Hate to embarrass myself, but that's my first paint scheme! I know it isn't good, but it was 15 minutes well worth it ;)

Its carbon fibre with lime green accents, and a Nike logo fail....

$50 a month? Is there a cheaper alternative? Just for painting cars seems a bit much to me.

Try Gimp, its a free program, and many of the top painters use it as their program of choice. IT doesnt have quite as many toolsas photoshop, but it's a good place to start. If you decide to go with Gimp I can link you some good tutorials to help you with painting basics.

for what, that link gives you all the outdated programs for free and they are perfect to doing simple things like painting cars

Please do. I've been pondering the idea of doing some of my oval cars. Would like to try some Ed Roth inspired ideas. He was a custom painting icon back in the 60's and 70's. Probably to late for most of this crowd to remember. It would be epic to turn loose a Rat Fink rat rod into the iRacing community. 👍

Heres a thread about using the standard iRacing RGB Templates, it's pretty basic stuff but it will give you a nice understanding of some of the tools in the program. I also recommend this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAsr0DnF7lY
The first 2 videos in the series will teach you how to use the paths tool, which can be used to create your own shapes. Don't bother watching the rest of them.

Other than that, it takes a lot of fooling around with the program to figure out what everything does. The magic ward will be your best friend early on, to help remove logos from their backgrounds.

For good, high quality logos http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ is great, it has awesome vector logos.

If you need help along the way, feel free to ask, someone here should know how to help!

Edit: Ah, now I see where your avatar comes from, thats some pretty cool work

Jav
Huh? Like Roush said! It's free! Well probably it won't be anymore when you get to read this...

Yes I checked the link and it had a price tag. Give me a little credit guys.

:edit: Well shave my nuts and call me baldy! When I checked the link from my phone it didnt show up. Checked it from work desk top and quess what? Yep.

Just hope it's still active when I get home in a few hours.

I got the Gimp program, loaded the iRacing templates to the patterns file. Now I'm lost. Need to watch some tutorial videos now. I could not do anything with it to get started.

I will be happy when my paint scheme is done!

After getting a hopefully rough draft, I really need someone to either design something for me or tell me who is worthy on iracing to design a scheme. It just seems the guy or kid I got to design it surely won't be up to the par I want even though I'm out $6 bucks.

The bases is Justin Lofton's scheme with mainly a sponsor change and different color accents. I will even tell you what I want is neon orange or the speed energy colors, wounded warrior project logo on sides instead of complete college and Speed Energy on both hood and bed with orange hood (bumper can be white without the little dip it has). I did contact the guy who made the discount tire one on the forums but haven't heard back.

Hey Jav, when I open those CS2 programs (particularly Illustrator) it asks me to register every time I open it. Did I do something wrong?
I also get a first time initialization every time I open CAD (free student version), so it won't let me add plug-ins to it either. Am I installing these things wrong?

The CS2 isn't actually free. Unless you've already purchased something from Adobe.

It was free for the day I posted it, I didn't pay for anything... Apparently it was just a one day deal.

I have been using Photoshop for about 13 years or so, I have CS4 and didn't upgrade to C5. CS4 was $1000.00 so I'll wait for the next version to upgrade.

If anyone has Photoshop and isn't sure how to use it I can make a tutorial on how to do so. I usually have something in the order of 20-30 layers. I think my Edmonton Oilers Corvette has about 38 layers.

cs6 is $600 I think

and gogatrs, I got it for free like jav said

CS6 isn't $600 :) If you were to double that you might be in the ballpark or maybe it depends what other products that ship with that. I can upgrade from CS4 for about $300 I believe. Each version that goes by your last full version the price rises. The last purchase I had was version 7.

How did you manage to get CS6 for free?

no, it's CS2 from Jav's post a few posts ago..... edit, just read the link, I must have caught it in time and that's why it's asking for registration everytime. Thanks for answering my question

edit, oh, I see you went for the extended version I assume
It'll probably not open in some amount of time after not registering
