Imports

I believe that car has been sold by its original owner. At least, he was trying to sell it. I've never seen it with the bronze wheels, the tires that aren't stretched to perfection as the other guy used to do it, and with these plexiglass windows in the hard top. It never used to have those side windows.

You're quite the stalker aren't you? :) And such a nerd, haha :)

Those rims are dope!

I was looking at youtube videos of LS swapped imports, or just V8 swapped imports. I came across a few, they are pretty awesome IMO, though some don't seem like they should be making the sounds they are. But, I'm not really an import fan, if someone were swapping RB26 or SR/KA-20 motors into Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, whatever, I would think it would kind of ruin a good package, not to say those motors are bad, just that it takes away the V8 rumble you would expect from one of those cars.

But for certain imports, where the upkeep, or aftermarket may be expensive or limited, is it wrong to swap for a V8 in order to get power that could cost substantially more if the stock motor were built to an equivalent output? I'm not saying it's the best for every application, but if you could get a motor like an LS Chevy and swap it for a KA motor which weighs a little more, yet makes less power stock, would you do that?

I guess I'm just asking opinions of import fans, how do you feel about an import car getting a domestic power plant? Does that ruin the cool factor of the car, or is it cool because it's different? Or easy to maintain? Not trying to debate the different engines being cooler than another, just if it's widely acceptable or not haha.

If this is the wrong place for this, just use it for entertainment value if you find any, I think it's pretty cool.

I personally will always find it questionable to put such motors in imports, especially having a V8 in an R34 GTR (if it was a GTR from day 1) seeing as it comes with such a solid motor, capable of massive power and with plenty of parts on the market. There is just no need to put a V8 in most of these cars, as there's plenty of parts to be had. I find it just as wrong when going the other way, i was outraged when watching Tokyo Drift that the put the S15s motor into a Mustang body, it was just wrong! Part of the character of these cars is their hearts, and I think major engine swaps from completely different sectors dilutes the package, even if it actually improves performance.

Well, if they are putting V8's in imports, some day I will put a wankel or V6/I4 in a 'vette or viper.. :mischievous: why? because I can.

Well that's kinda what I expected. I just thought it was a cool idea, but I understand the feeling of how it could dilute the package. Like a Chevy swapped ford, or that s13 swapped Mustang in Tokyo Drift mentioned above, which was painful to watch.

I just thought it was cool, especially the TT LS1 swapped R34. I'm just a V8 fan, so it makes some cars like a Miata or 240SX more appealing to me. But I do respect the RB26 and what it can do, they are great motors from what I've seen and read about. There are plenty of motors to swap into cars, I read on some forum a person tried to swap a V10 Triton Ford engine into an R34 (massive/heavy/why?), not cool, another guy bought it and put an LS3 in the car instead, much better choice IMO. Also it's kinda neat to see how those cars would perform with an 8, even though it does not work with the less is more thing, it's just more is more haha.

Do a quad rotor Viper haha. I have to go search for swaps like that now.

Somehow the sound of a V8 engine in an Import just does not sound right to me.
With the twin turbo R34 drift car, it was the only one that actually sounded good because it was twin turbo'd, and the blow off valve was what it took to make this a favorable swap.

All the other cars in the videos just didn't cut it for me from a sound perspective.
The 944 was a joke and when he got on it, all you heard was a bunch of V8 racket but nothing that would make me believe in the video that the car was going fast.

There's nothing like the sound of a good inline 6 or inline 4 that is bouncing off of the rev limiter with turbo spool you can hear a mile away.
To me, that is the symphony I'd rather hear because in V8 terms, that symphony would be more equated to a three piece band.

Ironically, the motor in that S15 in Tokyo Drift, if I recall correctly, is an RB26 from a GT-R.

I didn't jump on the SR motor wagon to early, part of me thought there was an RB involved somewhere but I wasn't confident enough with it.

Regardless, questionable modification to me.

yeah.. and unlike in OHV's, the whole valvetrain won't be wrecked because there isn't any. no pushrods, camshaft, valve lifters etc.. properly maintained wankel will do 9k rpm all day.
