So, what do you all think?

Politically and socially?

Where I live there as still people harrassed and assaulted for it.

So, your thoughts?

politically: there should be such a thing as equal rights and everyone should have the freedom to decide for himself whom he or she wants to marry.

socially: whatever floats your boat. as long as nobody is hurt, you can do what you want.

I have no problem with it, and still don't see why someone would have a problem with it and be in the KKK. Or and extremist version of the Black Panthers anyway.

I little story from the south.

I (my neighbour, but lets just say "I" because it's eaiser to type) was in Missouri 2 months ago and stopped by a local mall. It was just like any other mall, except for one small, glaring detail. I stopped in the foodcourt to get a bite to eat, and when done I took my tray to the garbage can as usual, dumped my emtpies/uneaten in the trash, and put it on the stack above the garbage can. That''s when I was approached by a big fatarse cop who stared me in the eye and went "Now whatcha think'y'r doin' there, boy?", and responded with "Um...putting my tray away...duh?". Well, wrong answer, apparently. The cop starts layin into me about how I'll put these (black) women out of work, by doing their job for them. It didn't occur to me (my neighbour) at the time, but when I looked around I noticed they were all black. Quite frightening indeed.

But, the worst has yet to come.

We stopped in a local restaurent around 10:00am, and it was just your basic little truckstop restaurent. There was a healthy mix of people in the crowd and I thought maybe it was just....*ahem* employment attitudes? No, apparently not. About 10 minutes into my meal and black man with a white girl walked in. But how did I know? All the truckers stopped eating, stopped drinking and smoking, stopped talking, and stared. They just stared. They all looked like they were pinching themselves to keep from attacking the poor fellow. Luckily his girlfriend immediately noticed they weren't welcome and suggested they leave, in case some redneck attacked them.

I'm still not sure what the point of the story is, but it's pretty amazing that this sort of racism still exists. In Portland, there are interracial couples all over and nobody cares, I don't quite understand American culture.

Its all good . :) Why limit your choices due to stupidity ? then again...go for it ...more for everyone else.. :)

We're all people, right? So I don't see a problem with it. As a matter of fact, having sex with someone from another continent is a lot healthier than having sex with your brothers and sisters, which the KKK rednecks do that live around Swift's place.

I don't even see how it's possible to have a completely 100% non-interracial marriage, certainly not in America—very few people in America are 100% anything.

Where I live it's perfectly common. I'd even say it's the norm.

Wow, it's fairly common around here. But far from the norm.

Eventually, in another few thousand years, we will innevitably all be the same species (if we last that long) anyway, so let's hurry it up then!

Well, you should know my thoughts on it already: you're consenting adults, right? Then it's none of my business.

being of mixed race myself, this is a bit of a sore subject. i was born and raised in the uk so my values, beliefs, and history are all white, except my skin is brown. ive lost count how many times a girl has said she liked me, but turned me down because her father hated blacks. i could never understand the reasoning. sure it hurt, because it made me feel like an outcast, but bigotry is rarely inclusive. nowadays, people come up to me and say that im white. it laughable!
when i think back, all my relationships have been inter-racial, ive never been out with a girl of my own ethinic origin. mixed race girls are very rare in the uk.
in this day and age, the colour of your skin shouldnt matter at all. i dont see why it should cause a problem. if someone doesnt agree with inter-racial relationships, then they dont have one, simple as that!

true love is colour blind.

Boy, guess much of the world's different – nobody give's a rat's ass around here. My orthodontist's assistant is a young white lady married to a black man, and nobody thinks that's odd in any way at all. I'm a mutt myself—white dad, asian mom—and nobody here cares. (I only care because asian moms are difficult to deal with. ;)) I've never even personally met a white supremacist – in all seriousness, race virtually a nonexistent issue here, except occasionally some of the blacks will hold a double standard and accuse racism where there is none. Please don't accuse me of blanket stereotyping – I said some, and it does come from personal experience, because right now the principal of my school is getting sued by this one black girl who claims that he didn't do enough to curb racism at my school, which infuriates me because race was never an issue until she made it one (by lying and saying that she was clubbed while walking to school, which is impossible since she lives 10 miles from the school). And don't even get me started on the Nation of Islam, which always manages to make racism where none exists.

Anyway, sorry, that wasn't the point of the thread at all. Continue on.

A lot of asian girls really like white Aussie guys, for obvious reasons. Friendly, respectful, and better 'equipped'... Hmm that wasn't too dodgy was it?

I have no problem with interracial marriage at all. Its a non-issue here in Aus.

Here in London, it's quite normal, and attitudes have mellowed alot over the last couple of decades I would say... but there are still some parts of the UK where you would get a hard time being a mixed race couple...

For my £0.02, I'm strongly in favour of interracial marriage, as I believe that a couple who love each other enough to commit to each other for the rest of their lives, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, whether they are mixed race, same sex, or whatever...

It's funny you mention this. There are such weird views on this around the world. In my case, I am a European mutt. I have English, German, French, Irish, Scottish, and Russian blood. My wife has African, Native American, and French Creole blood. I can trace my ancestors to the Mayflower and she is a member of the Seminole tribe.

When we were first dating, we would notice certain disapproving looks that some would give us, others would give approving looks. We live in the Washington DC metropolitan area, so there is a good mix of people and a good deal of interracial relationships. We haven't really run into anything seriously negative around here. But if you get twenty miles away from where we live, things change drastically. Everyone sees us as black or white. But if they would just look at themselves, I bet that they would see such mixes as what we have in our blood.

I never really set out to find a woman that was a different background than me, we just seemed to find each other and things have worked out quite well ever since.

On a side note: We have high hopes for our future children. Have you ever noticed how many of the most beautiful actors/actresses/models are of a mixed heritage? And not just black/white, but especially mixed asian women...they are gorgeous.

Because non-white Aussies can't be friendly, respectful, etc? Do Asian girls like white Aussie bigotry as well?

On Topic:
Being a Black man married to a Filipino woman .......

I could care less about color/ethnic background you are. It's all about love!

You have heard the expression 'love is blind' right?

It all depends on what someone is used to, how they were raised, and what they believe/perceive......

When I first met my wife, she was apprehensive about me meeting her mom because I am black and her mom was wary of black men. Apparently she believed we were all hoodlums and no good. Plus my wife's ex-boyfriend before me was black and did not give a good impression to her.

Everything is cool is now though. It seems that 'I' get a pass with my mother-in-law because I'm 'light-skinned'. My wife's ex is darker than me.....

As a black man, I still hold that grudge against her..how can you judge me without knowing me?

Love is blind!

You can't blame them. If you don't know any people of a certain and only heard bad things about them it is understandable that they also develop a negative feeling about them. You should prove people wrong. Hell, even skinheads can become friends of a black man, as long as they see with their own eyes that they were wrong. Just watch American History X, though of course that isn't a reality story but I wouldn't doubt that it happened in real life.

About that Carlton Banks, yeah I though of him immediately when I read your post ZAGGIN. :)

[edit] american history x is an excellent film by the way (i have it in my collection).

i was told that a friend of mine is work was a racist (he hated blacks), but he was always a good friend to me. he was always willing to help me no matter what. i didnt find this out until after we had become friends, though it didnt change my opinion of him, in fact i respected him more. because he saw me for who i was and not just by my skin colour.

I have been on the sharp end of that stick.
My loving mother went to great lengths to ensure that my speech, and values are "upper middle class".
Because I "sound" white. Many people assume that I am, until they meet me.
Lost one of my favorite girlfriends by the simple expedient of meeting her father.
Her mom loved me.

Been married to a beautiful woman of mutiple European heritage (white) for the last 23 years. Have met enlightened people, curious people, and a few downright stupid people.
But mostly, I married a woman that I happen to love very deeply. She simply happens to be white.

I spent 5 years living in Tennessee with her (longest decade of my life), and an increasing number of mixed race children.
NO real hardcore Redneckism suffered. Mostly, curiousity. You wouldn't believe the number of nosy questions related to race that I have answered.

But, I figure in less than a generation, with the large number of miixed race families. Families that are "one race" will become the minority.

Thinking back on things, I'm actually kind of surprised that my whole family, right back to France, Switzerland, England, Scotland and Ireland were all white. Kind of boring, IMO.

Why would anyone see a problem with it? There really isn't a religion that denouces it, as far as I know, and it seems to be ok with society.

In fact my currect girlfriend (2 years or so) is Hispanic (real pretty too). My parents love her, her parents love me(her mom constanly feeds me real Mexican food and swear I've gained 10lbs.), there really isn't a problem with it. Plus I've dated girls of other races before, I have dated a black girl(she was from the Caribiean) and an Asian girl (She was from South Korea).

But yes interracial marriage is fine by me and I hope that if things go well I'll be asking my girl if she wants to get married next summer.

And since no body said it: My buddy dated a black girl for a while and he told me "Once you go black you never go back." Sorry I had to throw that out there to add a touch of humor .

You're inferring stuff I never said, and am shocked you did infer! Being positive about one kind of situation shouldn't infer anything about any other race/s that I didn't even talk about! I thought it went without saying that everyone generally get along really well... (just trying to dispell the bogan image white Aussies sometimes given).

If you want to have an argument about nothing, by all means... Mr. Assumption.
btw the comment was entirely a joke.:dunce:
My serious (real) position was later clarified with the comment:
"I have no problem with interracial marriage at all. Its a non-issue here in Aus."
which you conveniently ignored, in your quickness to have a go at me.

I know GTPlanet is pretty P.C. when it comes to what is and isn't rascist, you've drawn a damn long bow here.

If you live in Australia, you'll understand that race issues are pretty non-existent (I am actually amazed rascism still exists in parts of the world and people like you are so touchy about it still, looking for it where there is none...). We've moved past the overly P.C. world, and can make a few jokes without any real offence meant. Take a chill pill mate.
