Scotland loose
Yeah, we need to tighten up....

But that's not really news is it? At least we only lost from 2 excellent free kicks against Italy. It was a much better performance from what we have been doing under Berti "Bassett" Vogts. The main problem against Italy was that we never looked like scoring.

Yup Pirlo is a damn awesome player. I dunno who you guys have upfront these days, does Dickov still play for the national team?

I forget how it works, do the top two go though? Or is it the top one and then the other two have playoffs?

Only the top teams in each group go the World Cup, but the top two also goto the African Cup of Nations, with a few playoff spots for lower teams.

That's debateable! He was injured for that one as was McFadden. Our strikeforce against Italy was taken from the English First divison. We had Wolves' Kenny Miller and Wigan's Lee McCulloch playing on Saturday, although Lee was playing as a left-sided midfielder.

The worrying thing is that if you take all the Scottish strikers, Dickov and McFadden are the ones playing in the highest league, and we don;t really have anyone else. Dickov is playing every week, but McFadden is only a fringe player at Everton. Big Dunc has retired. There was mention of Walter Smith trying to get Dunc back but he didn't want to. Smith talked David Weir into returning after he retired from the national squad.

The good news is that we looked more organised at the back, we just need to get McFadden in there and scoring.

The main problem with Scottish football is that Rangers and Celtic have too many foreigners. We need rules to limit the number of non-scots in a league squad. Any decent Scottish player goes to Rangers or Celtic only to find themselves warming up the bench! It's sort of the same in England with Chelski and Le Arsenal but at least there are other good teams and good players in England to create a good national team. Up here, we have the big 2 and then there is no-one. Practically any one of the other 10 premier teams have the capability to finish 3rd, miles behind Rangers and Celtic or Celtic and Rangers.

Fortunately fo England is that alot our best players are created in the smaller clubs.

My team West ham : Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand
Everton : Wayne Rooney (even though Everton are flying high now, they weren't when Roo was starting out)
Man City : S W Phillips
Charlton : Jermain Dafoe
Totenham : Sol Campbell

Only for these players to go onto better clubs and blossom into world class players, playing on the highest stages competing for the highest honnours. 👍
Except Dafoe who will move onto one of the giants (sorry Totenham) :) And Phillips who hasn't moved .....yet.

It's kinda wierd that he Defoe went to Charlton, seeing as he used to live in Beckton and then after he went to west ham. Oh well, he now only plays a few miles down the road from me and opposite my old school.

He went to the same school in East London as my mate did. 👍
