Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

I'm just going to say what I said in the review thread.

I was a little disappointed at first, mostly due to the game's inconsistencies (no weather/time change for all tracks, no equal customization for most of the cars, etc.) but when I really started getting into it, and tried out different things like course maker, the special events, online racing, etc. I was having a blast in no time! And cockpit view isn't boring this time like in Prologue, so I actually learned to love it.

But even that doesn't make me forget some stupid features like "paint items" and one of my biggest gripes, the horrible way the premium and standard cars are separated. The used car dealership is a joke. Race cars and most high-end cars DO NOT belong in there. They need to be in the new car dealership. And I shouldn't have to keep waiting for a standard car to show up I need for a race. I'm at level 16 and Beginner Series still isn't beaten because of this. They should've just stuck with the system used in GT4 and just removed that camera in the new car dealer that shows off the detail of premium cars.

Im not really dissapointed but I do miss some little bits of GT4 :(, to me GT4 felt alot more epic for a few reasons, Gt5 feels more like GT3, you know with less cars, less tracks and a very compact menu system. I really miss Gt4's menu or world map, where you come in and its so elegant looking with great music. Other than that things that I have no idea why they would be taken out have been, such as the test course... such a basic track to model.... The odometre during the races and when it lets you know how far the ahead or behind the leader you are it would show an icon of the leading car in Gt4. Little things but still, but in general im not dissapointed, would have liked a little more polish for 5-6 years of effort though.
Have you tried making it on track maker? I think you could actually make this track...

After 5 main releases you'd think they'd know what they were doing, but alas they do not. There are so many problems I've noticed in my brief time with the game and the overwhelming sensation I get when playing it is 'beta'. It's kind of amazing considering prologue was kind of a demo. You'd think they'd be able to work out the kinks for the final game, but no.

When I first started up the game I had to install it which took about 40 minutes. Then I had to download a 133 mb patch which took another 15 or 20 minutes(my internet connection isn't great). After all that I finally get to play the game, but first the intro scene. I watch it as long as I can, or up until MCR. In my entire life I've never been unable to sit through a game intro, but I couldn't stand hearing that ****. Visually it was quite alright, even though it was mostly just video of a factory.

The first thing I did was go to arcade mode to test out the physics with a Mini Cooper S. Right off the bat I thought, "This doesn't look that much better than GT4." I still think that actually, except for the premium cars. Also, in the car selection screen the cars look great, but when you are actually racing they are not as nice looking. Another thing is the shadows which are hideous at times. Some of the worst I've seen and I noticed it in the first arcade race. Screen tearing was also very present. Some of the courses have been pulled right from GT4 as well.

When I first get to the home menu I am tasked with buying a car. I go to the used car dealership and the first car I click on has the wrong description. I believe it was a corvette of some sort, but the description was for a truck. It was kind of annoying to see an error like that so soon into the game, but I let it slide. Next thing I noticed was all the cars in the garage display their travel distance in metric(km) and you cannot change it. Even though in the options I have it set to miles, it still displays everything in metric except for in an actual race. It was not like that in GT4.

I've enjoyed my time with the game so far and I'll probably be playing more of it. It's just sad that it was released in this rushed and unpolished state. In 6 years they were unable to make a game that feels complete. Games with 1/4 the content feel more complete than this. I guess the lesson is that quantity does not equate to quality. There's simply too many problems that could have and should have been fixed before this went out the door. This is the reason why GT5 is a disappointment. I think something needs to change over at PD.

I find this true with a lot of console games. It seems more and more console games rely on patching stuff up after release just like it been on the PC for years.

There are only two things i don't like about this game and that's the new Level up nonsense and the B-spec,all i want from the b-spec is a guy to help me out with the extra long races that's it not do his career for him.

The other thing i don't like is the rally but that's for all GT games not just GT5.

Other than those things i'm really enjoying the game and i don't mind the difference between the standard and premium cars.

I am starting to wish they could make the menu system customizable because everything is so tedious to do. Like tuning a car, or buying car parts. Even going into a race takes forever.

I just played a bit more and just keep getting frustrated with the was the AI seems to purposely crash into me or they will stick to my tail until I spin out. I got some weird glitches with the cars doing this too. They hit me so much that the crashing sound just stays even though nothing is around me and I have spun out.

I don't know what anyone was thinking when they were testing the game, but I am wondering if they were really playing off a blu-ray disc since the load times are just annoying.

Hopefully they can fix some of these issues with patches. I think some of these little tedious things would be a huge improvement.

I was really looking forward to GT5 as I played GT1 to GT4 and loved them all...

GT5 has some great things but as I progress through the game I notice more and more things that really annoy me!

.) Driving with the gamepad gets horrible when coming to faster cars and rally (on dirt and snow) gets nearly impossible - and no I don't want to by a steering wheel only for GT5 ....

.) No Incar view for standard cars - the could have developed two ore there standard cockpits for standard cars....

.) This "Level" thing is just ridiculous - so the licences get obsolete as you only need levels and not the licenses to do different races.

.)Some races in expert mode can't be done with the cars that are available for the associated level - the race is for level 20 or 21 the "AI" uses GT race cars that need at least level 23 to by - and they cost about 3.000.000 credits - what leads me to the next point

.)Money - you get very little money for the races and price cars only once so you can't make money by selling them...

.) Prize cars - all previous GT Titles gave the motivation to do a competition several times because there were different prize cars for that event...

.)Rally, Nascar, Special event, B spec .... In this point the game seems over loaded - it contains so many different things but non of them seems really elaborated and thought trough. As it got mentioned before - the game seems to be puzzled together in a hurry - but not like something that was in development for over 5 !!!! years.

.) The "fails" in special events are often sooooo stupid - when an other car crashes into me I !! get a fail! In some events "AI" gets of the track with the whole car when I come of the track with one wheel at the same point I get a - well guess - "FAIL"

.) The "AI" - that's not Artificial Intelligence but Artificial Unfairness - they crash into me an turn the car round so that it is nearly impossible to get on the track again....

.)B spec - what is that good for ? It is not fun it is just for making money and earning prize cars you can't get otherwise.

.)Sound - ok it is better than in GT4 but is far away from great - and since GT2 they promis us a greater sound for the cars...

So in a whole I can only conclude that I expected MUCH more from a new GT Title that was in development for over five years!!
Did the developers of Polyphony digital ever PLAY there one game, ore did they spend all their time measuring cars and race tracks?

Most people don't understand that Gt5 should not be compared to Gt4 but to GT3 for the following reason. With both GT5 and GT3, they were making a game for a completely different system. For GT3 it was the PS2 and for GT5 it was the PS3. This must have taken up a lot of time and effort and resources for Polyphony Digital. When GT6 comes out, we can compare THAT to GT4 as Polyphony Digital will not be recreating a game from scratch but will have GT5 as a base and can spend more time on AI, extra events, dodgy menus and all the gripes we have with this game.

I'm disappointed because in simple terms:

A: It looks crap a lot of the time.
B: A lot of the little things just aren't there, or aren't as good as they were in previous games.
C: It was hyped to kingdom come.

GT3 is a more polished and better functioning game than GT5.

I got a couple now, finally.

> Roof view? What happened to it? I'm not talking about the hood view, I'm talking about what we had in GT4, where the camera sits atop the roof, therefore you can see everything that's going on around the front of your car. The replay has roof view, how come I'm not seeing it for actual driving?

> Not enough starting cars in the beginning for my various drivers. My Scandinavian driver does not want to start off in a Tiburon. Serisously, where is the Civic at the beginning? Gran Turismo used to have dozens of cars one could from Day 1, right from the start, for less than 10,000 cr. Now we start with 20K, but less cars to buy at the very beginning? Sigh.

the games a joke tbh i bought it to race online with the nurburgring 24h guess what you have to get all golds in the intermediate amg driving event guess what ?

i cant for the life of me get round it in 7.05 7.065 yes its a joke !

ive wasted atleast 5 hours trying to unlock a track i should just have anyway what if i dont want to do a daft special event ?

So, after reading the first 2 pages I gave up. Am I the first to complaint about the rally events? Yeah sure it is beginner at the moment because I am only at level 10 but what the heck. I turned the map off which is a bug. Because every time you start a race, you have to go into the quick menu, and it shows that it is off but the map is still on the screen. Once you come out of the menu, without changing anything, the map disappears. Then I turned the race line of. Nice, now lets race, co-driver volume ant tone are nice. Staggered starts, nice. Here comes the worst, Road with, WHATTTT? Since when rally is raced in such wide roads. And if the excuse is beginners, JWRC races on the same SS as WRC only in slower cars. The pace notes are, well plain and bad. I was coming flat out into a bank because the guy decided to call a right 2 almost at the turn entry. Really??? Whoever did the co-driver, did not have an idea of real rally racing. But then again, this isn't a rally game but why have rally cars then if you can not have real rally stages. So far, I have not seen an option to advance the pace notes. I have been playing rally for a while (RBR) and I like my pace notes read 2 to 3 turns ahead so that I can make my line. With the rally in this game, I feel like I am driving blind.

I was disappointed aswell, but i take back everything i've said!:scared: This is because the online feature works now!👍 And the game kinda had to ''grow'' on me.Finding it difficult to put away the game now, which is good.:dopey:

I'm disappointed.

They've had 5 years and they've not really brought anything new to the franchise, let alone the genre. In fact, they've gone backwards in many ways. No qualifying, dumbed-down setup options, fewer events.

The things which are new to the franchise are poorly or incompletely implemented. The online is clumsy and lacking features, weather is only on a few tracks and the graphics for it are crude, damage is pretty pathetic from what we've seen so far.

It feels like they spent 5 years modelling a few cars and tracks, then eight months ago realised they had to build a game with them.

I like the physics and the graphics (the people who think GT4 was as good obviously haven't fired up their PS2s in a long time!), so as a pure driving experience it's still good. I just think the game they built around that isn't as good as the previous games and isn't as good as the competition.

That's great news. Hopefully more people will do the same. The product is simply not good enough.

Maybe for GT6 they should make something different then giving us a 40euro demo that looks better than the actual game and not waste their time by doing trailers and telling how complicated it is to make a premium car.

Oh and here's a fantastic advice for you, PD: get your check book and hire some of the people that work here -> http://www.guerrilla-games.com/

Atleast they know how to make shadows, incredibly good looking visuals and keep a constant frame rate even with 25+ players online on the same screen shooting rockets at each other. And drop the ****ing stupid 3D, what the **** man??

I cant be the only one? If the game had come out 2 years ago then fine, great, crackin game but what have they been doing for 3 years plus?
Where is qualifiying? Whats with the standard cars and lack of mods?
Did they realy think we wouldnt want to do a standing start at the top gear track? And where is the Nurburgring?
Why so much ephasis on b spec? Who buys Gran Turismo to watch someone else race?

On the plus side, engines sound a load better and she still drives perfect

Yes, at this point in the game I am disappointed with the GT5 game. However, I am still early into the game so my overall opinion of GT5 may change.

I wanted to race against an adjustable AI pilot settings that matched my current driving level. I also wanted to be able to pick the AI cars for a race.

The FFB is very poorly implemented (at least on my DFP which works wonderfully on PC driving sims) and has almost no connection to actual events on the screen.

yeah, the AI pilots are awful at my lower level. The cannot even avoid a simple obstacle.

I have been a huge GT fan from the start, and I buy every racing game that comes out. More importantly, I am a huge fan of cars.

I may be spoiled by Forza 3, but at this point in time it has a more in depth tuning/upgrade system, a class system to rank cars and attempt to have fair races, a customizable online system with leaderboards, interior view on all cars, great engine sounds, alot of fun tracks and also tons of events in career mode to keep you busy.

Now GT5, I have to ask:
- Why are there no multiplayer leaderboards? This shouldnt have to be a patch. How can they not include this from the start? It almost seems to me that Polyphony does not care about the online aspect, and only went back to the drawing board after seeing what the Forza series offered.

- Why remove the ability to win one of three prize cars? I enjoyed that feature.

- Limited events in A-Spec. After playing only a couple of days I am running out of things to do.

- Poor selection of Premium cars. Ok, obviously this is my opinion, but some of the choices seem...odd.

Its hard not to ask the question "What was Polyphony doing all this time?" especially as Forza 3 included so much to expand the genre. Gran Turismo feels sparse.

Can it be chalked to the recent fact that the Western Developers are creating new, exciting features while the Japanese developers are either shifting their focus or playing catchup? The recent Final Fantasy was a major letdown to most people.

I can't even turn off the HUD and I had to dick around for a couple hours before I could arcade race Nurburgring. Other than that I've been playing more GT5 than even I thought. Can't wait to get back to it, actually...

But if it had qualifying, HUD off, easier access to appropriate cars, better AI in early races.. I'd probably like it even more.

Whats wrong with people? You guys have forgot what we really liked about all the previous GT games. if you dont like GT. Then go away and stop whining and complaining. GT5 is way better than GT4 and the previous ones. And it still got its charm and the awesomeness of gameplay.

Freaking forza noobs...........

So by the sounds of it, you absolutely hate this game, but you've played on it for 4-5 hours a day for 5 or 6 days. hmmmmm... doesn't sound right to me!
And I found one for that event the first time I looked, so either you've been very unlucky or you just haven't looked hard enough.

I think what you need to do is lower your expectations and compare the game to all the other games on the market, not on the development time and for me it blows every other driving game away.:D

Dont get me wrong, there are alot of positive things about this release
Read the whole review GT5 Master!
My expectations were no higher than anyone elses.

Need For Speed Shift, Grid, Dirt2. All released on multiple formats. All got it right first time. None of which had the poor reviews that GT5 is currently suffering.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Stupidest comment ever. you cant compare those games to GT. it doesnt go that way.

GT5 is for people that have a passion and love for cars. and race them etc. nothing like yeah lets crash all cars and laugh about it. then you got it so wrong. GT series is a serious game........

Poor reviews?

Oh btw, you should also consider the fact those games have a larger development team.
