^Yeah they can become real nice daily driver oldtimers. Very sturdy car and mechanics.

I still don't know how (classic racing, original restoration, hot rod- custom) and how far I going to restore it.

Hi-end restoration would be a bit too much on a car like this (complete acid bath and galvanization), but it will get a proper restoration.

More now on the first post.

Skyline arrives next week at the docks.
Yeeaaayyy!!!!
The wait is almost over. Few weeks now...

On the volvo front, i think I decided how far I will take it:
Body gets air sanded (done myself) and either the car will get:
- historic race car (with FIA certificate)
- historic race car (without FIA, less mods : seats, race fuel tank, extinguisher)

Keep cool, the last days will seem very long.
You never know what might happen:

You sir are a cruel cruel man .

Good looking Volvo there and I'd love to get my hand's on a R33.

@ Vince : I thought about that since the fraitor near New Zeeland sunk ;)

The ship has passed the main hazards (pirates, and not the internet ones). Now all should be good (knocks on wood)

@Nish : Thanks.
So much pictures will come when my car park is ready :D

The Volvo Amazon brings back childhood memories.

One of my friend's dad loved that car. He always drove one and he had a wrecked one in the garden, we always used to play in it. We even did a car chase with an Amazon once (someone lost his petrol tank cap and we wanted to give it back to the person), that car was fun ... hope it will give the same fun to you.

Thanks Vince,
Yes everybody I showed the Volvo to had some anecdote to tell about it, quite a popular car.
Can't wait for spring to start the restoration of it

Dude the Volvo is in quite good shape!! I'd be all about a V8 transplant and all that, but maybe all you need is a nice restored street car with Minilites. I'll for sure check out the progresss you make on that thing.

It is possible, would go with a V6 because of the weight, but I will hold on to the stock 2 liter engine.
Up to 2.2, double weber, little tweaks .... up to 160 hp in a car that is 1070kg should be fun.
And the sound of a double weber carburator is just :drool:
The car looks good from substance, but as always you never know what is hiding beneath the paint.

The Skyline should be here in a month time, and the volvo will be started in 2 months or so (need more time)

Thanks Cano & Svx

^What was I thinking giving those dates??

The new garage should be finished in a month, than I can start work on the Volvo. So actually the Volvo timing is still right.
The skyline though,...
Well normally this week I will be making the decisions on the tune ups.
The car is nearly finished for homologation (lights, papers,...).
Then depending on how fast the parts can be delivered it will take at least another month or 2 before it get it's license plates.
But we are getting there, slowly but on constant rate.

(the hold up is mainly due to the importers health condition, which isn't really good as he had a relaps, but I knew that from the beginning, so I can't complain on that. His expertise and reputation outweighted that part)

So I understood you were able to touch your machine? You know it is real.
But you did not share that with us :grumpy:

No I wasn't up yet, though I plan to make a trip up when I get the time, as it takes longer then initially expected.
It's a 4 1/2 hour trip up and the same again, so a whole day gone for visiting a car.

But the car is for real, a forum member went up today (lives a lot nearer than me). Some photos again in the first post.

Enjoy

Looks great!

You should go and see her man, i still remeber sitting in my R33 GTR V-spec for the first time.
i must have been the most happiest man in the world lol, even though i knew it was going to take some months before i could actually start driving it. then you start to realize its for real and a dream coming true :P

damn cant wait to have my gtr back, weather is getting better now. shes getting prepped for this year, new MOT, wheel allignment, some mapping changes and she will drive even better then before.:)

heh cant wait to piss off some porsche drivers :D

Yes I really need to go up, but I fear that the waiting becomes even longer than, because then waiting will be hell after I've seen it. Will look to go up though.

Good luck with yours 👍

Tune ups list came in.
now the joy of playing with the budget and info on the parts.

Ohh well, choices, choices, choices....

Just stumbled in, and i love the cars! good luck fixin em up! That Volvo is gorgeous, (and i feel it will be even more gorgeous when fix it up completely)

Thanks.
Volvo owners gotta love Volvo's ;)
I can invest in the volvo as it was quite a cheap find and in good enough shape.

But the real eyecandy from volvo is this
volvo-1800e-1972-front.jpg

but would have costed a lot more.

ey, did you read about this?

henk from Pro import posted it today on the skylineforum

"A few corrections on the above info is needed.

1. Haltech ECUs have diagnosis features and can monitor each sensor seperately and simultanesly.

2. Haltech maximum mapping resolution for fuel, ignition and boost are 32 x 32 (1024 cells)

3. Link has 20 x 22 (440 cells) mapping resolution for fuel and ignition tables (like Apexi PowerFC, topic starter)

4. Only Haltech has Engine Protection module.

5. Not all Link ECU's but some model Link ECU has basic knock detection (no short term nor long term strategies available). "

thought it would be helpfull info for you ;)
especially the amount of cells, therefor you can fine tune it alot better with the haltech ecu.:)

yes I read go4it comment, so that's henk ;)

It is quite a big change, I have to agree and I am really tempted by the Haltech but it will blow my tuning list or budget apart.

* Link ECU
Estimated price for ECU, fitting, sensors and mapping 1900-2300 euro

* Haltech ECU
Estimated price for ECU, fitting, sensors and mapping 2800-3200 euro

When you look at the list, it is a good setup. good breathing mods, quite good ECU, good suspension, and good brake upgrade for original caliper (EBC plates, ferodo pads + lines+ liquid).

I would need to cancel one thing on the list to get the haltech. And I choose these mods for homologation so later I can change some pieces for better ones without needing a fresh homologation (like the apexi downpipe for a better one).

Then there is the other problem, the car beeing at Johan's, he would need to take it up to proimport (he has haltechs but agreed that it is overkill, so he probably more confortable mapping Links then Haltechs), all before it has plates.

Could become messy.

BUT...
For the next years I will be happy with around the 400ps bracket. But later (when engine has around 130000km) I will come up to proimports (abbey beeing to much of a hassle, travel wise) and then they can rebuilt the engine, some stronger internals will be added, and then I could go with the Haltech.

That is the plan for the moment.

I could uprate the budget a bit, but that will leave the volvo on idle for some time.

as I said :choices choices choices :D

tell me about it lol.

im just back from pi. seems my turbo's are near the end of their lifes...:grumpy:

had to make alot of choices. but its going to get awsome....:)

lets just say 2860-5's ;)

as already mentioned, Lulz @ porsche

Got some timetables to play around,

as mentioned the car will be getting a complete german TUV, which makes it easier for homologation here in Luxemburg.

German TUV : around 1 week
Luxemburg Homologation : 4-6 weeks.
+ delivery time and install of the tune ups will eat up some weeks too.

So the odysee is still far from complete.

But we'll get there and then
dr-evil.jpg

muhahhahaha at porsches

^ ;)

Well still on the suspension.. soon I will have made my choice (need to !!!)

But got the car a dandy steering wheel:
4mtvvch.jpg

sweet!
i want a diffrent steering wheel aswell, mine is a bit worn out.a nardi wheel is very nice! but first lets get her running again...:)

oh btw, i have öhlins under my GTR, i think its great, not too stiff. and makes the car handle very well.
you really can tell the diffrence when you adjust the damper settings, from comfy to rock hard, its all possible. i love them :) you can easeally set it to a softer setting when you need to drive in daily traffic for some time, and very sporty if you want to have some fun on a circuit or something.

Peter de Beus, a time attack driver from the netherlands (R32 GTR V-spec Autosaurus) said he loved the way my r33 handles. pretty cool =) he did some test drives with my R33 to diagnose the shuffling problem with henk of pi next to him, so he had some time to play with it hehe.

It's up for sale:
http://www.vehiclepassion.com/2012/03/22/the-amazing-788-hp-1969-volvo-is-up-for-grabs/
if you have 110 000 bucks too many
Also was on SEMA 2006
http://www.cartype.com/pages/3946/volvo_amazon__1967

When searching Amazon it's one of the first things you find ;)

But take a look at this (series fan will know it)

What's nice about the volvo is the first years work. It doesn't need a budget. (stripping, sanding,...). Lot to do though on it.
That and the skyline will keep me busy in the next years :D

@Gt4rulez:
that wheel in the end won. It was between the Momo Track and a Sparco one. This one looks the nicest I found after lots of consideration.

still waiting on the suspension part. If I can get the bilstein's I take them. "Lifetime warrenty" on them. Only question will be pillowball mounts or not ? Brushes will all be change against Powerflex ones.
If I can't get them, then it's between Cusco's and ohlin's.

Going to visit the car, when he gots all the pieces together (tune ups).

Now off for a custom plate:

probably someting RB ..26..

Custom plates inquired:
Got 6 options, now gonna see which one is still free:
1. RB 0260
2. RB 2600
3. RB 0026
4. RB 2633
5. RB 2568 (ccm3)
6. GT 8033

Only got my 4th choice granted as custom plate.
So, RB (race breed) 2633 it is

And as FYI, I did go wit Cusco's Zero 2e with 12/10 kg/mm

All parts are ordered since beginning of the week. Normally 10 days delivery time. So in about 2 weeks I go up (7 hour roadtrip to see the car for 30-60 mins rofl)

Normally now it should go relatively fast.

Parts: 2 weeks.
Install : 1-2 weeks
Tuv: 1 week
LUX-homologation: 4-6 weeks (hopefully sooner than later)
Delivery-Day : Happiest bud on the planet
