ilikewaffles11's Toyotas

I love this car, looks amazing. It's looks restored and mint, but then it also looks like the owner actually drives it and uses it (which you do :D), not just storing it in his garage and only bringing it out when it's sunny. Massive props. šŸ‘

Thanks! Not much use in owning a car just to stare at it and wipe it with a diaper eh? :D

Always loved that Celica Supra. My dad had one not so long ago and it was the same colour too! His was auto and only had about 35,000miles on it.

Very nice! Got any pictures of it?

Gotta have the 5 speed though, my dad had a silver '85 with an auto (just sold it) and it just wasn't the same. It was still a nice car just not quite as fun to drive.

Autos rarely are. Never if we're talking pre mid 2000's slushboxes.

A stick shift can make even the most drab corolla engaging šŸ‘

I'll have to dig some out of my hard drive. It had the cloth interior instead of leather seats and a digital dash. It was about the 4th Celica Supra he had. When I was about 1 or 2 years old he had a bright red one and there's a photo of me stood next to it. I remember being sat in the back of one all those years ago. So it was pretty weird being able to drive it once or twice.

Very cool! That '82 L Type parts car we had also had the digital dash board, I REALLY wish mine had that, they look awesome. My dad also owned a beater black MK2 when I was a kid he bought in pieces, I guess that's where my love of them stems from. :D

I know, very retro! Yeah I guess that's where my love stems from. It's one of the very few Toyotas I'd own.

What tyres are you running on it? I've spied that the fronts are BF Goodrichs, not sure about the back.

I agree! Really wish it'd be a bit easier to swap the digital one into it, but seems like a lot of wiring I'd rather not do...

Currently has Falkens on the rear. Pretty terrible tire, useless in the rain as I've said.

Ah well in that case, I'd keep the analogue one :P

Oh does it? My dad did buy a BFG radial for his with the intention of putting a full set on but sold it before he could buy 3 more. It's still sat in the garage is that tyre.

You thought about widening the rear end? Always thought the rear wheels were too thin.

Yup, might get a pair of those for the rear. I believe the one guy at work had a set of them on his Supra as well.

Might be a stupid question but... What exactly is the benefit of doing that? Asides from it looking a bit cooler maybe. :P More traction I'd assume?

Aw man, now I gotta ask whose IS that is. :dopey:

Well that was my moms old daily driver, which then was my dad's bad weather driver when she got her old 325Xi wagon, and now it's for sale. :(

I ****ing LOVE that car. That's essentially what I learned to drive in. That's the very first car is ever driven, first car I've ever taken a road trip in, and whatnot. Unfortunately, no more room for it anymore so it's gotta go. :(

Here's some better pictures of it though! From when I drove up to a state park while I still was on a permit.

Damn.. I want that Altezza so bad D= they're so over priced here in NZ.. people asking 10k minimum despite flaws.

Wow really? You can pick one up here for RELATIVELY cheap. My dad's selling ours for $6500, and that's with only about 175K miles and absolutely no other problems.

I'd imagine they're pretty easy to pick up over there? They're pretty rare here as you have to import them. I'll be stuggling to find replacements for mine when they become worn out.

I'm not sure if there's any performance benefit, it vastly improves the looks of it though!

Yea I'd assume so, I've never really looked into purchasing them, but they can't be hard to get.

I'd have to see a picture first, but it sounds like it'd look pretty good. :P

I had a dig thru my hard drive last night and theres only a few photos of when he first bought it before he put spacers on the rear and had the wheels refurbed. I'll find one somewhere.

You'd be much better off buying a new set of rims with a wider rear size and sticking some Archillies ATR Sport 2's on if you wanted a wider rear - why waste money on spacers when with the right tyre set up you could do it for real and have a significant grip increase..

I promise you, you won't find better grip/money.

It's cheaper to put spacers on. Plus my dad isn't bothered about major performance in corners. His excuse is that you'd never take it on track all the time.

Of course it is, but 100+ bucks blown on spacers could be put towards actual performance improvements. I don't see the point personally.

Of course, I'm hitting the mountains daily so my driving isn't going to be the same as your "Average joe" so cosmetic stuff like spacers make even less sense to me.

I can't remember how much they were. But he was never bothered about performance tyres so they made more sense. There's hills around here too but he barely drove it on them.

Different strokes.

I'm not really looking for more performance honestly, plus I'd like to keep the wheels stock. I mean as is, the car is absolutely fantastic to drive so I don't really think it's necessary. Even with the crappy tires, as long as it's not wet, you still have plenty of grip. You'd have to be REALLY pushing it to let the back end loose.

Got a wash today, and I learned never to wash it in the sun again. Now it's got spots all over. :grumpy: Will detail it a little bit this afternoon.

Pop ups FTW

Shamless double post. Finally decided to put the Japanese license plate I have on it. However, the plate wouldn't fit, the holes were to low down in the plate. Had to drill a new set of holes into the top if it. So I took the bracket off, and my dad held it in place while I marked it with a screwdriver. Then he used a punch to start a hole in the markings, and I drilled the holes out. All in all, maybe twenty minutes to do it. It's a little crooked, but not to bad. Looks awesome either way. :D

So slight update, today I put the new tires on the rear. Got a matching pair of BF Goodrich tires, and took the two wheels that were sitting in the back room at work which I'm pretty sure were originally on the car, they seem to match the fronts, and put the new tires on them. So now I have slightly nicer wheels on the back, and better tires. Shoutout to my dad for being a swell guy and buying me a new pair of tires. :D

As of now, I've already racked up about a thousand miles on this thing. :D Really enjoying driving it, couldn't ask for a better car.

Also topped off all of the fluids and made sure nothing is leaking for it's long road trip to Carlisle Imports and Kit Nationals on Saturday, then Cars and Coffee on Sunday. Unfortunately the weather this week is iffy, so hopefully it'll be clear Thursday evening so I can wash it, vacuum it, and CLEAN THE DAMN GLASS. Then I'll have to drive something else on Friday...

And uhhhh, here's a pic. With the IS300. Which isn't mine. But I wish it was.

You gotta save that Lexus, man.

Believe me, I want to. I REALLY want to.

My dad doesn't WANT to sell it, but there's not really any room anymore. Honestly it's just been sitting out front at work for the past month or so with a for sale sign and was only used for maybe three days recently. Unfortunately we don't have a use for it anymore. :(
