It depends where you live. A teacher friend of mine (he's 60 now) was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and said that no one but Hispanics drove Camaros and Firebirds.

By the way - the Camaro pictured is a perfect example of someone either talking on a cell phone and not braking before coming up behind someone at a red light, or someone stalling in the number one lane of a highway.

Actually those pics are street racing accidents. Thats at least thats what my friend said at least.

BTW check the avatar made by powerman :D

I do not believe the 6.6l cars were all that powerful. Late 70s, I believe. 180-210 hp, around there.

where's alexy, i thought he might give an opinion on this. he asked what a Trans Am is.

there is one thing to remember, in terms of packaging and original marketing the firebird was geared toward performance before the mustang was in its early years. mustangs and camaros have a better race heritage, i believe because gm is super biased toward chevrolet, ford for whatever reason, but you could a 400 cube engine and like around 325-375, somewhere around there, hp engine. mustangs were youth drawing cars, hi-po was firebird/camaro territory. this does not count the shelbys.

Street,
The T/A and Camaro have been faster than Mustangs for years.
But in my youth when they were racing them 1969-1970 they were all running 5.0 liter motors.
They were all pretty evenly matched until AMC threw in a "monkey wrench" It was called the AMX. It was the monster among "tran-am" race cars.

He told me that Trans Ams were only for Dirty Mexcians and weren't a real car guys car

Claychampion said that, and that was in response to YOUR comment that mustangs are for canadians

Saleen seems to be the only one who gets my point here. I understand that the trans am is a "better car" by your standards. That is your opinion. I like mustangs better. That is my opinion.

My dad may build mustangs, but he doesn't know crap about current cars. He tells me nothing of what to like or not like. He has no influence over what I like in a car whatsoever. Get it straight, stop bringing it up.

You can have your opinions even though they may be wrong.

No opinion is wrong. However, stating an opinion as a fact is ALWAYS wrong

He has all the influence! If he didn't work fo Ford you would hate them just like 80% (well maybe not 80) of the American Population.

You agreed with Claychampion though and I said Mustangs were girls sports cars. Plus most Amercian cars are built in Canada or Mexico.

In my opinion yes the Trans Am is. By stats its also way better. So its not based on my standards. I go by stats and reviews, not personal opinion as much. If I used personal opinion I would be extremely biased towards Dodge.

The opinion I have is based off facts. I amit that I don't know everything about cars but on this one I've did some research so I wouldn't sound like an ass.

Hands down the Trans Am/Firebird/Camaro are all better then the Ford Pony.

And If you are wondering if I just hate ford I don't. I like the F-Series trucks. Ford just doesn't make good cars except some of the older ones. (i.e. 32 Coupe and Pinto) There are many other cars companies that have surpassed Ford in every way.

BTW when driving around today I took count of the Mustangs and Trans Ams/Firebirds I saw.

52 Mustangs- 43 were chicks and outta 43, 38 looked under 25, and of the 43, 32 had cell phones. Most were poorly taken care of.

18 Trans Ams/Firebirds- All guys between the ages of 18-60. No cell phones and all had extremely well taken care of cars.

This just means that more girls drive Mustangs in this area. You can veiw the results how ever you would like.

Hmmm...did I miss anything? Most likely yes butoh well.

Your field test probably would not pass polling standards or whatever, but Mustangs have been more associated with women than the other cars, next is Camaro. Tis truer beyond true that Trans Ams are the manlier between the itself and the Camaro.

I know my polling results wouldn't pass any offical thing, but it was to show a point and it looks like Talentless caught it.

Not sure on the Saleen pak though.

Saleen's

S281 with supercharger: $40,299.00 for the coupe. $44,299.00 for the convertable.

S281-E: $60,190.00 for the coupe. $64,089.00 for a covertable.

SR- $158,000.00

you should have asked me, talentless :D

The Trans AM and Saleen S281 are pretty close in price. The T/A comes in at about $34,835 and the S281 is $33,999 (both MSRP).

Their 1/4 mile times are similiar as well, with the T/A at 14.1 sec @ 101.0mph and the S281 14.1 @98mph

However, the S281 handles better with a .93g lateral accel, and the T/A at .85g (but this may be due to what tires come stock).

The S281 comes to rest quicker from 60-0, taking 109ft, while the T/A takes 123.

As for some raw power stats on the S281: 4.6L 285HP

These stats are for the S281, without supercharger. The supercharded version of the S281 costs $40,299.00and has 365HP. and the S281-E (supercharged) has 425HP and costs $60,190.00.

i dont know that much about the trans am, but the Saleen uses its own variable suspension. and they run Pirelli P7000 tires, stock. 255/35ZR18 (Front) 265/35ZR18 (Rear)

I rode in my friends brothers Trans Am. It was new. Collectors Edition. We went driving around. And guess what we came up on at a light? A Mustang. It wasn't a real one though, at least I don't think. So we pulled up next to him. I told my friends bro to rev the engine. He did and the Saleen guy did the same. I said to the Saleen guy, "whats the retail on one of thoses?" :D He laughed and said more then that POS Trans Am. I looked at him and laughed. I looked at my friends bro. He knew what to do.

Both cars floored it. WE were off. The Trans Am won cause the Mustang guy paseneied out. It was great :D

also the t/a handing is by far a lot better than mustang .
if you buy a mustang you have to upgrade the bracke sistem+buy a new set of bars for stability ( if you no do that don't try to make a turn in 40mph+ )

Also, I'd compare a Saleen to a Firehawk. More appropriate.

generally i agree you should compare stock to stock, and tuned to tuned. but the prices are on par, and i dont think it would be too fair to compare a stock T/A to a 25k Mustang.

and like i said, i dont know that much about T/A's

the 2002 gt mustang has a lateral acceleration of .82g, and the T/A has a .85g

that doesnt sound "by far, a lot better than the mustang".

Well, that depends on what that .03 translates into, it might mean 5-10 mph more speed through a sharp corner, and so on.

I've only ever rode in both cars, never drivin them. If I get a chance, which I should. I will drive them and see what I think is better.

once i was driving a mustang and i made a turn in 40mph the car
make a slide in mid of street.
me was so mad about that because i allways do the same move in the hiunday scoop ( belive it or not )
since that time i call the mustang the beast (cuz is like a horse with no training).

hey i know you think i'm a mustang hater but i'm not
the last nite i was looking in a few cars sites and i found somethings good about mustang.

i see mustangs with a 289-302-boss 302-even351( this one had a 5.7 ltr)
and the leaders shelby 350gt-500gt+429 the last 3 cortessy of cobra father c.s.
