Our team won the Daytona 24!

Lots of rain thru the night. Came in 2 rounds. Second round it rained for an hour before it was actually wet to the point to need rain tires. We were in the 3rd timeslot.

How many drivers were in your team and what were your stints like? I’m super interested in trying this one day.

We had 5 drivers on the team. We were operating on double stints anytime someone got in the car with 1 triple stints by 3 of us to fill out the schedule. I also jumped in the car to sub for one of our drivers who wasn’t confident in their wet weather driving. Total I did 3 double stints and a triple for a total of 255 laps. I did by quite a margin the most laps out of anyone on the team, we had 2 guys who did less than half of that.
Now last year we ran with 3 drivers, and every time someone got in the car, they did a triple stints.

Edit: Also should note, at all times, we had at minimum, 1 driver acting as a spotter to relay information to the driver like rival lap times and weather conditions. Also they were prepared and ready to jump in the car at any moment in the event the current driver had an equipment failure or disconnect.
We actually had one guy jump in, do one lap and then pit after his force feedback didn’t kick in. So the driver who was scheduled to run next, and had just started spotting took over.

Could only manage 7th in the 2nd split of the final time slot on my end. LMP2 side swiped us as we came out of the pit lane with just 25 minutes to go. We were running 4th at the time but I suppose it wasn't meant to be after a wild ride throughout the 24 that had us running near last in GT3 after hour 2.

We don't yet know the tolerance levels for cutting a driver from the race with this new system for connection issues. Hopefully it is suitably strict.

A video for those who didn’t read the latest dev blog. I’ll summarise below for the lazy:

  • Brand new ARCA cars with a new physics model, credits will be issued to players who have recently purchased the outgoing car
  • Updated art and physics for the Legends 34c
  • The first of a 2 phase update to the LMP2 and GTP class cars will be released in S2 2025. Phase 1 focuses on a reconstruction of the tyre model. Phase 2 will fix the hybrid system and bring it in line with the real life counterpart
  • Portland Internternational Raceway will make its iRacing debut
  • Further art updates for existing tracks will release beginning S2, with an initial focus on ovals
  • 3D curbing will be added to Jerez, Aragon, Sandown, VIR, Winton, Rudskogen, and Hockenheim. Barcelona and Road America may or may not be ready for S2
  • Debris refresh, including local debris cautions
  • The aforementioned Connection Flag system to be released as part of S2
  • The new and improved lighting model will debut in S2
  • A new Official Series page for the main menu UI. The new sim UI, however, will not be ready for release
Beyond Season 2, we should expect the following:

  • The new graphics engine is still chugging along. Recent advancements include support passes defined by shaders, improved culling, and support for array, cube, and 3D textures
  • Gen 4 NASCAR Cup cars are close to completion
  • Indycar and NASCAR Cup cars to receive pre-v10 tyre model, aero updates and associated advancements
  • Another Ferrari is in the works
  • Scanning of Adelaide was successful. Miami International Autodrome is progressing well
  • Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez has been signed

I'm not really liking the new UI. The design is ok but it needs to be way more responsive.

That sun was also really bad, I don't know why some people were defending that ****. I was doing SF at Suzuka and the glare coming off the track, curbs, paint and grass at 130R was just insane. It still looked weird when it was cloudy too, there were bright patches in odd areas of the track while everything else was dark.

The new UI has some great features, but it involves too many button presses to get to where you want.

Underrated feature - being able to see how many drivers are signed up per car class.

Yeah and the lighting is still a bit funky post patch. I was doing a SportsCar Challenge race in the rain last night and the spray looked like black smoke emitting from the cars ahead due to the fog in the air.

Just completed my first endurance race, the IMSA SportsCar Endurance at Montreal, and finished second!

I put my Mercedes GT4 on the front row, setting my best (dry) qualifying lap at the track all week. From there I spent the first 12 laps following the leader but a technical issue took him out of contention.

From there I was in a pretty lonely lead, aside from the LMP3 traffic. As it was my first attempt an endurance, I didn’t want to fuss myself over saving fuel or trying a split pit strategy, so after my first stop I found myself back in 3rd place.

Shortly after my first stop I received my first slowdown penalty for a slight cut on the final chicane while following second place, but I had the pace on him to get the position back not too long after that.

After getting back into second, I spent the rest of the stint closing the gap to the leader. I had closed the gap to about 1.5 seconds by the time the leader pit in for his final stop, then I retook the lead for another 4 laps.

My final pit stop didn’t go to plan, missing the pit stall by about half a car length and if it weren’t for that I would have come back out in the lead by about 4-5 seconds. Instead, I found myself directly behind the leader.

I followed the leader’s tail for 2 laps, and had a good few tenths on him. The win was looking very achievable, but I scored myself my second slowdown on that final chicane which put me about 6 seconds down on the leader. I hadn’t made that mistake at all during any of my multiple attempts at the Falken SportsCar Challenge races, so to get two in one race was a a bit of a bummer.

By the end of the race, I managed to close the gap to 3.7 seconds and well ahead of third. Despite my costly mistakes, I’m pretty happy with myself considering it was my first endurance race. I think I’ll be making this a regular part of my routine.
