I just finished listening to a speech from the next United States president.

I said his heart (compassion), mixed with the shrewdness of Clinton or Nixon.

I know, I was only kidding. :P

His desire to do the right thing, no matter what, is what got him into so much difficulty.
I agree - yet it was the desire of people like President Clinton and Richard Nixon to cover up the wrong thing that left them in such difficulty as well. So the popular one should be he who stands in the middle. And wouldn't that be Preisdent Bush? He doesn't seem too popular to me...

Evidently, president of a country is a tough job.

Yes, we need the heart of Jimmy Carter and his brain so we can take it and bury it somewhere where no man will ever find it.

Worst president ever.

Because he was honest? I guess honesty counts for nothing.
He was great at foreign affairs.

It's the times. Should we be trying to be friendly to the nations we suspect are harboring terrorist? Maybe you mean France and Germany? They will fall in place eventually. I wonder how they would be reacting to everything if 9/11 happened there and we didn't want to help them in what they see as a threat?

I made a mistake saying Clinton wasn't good at affairs.

No, I believe we should defend ourselves when attacked. I was referring to other UN nations. Sorry for the vagueness. :)

When you are about to get in a fight do you wait till the other guy hits you first?

Under UN regulations you are actually entitled to attack if you believe yourselves under imminent attack.

NO. You see him start to swing, feint to the face and smash the forward knee with a stomping kick!

We have turned the other cheek to some degree. Now it's time to "gird our loins" for the next attack.
I don't advocate starting a war with the "suspects". I do advocate defending the home front.

Good morning Gil.
The problem is we(U.S.) never seem to see the punch comming.

True that.
I think that it goes back to our thinking that most everyone is good, kind and gentle.
A "code yellow" state of mind is foriegn to most of us. We are one of the strongest nations on the planet. We also tend to be the most compassionate.
Because of this we tend to strut more like a peacock. We should be a bit more like the eagle. Noble, but ready to fight if necessary.

The economy was horrible under James Carter. Foreign affairs mean nothing to me an average American citizen who doesn't often deal with press conferences in Cuba.

The man would simply rather stay in power than get bombarded by the rest of the world and the United States. I have no idea what your logic is for him wanting to attack us.

Do you believe Iraq was about to attack us?

In a global economy, which involves more than money, an attack is not limited to the American "homeland," for lack of a better term. Bush says repeatedly that he is worried about American interests and allies; they are scattered all over the world, including the Middle East.

Some people seem to think we live in a political landscape that resembles medieval Europe, where we can build a wall around us and forget the rest of the world. The USSR already did this and failed.

Japan did it and, in my "opinion," succeeded.
