Looking at that picture makes me think. I wonder if I could get away with that with my car?

I reckon you could get away with that with your car. If you do we'll need pictorial proof though :P

This....

And more Datsuns....

I'm definitely going to do it now. Just as soon as I can find a Darth Vader Helmet. My buddies are going to go look for storm trooper helmets too, so they can cruise around with me with storm trooper helmets. Trust me, pics will be plenty.

Cause the car looks questionable as hell? Or because you think we are being sarcastic?

And wow, that forum is just.... fail. Anyone that puts this in their sig...

Needs to quit the internet.

Agreed. But it's mad tyte yo!

I think both of you have gotten a little carried away in this thread and are screwing around just to screw around and get people riled up, now that you've found out it works. Toddlers do that. We already had a discussion about appreciating different styles, whether it's your style or not.

That said, that VW is totally not my style, but if I had the opportunity to be friendly with a girl who rocked it, I think I'd make a few compromises, if you know what I mean. I'd roll up to the track in that sport utility with everyone looking at me like I'm a fool, then proceed to pull my V710s out of the hatch and show them up in my raced-out Civic. Yes. Or the Datsun up there. That's pretty baller.

Needs moar Mk II GTI!

(My brother's got one... Kinda dumped on the ground. He bent a wheel, so he's looking for new ones. I must implant ideas in his head!)

I got crap for questioning someone posting a lime green show car with a HUGE tv in the trunk. People insisted that "It's just an opinion, if you don't like it, move on."

So now I'm doing the same. The only look I like is one that is functional. EVERYTHING else is questionable, and thus, in my eyes, a form of rice. Whether it's the car itself or the mentality of the driver in thinking that their unfunctional mods are somehow any better than the next ricer's unfunctional mods. They're all the same ricers/hard parkers to me. I'm using my freedom to express my opinion just like I was told to when I questioned someone elses'.

It's just my opinion, move on.

Did you see what she looked like in that pic for the car, with her driving it? Umm, I'd pass on that hard. But if it floats your boat

Its okay, Keef is just being Keef. Any attempt at girl > logic.

"Yo, bro, we made this thing ten times cooler by punching the logo out of the middle. And I mean at least ten times..."

"Werd dawg"

They aren't exactly taking themselves (or their cars) seriously though.. :)

Leonidae
I feel sorry for those poor Mk2 GTi's..

Why? Not that I'm dumb, I just want to hear some arguments to back up your ridiculous statement..

I don't feel sorry for them (though I do prefer standard ones... and I'm certainly not keen on stretched tyres), but I hate (and I do mean to use a word that strong) those stupid plastic car-bra devices on them. Guaranteed to ruin absolutely any car that they're on.

You can't even use the excuse that it protects the paintwork any more, as there are plenty of companies around that can apply a transparent film to the paintwork now that's virtually invisible until your eye is an inch away from the bodywork yet protects the paint from stone chips, road grime etc.

EDIT: That white Jetta on Ronal Turbos further up is sweet though, nicely done. As is the Type 3 above it.

Because as they are, they look like aborted bozusoku-style projects. with some boxy, flared rally-style arches that rim-tyre combo could perhaps work, but as it is, it just looks like he ran out of daddy's funding in the middle of the project.

More or less standard cars (not any bodywork done) from the 80s look like they are funded by daddy to you? These cars had respectivly 335k and 375k km on them, and were not mint.. Just to clear up with the bra as well :)
The rest of the comments were okay, and I know you said "looks like", but 'daddy's funding'? Get out of here dude, you don't know anything here :)

And you've obviously seen cars like these in real life, because when the car comes towards you on the road, you get the point.

Nope, I'm afraid that I will never understand cars like that. if they would be regular Mk2's, I would be indifferent, but since they're GTi's.. those poor cars are blasphemy in my eyes. Thou shall not molest genuine GTi's.

You haven't been exposed to very much VW culture then have you... Slamming a car to the ground, find some outdated BBS wheels and stretch on tiny rubber and you've got yourself a typical tuned GTI. The ones posted aren't cases of bad execution, they all look like that. Waterfest and other monumental gatherings are nothing but VW culture. There probably isn't a bigger global cult following for any other brand like Volkswagen anywhere.

Leonidae make them sound like Ferraris.. They are basically just old Golfs with potent engines :) I don't quite see how he is molesting them either.. He sold them on to people that wrote them off (both the red and the dark grey are now).. I don't know what's worst, bolting on wheels and coilovers, or sending them off the road..

Mmmmm... Turbos.

If they weren't so expensive, I think my brother would go for a set. I found some used, but they're 5000 kilometers away... shipping would be a bitch.

Edit - This is what he's got now.

'92 GTI 8v. The current wheels are OZ Volcanos. I think.

Old Golfs are classics, and GTi's are getting more and more rare. For example Mk2 is FWD equivalent of Mk1 MX-5 in terms of performance and weight. I'm more of sleeper-style supporter.

I always thought Ronals were lame VW nerd stuff. If you want to be legit but still have that look, call up some local rally garages. There's a good chance they've got a stack of battered wheels. Put a little work into 'em and you've got some crisp OZ wheels. A friend of mine runs OMP rally wheels on his Jetta - turns an purple IDI mkIII into a sweet ride...
