Bravias have an screen saver …
Well, that may be, but it certainly doesn't need one.

In fact, for a while, Apple was referring to the "screen saver" as Screen Effects, because it doesn't "save" your screen at all. (If you want to make life easy for your LCD, then switch it off.) However, they went back to calling it a Screen Saver in a later update; I assume because people were freaking out about not having one. :P

I guess a screen saver would work on the whole screen..
It doesn't seem to me that the squares affect the pause menu ... That's quite clear on the JVN vid, from 1.04 on.

I got only audio on that video,is there some sort of registration to view it ?

LCDs don't need screen savers, and I seriously doubt a TV would have one built in, because it wouldn't know it was receiving a static image without some pretty sophisticated (read: expensive) circuitry; circuitry that an LCD display wouldn't even need, since it doesn't suffer from burn-in.

They can suffer from burn-in... kinda. They have an issue called "image persistance" where static images displayed for a long period of time (windows task bar, TV channel idents) can remain for a while after they have changed and the crystals can actually be permanently imprinted with the image if it's there for a significant amount of time (not very likely in the home).

Turning the screen off or having a screen saver does help prevent this.

I can see why a testing rig (which is what i presume that particular LCD was part of) at a 24/7 office like PD's would require a screen saver. We have a couple of LCD monitors at work which are always switched on and can't be used with a screen saver because it messes up the remote access function they're used for. They have very noticeable screen-burn where the OSX menu bar and some icons are.

Let's hope that means rain & time of day changes - I mean, since it will only take them 2 months or so to implement them into the game - what's the problem Kaz?

The framerate.

I mean here we have what is basically the best looking racing game on consoles. It's funning at 60fps with a resolution of 1080p. On top of that, it has 16 cars on the track (hopefully, current demos just have 10?) and also damage, and one excellent physics system. Now to be honest, that in itself is a technical marvel, and it's incredible that they've actually managed to make a game with those specifications.

Adding weather and time of day changes will not be difficult at all, however, adding weather etc and keeping the framerate stable will be a very difficult task. I think that's basically what Kaz was saying, in that hey we can do this no problem, but we're not sure yet because of how it might effect the quality of the game (in other words, the framerate).

They could free up a lot of horsepower by dropping the game from being 1080p to 720p. They could probably then add weather etc and put a fair few more cars on the track as well. I think they want it to be an technical show-off for the PS3 though, since there aren't many 1080p games around.

Edit: Regarding the "screensaver" I don't think it is. I remember in one of the videos they show someone sat infront of that TV driving around, and as they're driving the squares are still there moving around. If it was a screensaver that wouldn't be happening whilst the game was being played.

So are confirmed:
- day/night
- rain
- damage on all cars??

JVN interview's introduction has been updated and they now state that we will have the ability to :"courir sous la pluie", what really means drive while raining and not only on a wet track like Tsukuba in GT4.

Is there a link on youtube to the JVN video, it won't work for me there.
Yeah it won't work for me either! I'm using the ps3 browser and those from JVN are the only videos I can't watch.

It works just fine in Windows IE

And yes this is not an tv screen saver, it's clear that the menu butons don't have that efect.

Edit: I think that the car on suzuka is the R35 gt500 nissan

Yeah but my computer died a few days ago, I have no choice but to use the ps3 browser. Could someone please post a screenshot of the g-graph?

So that's 2 french sites confirming day/night racing and Rain.... Why can't the english speaking folk do so >_>...

It doesn't really confirm what many are hoping for. GT4 had tracks at night and had a wet track. What we are really hoping for is changeable weather and day/night transitions. Neither have been confirmed yet unfortunately.

That's what I was just about to post. We have raced at night and we have raced on wet tracks. We still need proper confirmation.
