I've decided that a low ride height combined with super-stiff springs might work well on a proper big track. Most of them, like Laguna Seca or VIR, are pretty smooth and well taken care of, and have relatively wide, sweeping corners. On a track where you're going over 100 the whole time a lower center of gravity might be more important than a good suspension geometry, since they usually use springs so stiff that it hardly moves anyway.

But it wouldn't work very well on the street, or for the kind of driving I like to do.

Dude needs to get off the Azenis bandwagon though. There have been better--more expensive--alternatives for years now. I mainly bought them because they were cheap.

Also, I would drive that every day. If I had a girlfriend, she would ride in it too. I'd make sure the exhaust is so loud that I wouldn't be able to hear here bitching.

And then the roll center of the car is way under the ground somewhere because the control arms are pointing upwards.

No.

I really hope that guy raises the car up for the track, otherwise he pretty much loses all credibility for owning and tracking a car of that calibre just so he can be "legit" and completely failing at suspension setup.

I forgot the technical stuff. Because of the angle of the arms and the low roll-center, the car acts like an upside pendulum and the roll rate becomes unstable and difficult for the springs and sway bars to control. But if the lower control arms have an angle even slightly above horizontal everything it all operates relatively normal.

I don't believe they make roll-center adjusters for the rear of our cars. That would require cutting and chopping the subframe to move the LCA mounting points much lower. Even the front RC adjusters only lower the arms about an inch, whereas that car has been lowered probably 3-4 inches from stock.

Please, less whinging about suspension. It's not even that people own a track ready car now,the debate is not whether it actually gets tracked, now it's "the car is track ready, it gets track bashed but that means nothing because his suspension isn't set up optimally".

Perhaps he lowered it for the photoshoot? Perhaps it matters not?

We have a thread for this kind of discussion. Post some sweet pics guys :)

Bloody Auszoku, that car isn't really boso. Some styling cues reminiscent of it but only mildly.

Australian police would have a field day with those oil cooler lines

By the time they are done with you they will make you feel like you were killing babies.

Every time I hear people complaining about the legalities and policing of modified cars in NZ I just think, at least it's not as bad as Aus (no offense meant).

I'm really torn right now. Either fix my SW20 or sell it as a shell and buy a corolla. I'd like an ae86 but I'd miss having a turbo...

I'm personally not only a big fan of rwd AEs but I'm also not overly concerned about SWs. So I vote AE86. Gogo 4AGE turbo.

Seen that flick before. Such a mean Rolla. And the dude is a pretty good wheelman + kudos for going for a skid in such a mint car, no missiles there.
