Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

I haven't played it much, but when me and my dad wanted to do arcade duel I couldn't choose the Nurb.. What's up with that?

A six year wait, is too long. I wasn't dissapointed, I'm verry happy I have it finally, BUT, I wished there was more..

You unlock it in A-Spec mode, can't remember where though.

Every game is released with flaws, it seems that's way to go, F1, WRC game, Ops along with many more in recent years have all been released with problems and had to be patch withing days/weeks..

They have been an update on the 26th and another coming on the 1st. I expect in a month minor stuff ppl complain about will be sorted.

I don't think they will fix the unbeliveably crappy graphics of some cars/tracks. I mean that is PS2 quality (no sarcasm). Let's not talk about the frame rate drop...

And then there's this whole concept of b-spec. Is there anyone who thinks this is good? "Real driving simulator" ROFL

We deserve the taunting from Forza fanboys. We really do.

I am not dissapointed at all. I wanted a simulator for Ps3 and that's what I got. I've read lots of complaining about graphics, engine sounds, Not being able to add forced induction to certain cars, not being able to use certain tracks when you haven't earned them, etc.

This is a racing simulation game...the best on a console. Now let me start my rant...
Engine noise, really? The only thing I care about is when my tires start squealing and being able to recognize shift points. The only things you should be concerned about when racing. Not being able to buy wheels for certain cars? I really don't care how my car looks as long as it performs the way I want it to. Just like racing. Rain graphics, shadows and other graphic complaints. I want rooster tails and appropriately simulated driving conditions. Not being able to race certain tracks because you couldn't get the appropriate levels achieved... You shouldn't be allowed on the track because apparently you are not good enough.
Done. Now go turn all your driving aids off and race. This is not an arcade game.

I'm pretty much happy with the game (which anyway I'm just playing occasionally on my friend's playstation). The graphics are disappointing, they look worse than the prologue, and I believe that's not due to the weather effects, but rather to 3d implementation, which is most likely also responsible for the last delays. That's absolutely insane, since it is clear that the hardware is not capable of properly running 3d at those levels. I believe this is mainly sony's fault rather than PD's: trying to promote their 3d tvs, they bite off more than they could actually chew this time.
But all in all, the game is fun, the driving is freaking sweet, and I'm sure it'll deliver a good time for a lot of months. For sure, I started up with a 2002 toyota mrS (standard) and i found it particullary hard to distinguish it from most of the premiums, aside from the lack of cockpit view and the smoked windows.

I think I will rent or borrow this this game. :( Most of the comments I read here is everything I feared.

Edit: I think I will wait and see what DLC / patches bring. A shame, really but it seems like they HAD to get GT5 out before christmas. I think I would have preferred 6 months more of development.

Edit 2:
After getting this game, there's only a few things that dissapoint me.
1. Standard cars. Big big dissapointment.
2. The amount of A-Spec races. It seems like a fraction of previous games. I hope GT6 doesn't have B-spec, and they use more development time on the A-spec and cars exterior instead.
3. AI still drives like it's on rails. If you are in the racing groove, watch out. They will spin you eventually.

Good things:
Nordschleife online. That single thing is enough to buy this game.
Sound and physics are better than previous games.
Trade - but no one uses it anymore, exept for the X2010

Really fogerty? The vast majority of the standard cars I have driven look like they've got pieces of Lego hanging off them. They look worse than they did in gt4 for me, which is just strange. It's such a worthless feature, in no way would the game be any worse if standard cars weren't part of the game and we were just given 2 or 3 hundred premium cars. But then I guess people would say it's taken 4 years and we only get 300 cars? I really don't know what pd have been doing all this time. Fuming tbh.

I originally bought a PS3 on launch day under the impression that GT5 wouldn't be that far away. I had mine a year after which I realised it was getting ridiculous and my original fat 60Gb was worth a lot of money compared to the new 40Gb one. I bought another when GT5P came out and enjoyed it but in reality the game didn't last me that long seeing as it had few of the options that keep me interested in a racing game - tuning and making a car work around a track. I sold my 2nd PS3 but promised myself that I'd buy one when GT5 came out.

Well, it's out and I still don't have one...and I don't think I'll get one. GT5 does look like a fun game with some good physics but with the money I'd have to spend on buying a PS3 and GT5 I could buy several year's worth of iRacing and have the ultimate sim experience. I think I'll do that. Sure I'd love to play GT5 right now...in fact I'm dying too...but it's not worth £250.

Oh, I forgot to add, the AI is terrible. Really 6+ years in development and they still behave like something that was conceived on a Commodore 64. For example, in the Nascar Series I just finished one of the AI cars just pushed me all the way down the corkscrew, ridiculous.

You unlock it in A-Spec mode, can't remember where though.

You unlock on the AMG Mercedes challenge after you complete both the beginners and intermediate races.

I am honestly not disappointed, i mean yes there is alot and i mean ALOT that has to be fixed/changed before the game is perfect but overall, i am satisfied with it

I see them havig events DLC as well. Like DL a La Mans 24 hr event or Rolex 24 hr event with a few cars as well. That would rule

Wow, tough crowd for PD.

Personally, coming from mainly a PC simming background (and I've played the Forza's a bit) I'd say GT5 is a triumph.

It's rare you get this amount of content coupled with solid gameplay anywhere - sims like rFactor have tons of cars and tracks but that has been modded over many years now (and I still don't like it's handling).

So what else does GT5 have to do? Compared to it's rivals it is a great game and for the current console capabilities is about as good as anyone can expect it to be.

Of course some specialist games will excel in their areas - iRacing and nKp may have better tyre and general physics modelling, FM has a nice painting simulation, rFactor has a ton of mods, F1 2010 has licensed F1 etc etc

But, for a single game, GT5 has a little bit of everything and that's why it's so popular - everyone can find something in it they enjoy. If want a lot of one thing (lots of F1 for example) then buy the game for that.

If you're a general car enthusiast I don't see how GT5 could be a disappointment.

Rotor.

PS: Like everyone else though, I'll always take more stuff if PD provide it - just like I bought more stuff for Red Dead Revolver which was also a great game out of the box.

What the hell went wrong polyphony?
5 years? I mean, when you say it out loud, thats a friggin long time to get it right and they failed miserably. Ive bought and played every single GT game that ever came out and every time, I was blown away by the quality. But this one, disappointed is an understatement.
Over a thousand cars, yet 70-80% are standard and lookin like they are from the PS2 or even PS1. And most of these are Asian. How many friggin versions of the Skyline do we really need? Availability of the cars sucks too. Ive been playing 4-5 hrs a day since I got mine a day early and I've yet to find anything pre 70's for the Japan Classic. Damage is a joke. And where are the sparks that are described on the back cover of the game box? Collin McRae Rally 03 got this right back in the stoneage days! Smoke? Grid had this back in 2007 and looks better.
Wheres the support for G25/G27 wheels? Wheels dont get any better than these.
And the sound? UGH! A £9.99 Argos brand hairdryer sounds nicer than some of the engine notes. My wife has one so i know what I'm talkin about!
70 tracks? Where? Most of'em are variations of the same track and some of these look horrible. And why cant i feel the road surface apart from the rumble strips, which are way over the top?
Loading times are beyond ridiculous. And thats with the full install. I hate to think how bad they would be with the partial install.
The menus are the worst I've seen in my life. And dont get me started on the AI. UGH!
Dont get me wrong, there are alot of positive things about this release (struggling to think of any atm though :P) and I get an enourmous amount of enjoyment when when I get a gold on one of tests, some of which God himself would struggle with, but this game should have been the pinnacle of racing games. It just isnt. Kaz must be laughing his ass off at us.

Im not really dissapointed but I do miss some little bits of GT4 :(, to me GT4 felt alot more epic for a few reasons, Gt5 feels more like GT3, you know with less cars, less tracks and a very compact menu system. I really miss Gt4's menu or world map, where you come in and its so elegant looking with great music. Other than that things that I have no idea why they would be taken out have been, such as the test course... such a basic track to model.... The odometre during the races and when it lets you know how far the ahead or behind the leader you are it would show an icon of the leading car in Gt4. Little things but still, but in general im not dissapointed, would have liked a little more polish for 5-6 years of effort though.

Cant belive some people are happy with it! When your used to each edition getting better and better 5 is a major backwards step. Given the choice of GT4 and 5 on my PS3 I'd honestly choose 4. I sold my xbox 360 with Forza 2 over 3 years ago for GT5. I now know I wasted my time (and money)
I'll prob buy a second hand xbox when I have finished GT5 along with a PS2 and GT4

Why should I have to fork out more money on DLC for the game GT5 should of been outta the box? What are we mugs? No thanks

Lisence test and special event tyre choices are seriously wrong.
Nordschleife 300 SL S.E. on medium semi-slicks while the Elise challenge on TGTT is on comfort hard!

I guess the TGTT is supposed to be a challenge - maybe even PDs way of recreating some "chaos from the show" by putting the least grippy tyres on a RWD car :P

As for the 300 SL - well that is supposed to be for people to learn the course, don't want them spinning off on every corner - that comes later in the challenges.

Really I don't see any of these as problems - they're just console game style challenges. If you want to race "properly" find a suitable online lobby or setup the arcade mode as you want it, or even race the later levels series.

Rotor.

They could easily have added TONS more events and such.

Ofcourse then can still do all that with updates :)

I'd love though, to have more achievements added. By just randomly playing I've gotten half of the achievements... ;<

Also I think they should have given special cars as rewards, not just some car you can buy used...

I never expected this to be the ultimate racing game but you guys are sooo nit picky.
Permarga, if you don't want to race, do Time Trial.

The only thing that bugs me are the standard cars, they in my opinion were just thrown in to say "we've got 1000 cars" If they made it a premium car only and gave us DLC it would be fantastic.

Yes PD made us wait 6 years, but remember PS3 still has limits. No other game has detail in cars as much as GT5. Im happy with the game, as I said 200P cars (with more as DLC) and track DLC would make me happy.

EDIT: The AI 🤬 me off as well because of the fact that they bump you ect. I try to race cleanly, but they spun me off so I restarted and tailgated to the last stretch of Tskuba and then spun him..... so close to victory he was.

A few disappointments, some standard cars should have been left out, I can't change wheel sizes (I don't think anyway...)

Seems kinda short, countache should have have been premium aswel as the veyron, but in all honesty this is the best thing ive ever played in my life, and with all these updates coming who knows what PD actually have in store for us, I'd easily put the money in for DLC its the only game I would have ever bought DLC for.

I mean like there just so many specific new thing that put a HUGE smile on my face, online is amazing, euro parts, and BBS RS aswel as all the wheel selection, weather, track editor and just that feeling of playing fresh new GT again, im a very happy person, this game deserves a 9/10.

HOWEVER, yes somehow I expected more, but hey there are also so many things I didn't expect from it that I got.

why are people more than happy to pay for DLC???? Why dont you just send Sony your pay cheques and be done with it.
In this time of world wide austerity £40 is alot of money for someone with a mortgage and young family. Being asked to fork out more is simply not on.

I don't have the game yet, but from what I hear on the forums, it seems to be a general lack of FOCUS in the game.

Some examples:

1- Rather than +1000 cars (which honestly is overkill), focus on some more important cars, especially more racing cars, supersports, etc. If the game had between 300 to 400 cars, no one would complain. GT4 had +700, I still play it, haven't used all of the cars, but I miss more racing cars and chances to use em (the GT-class racing cars are useless against the LMP-class cars, for instance)

2- More real life circuits. There's Monza, ok, but there should be more. Also, the longevity of a racing game lies more in its tracks than in its cars.

3- Focus on the proposition. GT4 has many different car classes. From 70's muscle cars to LMP. But, how many chances to use them? How many races for those 70 Japanese cars? Or for DTM cars? Or for F1 cars? I fear the lack of focus translates to this situation again in GT5. Comparing it with F1 2010 (in the focus departament), it's clear what the proposition of that game is, and it provides it. The F1 experience. Nothing more, nothing less. Same with Nascar games, for example. In GT5 you have the Nascar license, and just two ovals and some cars. So, what's the point in having the license?

4- Poor AI. I've red mixed things. Some say it has improved. Some say it's still the same on-rail dummies. I fear this so much… In GT4, this problem made the game ultra-easy (albeit some licenses and missions). Really, once you master the track, there's no real competition, unless you use an underpowered vehicle. On line can somewhat make up for that, but anyway the AI should pose a challenge. Let's hope it improves with higher lvls.

5- Damage without consequences. I liked the ide of damage, was hoping it to work. Damage is all about consequences. Consequences for going off-track, for crashing, for bad driving overall. If it can't provide this feel, it becomes useless, and serves no other purpose than make you car look ugly during the replay. Also hoe this improves with higher lvls.

Sometimes, because of this all, Gt4 feels like a big time trial, with boring parts and aspects I have to complete numerous times to obtain cars and money.

I have faith in PD, I really do, but sometimes I wonder if they should focus a bit more in some aspects so they can provide a better product.

i too am very disappointed with gt5.
i own both a 360 and ps3,i bought my ps3 many moons ago for two reasons, blu ray and gt5.
after waiting what seems an eternity gt5 arrives and for me is no where near finished.with the technology on offer now, there is no reason why every car in the game should be premium, forza 3 has nearly 600 cars with the carpacks and every one has a cockpit view, and you can turn the hud off!
gt5 has sharper graphics than forza, but graphics aside, the ai in forza is light years ahead of gt5,which is quite simply shocking.
PD should have spent 5 years upgrading gt4 than producing gt5.
hopefully all the problems will be sorted through updates and dlc but they better hadn't charge for it!!!!

I just had a seriously up and down moment. I was on a dream run around the Nurburgring in a seriously quick fashion (I've had worlds fastest times in GT5p TT's before) in my modified Mazda 747B Stealth and once again I was simply blown away by the smoothness, details, sights and sounds and the sense of speed occasionally in this game. IT WAS EPIC!

So, after I watched the replay :sly: I went off to buy another hypercar as I was in a good mood. I thought, "Hey I'll get an Aston Martin race car like what James may drove in Switz- OMG THERE's ONLY ONE (premium) ASTON MARTIN!!". Not one race car. Just ONE (1) Aston Martin.

After I settled down from that moment I went to the Zonda dealer. I was thinking "Zondaaaarghhh I can't wait to buy heaps of Zond- OMG THERE's ONLY ONE ZONDA ARE YOU SERIOUS WHAT THE.....etc"

I think that describes the game in a nutshell quite well.

So far, nope. No disappointments. :) There's a couple things I expected that I'm not seeing yet, but I'm not overall disappointed.

The only thing disappointing me at the moment is I promised I'd go meet someone today at 2pm, but all I wanna do is keep gaming!

I'm only disappointed in that I've lost about 10,000 A spec experience points.
I was level 13 and a bit, now I only have 3000 pts. I have no idea when or why! I just hope it doesn't happen again when I'm back up to level 14.

So by the sounds of it, you absolutely hate this game, but you've played on it for 4-5 hours a day for 5 or 6 days. hmmmmm... doesn't sound right to me!
And I found one for that event the first time I looked, so either you've been very unlucky or you just haven't looked hard enough.

I think what you need to do is lower your expectations and compare the game to all the other games on the market, not on the development time and for me it blows every other driving game away.:D

I'm not disappointed since I buy pretty much ever racing game that comes out. In every single one of them I find there are areas that could be greatly improved.
There are always disappointments with all games not just racing. Go over to Civ5 forum you will read how many is so disappointed with it just like it was with Civ4 when it came out. Disappointment with Spores. People are disappointed with F1 2010 and WRC . There is even disappointments with Froza 3. Forza 3 did get some break since for most part is was an improvement over Fm2. Heroes 4 was a disappointment to Heroes 3 fans. I can go on and on with examples of disappointing gamers with games especially when you starting to reach over 3 in the series. GTA 4 another example.
I've guess I now expect some disappointment so I'm actually happy with GT5. I even like Gt5 AI which does make mistakes. Not only do they sometimes hit my car but my driver car as well in B-spec. I get the feeling some want an AI which will never touch them yet would that really be racing?
