I have a theory. There are two types of people that purchased GT5.

There are people who played previous GTs, loved them and are excited to play the newest game in the series. This groups know exactly what to expect from a GT game and it seems they can all agree that GT5 was a success. It could've been better, but it accomplished what it set out to do(for the most part).

Then, there are the people who purchased GT5 because they heard it was supposed to be a bad ass game. They thought they were going to get this uber awesome game, when all the got was a new Gran Turismo. These are the people that moan, complain, and nit pick about graphics, grinding and minor details and claim to be disappointed as GT "didn't live up to the hype".

Clearly, it's the other way around. People who are new to the Gran Turismo franchise do not know what they are missing from previous titles... they are happy with what they got and they appreciate any DLC; they would most likely drive Nordschleife and show the replay to their friends who go "no way... this is television."

People who are familiar with the GT series are the ones complaining... they are not only complaining, but also insulting any other member of GTP who dares to have a different opinion.

As stated in a different thread, I only started with GT5:P I'm happy with the product; sure, things could have been done in a different manner, but I enjoy GT5 as I enjoy(ed) all my other games; however, GT5 is the game that always finds its way back into my console, unlike other games.

I love this game, whereas other games get boring after a while GT5 has provided me countless hours of fun. Thank you PD for the best Ps3 title so far.

At least GT hasn't started sucking as much as Final Fantasy. Give GT another 10 years and I bet everything goes downhill like FFXIII did.

Ooh god, don't get me started on Final Fantasy. I use to get so hyped up for new games in that series. Now my response is usually "what? another one?"

At least i'm likely to get somewhat excited for GT6.

GT fans like GT because it is GT.

Circular reasoning is circular.

Yes we would like physics like iRacing or the tracks of Shift 2 but we would not like it anywhere else except in Gran Turismo.

This is exactly the problem. Hardcore GT fans refuse to accept anything that hasn't got a GT label on it. And will support unquestioningly anything WITH a GT label on it.

When you start saying that other games do certain stuff better, but they're not as good because they're not called GT you need to take a breath...

I'm the type that started out with GT5..Got mesmerized by the game even with all it's problems and couldn't / didn't want to put it down for more than a week. Fell in love with the Nurburgring in an old Benz. This game is magic. I'm still playing a couple of hours pretty much every day.

Massive exaggeration :dunce:

GT fans like GT because it is GT. There is something about a Gran Turismo game that different than any other sim on the market.

I like how you say it's a massive exaggeration and then prove his point in the very next sentence.

If GT4 was ported to PS3 with 1080p I'd probably play it instead of GT5, but I would definitely miss the drifting lobbies. I don't remember ever drifting before GT5, because I either didn't know how, or because there was no reason to.

Anyone remember Tokyo Xtreme Racer series? I loved those games.
