vanished era.

This video is a 2007 Sudschleife vintage event, but you get the idea:

I'm still trying to memorize the section between the karussel and kleine-karussel

I also find this section the most difficult to memorize. I always breathe a sigh of relief upon reaching the kleine-karussel.

I don't even see a need to memorize it. There's no real hard turns in it, so if you know how to brake and turn, you should be good.

Actually, to be honest, every time I drive the Neurburgring it seems like a new course :P. I don't mind it that much, it's just... long.

you really have to admire the complexities of the ring to fully appreciate it. i am not quite there yet, but i am really starting to understand it now after getting 100% complete and now just playing around and doing laps in 24hr to get the other liveries and also trying the 4hr a-spec, (hard to find time) but it really is a fantastic course to run on.

i think the 'real' racing guys who run on this course have balls the size of coconuts. i mean seeing the youtube video of a r8 i think was absolutley mind blowing. this type of video also helps with the line you need to take.

I also find this section the most difficult to memorize. I always breathe a sigh of relief upon reaching the kleine-karussel.

I'm telling you: just do that A license test (sorry I'm forgetting which number it is). Push R3 (your rite analog stick) so it shows you the racing line you'll need to take. Do this test about 10x till you begin to memorize it.

No it won't take you thru the entire section between Karussels, but at least it takes you thru the most difficult portion.

Technically, I'm perfectly fine on it, though my car just isn't fast enough. I did my first race on it and got 4th, which is still a lot to me since it showed that, with a relatively low powered car, I can still beat slightly faster cars, and a frickin' good Toyota wagon racer at that.

I really like this course. Hard but satisfying.

I'd say you got the same hands as people who do drive through the Nurenburgring with a controller without any errors. So everything you hate it for is in between your ears.

Simple aint it:)
