Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Does anyone else think it's odd spending so much time and effort talking about what's wrong with the game than what's right? (myself included).

If there's more wrong than right what does this tell you about the game? It was released before it was ready?

To the people complaining: resources are finite, and quality is resource-expensive. Not everything you want has been implented in GT5, no other game will ever do that for you (although some other game might come closer, hope you will find it and grace its forums with your presence).

I, on the other hand, have found the game that comes closest to my wishes. So instead of getting worked up over people bashing my precious, Ill be getting some more playtime :)

In short: best 55 euros I have ever spent!

I understand that, as Im sure we all do. I think what were all saying is that we feel they resources were not spent wisely.

Too much time spent trying to shove too many cars in the game, 80 percent of which are peglegged and too much time trying to make the game look as good as possible. I know we all want to game to look good, but when it comes at the expense of other things it isn't right.

400 cars or less even that were all equal as in what you could do with them would have been just fine.

- Why are there no multiplayer leaderboards? This shouldnt have to be a patch. How can they not include this from the start? It almost seems to me that Polyphony does not care about the online aspect, and only went back to the drawing board after seeing what the Forza series offered.

I hope they do add back the leaderboards in a patch - that single feature was probably the most exciting new aspect added to GT5P if you ask me. Yes it was great seeing the cars get the higher resolution PS3 treatment, but the ability to compare your times to the online community adds greatly to the game.

For the sake of a contrasting opinion, I disagree with the TC. Maybe it was because I didn't really start paying in-depth attention to development until a couple years ago, but I never got my expectations to where they couldn't be fulfilled. I expected an HD version of GT4 with more cars and I got a masterpiece with so much more.

Granted, the problems stated above are totally valid, and I'd definitely like to see them go, but they certainly don't ruin the game for me.

👍

The more I think about the standard cars the more they bother me. Sure the ones I have look fine, but not being able to at bare minimum change the rims is terrible. I have a mk1 GTI that would look fantastic if I could only swap the rims.

I haven't tried the paint, but from with I heard the whole collect to color things than use it up to paint another car is ridiculous. Just give up a paintshop.

The sounds although better are still not nearly up to par with the rest of the game. Some cars are ok but most Ive heard are absolutely terrible. The NASCAR cars for example? Seriously these sounds may have been ok on last get or even the gen before that hardware, but now? No. Seriously if I close my eyes id Think I was playing a PS2 game. Sound is a big one for me. Every other developer seems to get how important it is, PD doesn't seem to be able to. All I have to say is thank god they didn't mess with the GT40, it still sounds as good as ever, so they didn't screw them all up, but they've had that one right since GT3, not that that means anything, Camaro SS and C5R anyone, lol.

The lack of a standing start on the Top Gear Test track is a disappointment.

Things I havent tried, but

Cant change individual gear ratios? Really, this has been possible since the first game.

No brake upgrades? again really? since the first game.

We wanted more upgrade options, not less.

the tuning section sure looks pretty now, but thats about it. Pretty much the same options we've had since the first game, again a fail.

No engine swaps, I know some feel this shouldn't be in the game, but I feel it would be a fun addition and provide an alternate ways to tune your car as well. However knowing PD if they did put it in they would pull something like you cant upgrade the engine once its swapped in or something.

Weather only on certain tracks?

The level thing with the cars, cant say its disappointing, I guess I just don't get it, I guess it gives you something to work towards.

Have you tried the NASCAR special race? The mouth sync on Jeff Gordon looks like its from a PS1 game, horrible.

I find it curious the Veyron isn't a premium.

Maybe not disappointing, but just a bit bothersome

More world tracks, No Silverstone, Bathurst, Road America Etc

Lack of new cars, lets be real about this something like 75 80 percent of the cars in the game are just ports from GT4.

I'm sure theres more.

I don't know, It just seems that either they're woefully out of touch, they just don't care or they are really that thick.

Maybe they really think they're that much better than everyone else that they can do stuff like this. Thing I feel like I'm playing a game that hasn't been finished. thats pretty unacceptable when you've had 6 years to make a game.

Do I like to game, sure I do, will I play the heck out of it yes I will. Will I blind buy the next one? Probably not. Ive blind bought every GT game since I played the first one at an electronics store in Japan. The next one I will wait until the reviews come out or I can rent it, if thats even possible anymore.

Until then Forza 4 is definitely on my map and I don't even have a 360. Ill buy one if its good enough.

You can make the game as pretty as it can be, but if its lacking in other areas it doesn't matter.

All I can hope for is some DLC or patches to fix the stuff thats not right, but they'll probably make us pay for it.

i agree so much with you. dissapointed, very..

I have to admit, I'm disappointed in a few things about this game. It's still better than most of my other games, but I would play GT4 over GT5 in a heartbeat. I just started, I'm only on level 10, but here's what has me down so far. Anyone with more experience please let me know if any of these things are better than I'm making them seem:

-Overall Sluggishness - you can't fly through the menus and there are loading screens and inconsistent button presses everywhere. I'm honestly mad at myself when I click the wrong thing because it's two loading screens to get back

-What the **** is car delivery other than a completely unnecessary step to claim a car that I've won?

-Can't win cars more than once? In the other games, I was under the impression that the car was a prize for that specific event. Why can't we win again? Grinding is going to be terrible...

-1000 Cars? no. I count about 150 since you get 20 completely random used cars to pick from at a time.

-I can't even do any races right now because I need to keep my money for when I see a used car that's actually useful and there's absolutely no way to get decent cars for the classic series apart from dumb luck. If I try to move on and dump money into a new car that I can use for one trophy I won't have enough left if the stars align and there's an old car in the used lot.

There's simply not enough to do unless you idle using the new gimmicky go-kart and Jeff Gordon challenges until you can find a car you want (or, more likely, a car you can stand driving) to complete one race with and make back 1/8th of what you put into it to make it drivable.

Again, the look and feel is incredible, and I'm trying not to take that for granted. I have that urge to get up early and stay up late playing, and once I get in, there's not much that I both want to and am able to do.

Also, the rain effect was enhanced for TGS and what we actually got in the real game left me hugely disappointed. Isn't it illegal?

I don't think those images show any illegality really. There are a lot of different degrees of rain in the game and images from incomplete builds (or fictional renders) are generally known not to be representative of a finished product anyway.

However misrepresenting a finished product is illegal in most places. There are features advertised on gran-turismo.com and the packaging that aren't in this game. The product is also currently broken to the point where I believe all copies of the game could be considered defective.

I'm going around with Sony customer service at the moment.
All I want them to do is acknowledge that these problems are real and apologize for them. That's the minimum that I need to continue purchasing Sony products.

You're level 10 and have these kind of problem? I'm level 14 and I have no problems with money and races so far. I've golded both beginner and amature races.

I find the used car thingy fine, but I guess that varies from person to person.

I have been a part of several game forums over the last year watching games as they were released and after release it is always the same comments coming from people.

With Madden 11, Halo Reach, COD Black Ops, etc, all you here after release are complaints about issues.

What happens is someone pops in the game, and if they see something they don't like, they pause the game, make a thread about it going "wtf is this?" not remembering that in the history of video games no game has ever lived up to a 100% perfect title.

The difference now is that people are dissecting games publicly, and lost their imagination skills so instead of allowing themselves to get immersed in the experience of a great game the way the developer wanted them to, they get stuck on small issues and spoil the experience for themselves, then flood the forums and try to spoil the experience for others as well.

I myself still have a full an active imagination and I can adapt and look past issues and flaws. Letting small things become a game-breaker will really make you miss out on some fun, and you will never be happy with any title that is released. I say this after watching Madden 11, Halo Reach, and COD forums self destruct after release when in actuality those games can be enjoyed if you just play them and quit whining.

I think this time people are feeling more slighted is because of the massive delays in which we were told that things were going to be done right this time...

People saying that NFS Shift or Dirt or any other racer being better or worse is kinda a wrong comparison...

I don't know in gaming history a single title that has had a development team (at least overseer) for so long as Gran Turismo...

1997 for the 1st title release, so in development for a couple of years before that means that the same person has been trying to produce 'perfection' for 15 years .... and i think what's mainly frustrating people is that we're here again with the same problems as previous iterations.

Yes the physics are better modelled and the graphics are better .... but i'm almost 'so what' about those elements... they HAVE to be better, we're on newer hardware and the level of expectation and 'norm' for PS3 is well established so thats just the baseline it had to reach.

In terms of what makes GT5 a GT title is marred by the same problems like idiotic AI etc that we'd hoped would have been focussed on this time...

Like others have said, oddly GT5 is a game that feels rushed and that final time spent polishing hasn't been done .... did too much time get spent on producing GT5HD/GT5P and all the interim manufacturer builds and game-show demos which could have been better spent elsewhere?

I have lots of money, but I want to finish the beginner races and I can't find a car. There was a 70s Lancer that I couldn't afford once, but since then it's been 90s-00s and 50s novelty cars. I just want to move on from the beginner races. My point was just that having so many races depend on older cars and only having a few random older cars available at a time is poor planning.

I'm confused by this, what did they misrepresent? Whats on gt.com and the box that isnt in the game? And its broken? Are you even playing GT5, I think you have a different game.

Well said. Really, you hit it 100% on the head. Why do you see more people complain then not? Because those who arent complaining are having fun playing the game. They dont stop after a race to make a thread saying 'this game is awesome' (well, some do).

I have 1 major gripe, and another concern.

First is obviously brakes. Probably an oversight. Someone is getting fired and Kaz probably gets bright red when he thinks about it. Lets hope for some DLC to get this fixed. Lets make it quick, too.

Secondly, it seems like physics are dumber down. I notice a change for the worse on Eiger. Even in GTHD from years ago, the quick uphill S-bend would unsettle the car at the peak of the hill. Even with all aids off in GT5 and nothing, no lift, no floating sensation that would occur normally. It's disappointing to me, as that was the most exciting part of the course.

There's no game breaker. It's a great game, but that doesn't mean we all have to pretend it's perfect. I like it a lot, but there are some things that I really don't like about it, and it's a worthwhile venture to be critical. Part of the reason is that someone may only see a certain side of the game, and if someone can explain a certain feature that was bothering them, they can enjoy the game more.

Forums aren't just for sucking other people's strategy. Discussion is important.

That said, it's understood that someone who's absolutely just whining is probably just venting and they'll keep playing the game until they forget about what's annoying. Chill out about it, we've all been there.

See, this is just another way of saying that there are better products out there.

While Forza is more arcade oriented, it has a much better content. This isn't even debatable.

edit: oh and in me previous post I mentioned the C5. It's not the current generation of course....it's the old one. BUT HOLD ON it's a serious game so racing against cars that everyone tried to forget is a joy only REAL enthusiasts will understand.
I would say Iracing is the best sim I've ever played especially online racing yet it doesn't have anywhere near the features as GT5 and Forza 3 does. F3 and GT5 doesn't come anywhere close to the feel of Iracing laser scanned tracks. You can feel every bump in the road. In fact after playing Iracing it harder to enjoy consoles sims as the track feels too smooth and flat in comparison.
It would have been awesome to have Iracing tracks in GT5 yet I wasn't expecting it. At least GT5 does have a visual bumpy Daytona track.

I always say that if you take the two most extreme opposite views of a game the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Overall I'm disappointed in the game. I play this game and it's just impossible for me to know what the last 6 years was spent working on. There's nothing in this game that looks like a 6 year wait was worth it.

Clunky menu's, having to go to 4 different places to upgrade and tune a car, no real damage til level 40 which basically makes this an arcade racer, graphics are crappy at times, worst shadows ever, cant remove and add parts at will, they need to be repurchased every time lolllll, no leaderboards, only 200 cars that look current gen quality, barely any tracks with weather.

There is so much wrong with this game. I dont get it.

There are many things that disappoint in this game. It is even less of a game than previous installments. I was playing around with the Course Maker for a couple of hours last night with the Eifel circuit and no matter what length or configuration I couldn't get rid of the horrible pop-up of the town on the mountain top coming down the front straight, so annoying, it really hurts the impact of that track. And with the reduced detail, and only one car on track? That's unforgivable. And the icon they chose for the Course Maker is a pencil drawing a course, I'll take that!

No test drive from the garage after you do a tune, lame.

No rims for standard cars, lame.

Standard cars, lame. Might as well play GT3. Standard cars should have at least gotten a silhouette interior.

No garages in the pits, lame.

No qualifying, lame.

Can't race mod all cars, lame.

Premium cars are too detailed, could have cut the poly count 33% and maybe increased the maximum field to 20 cars. Or at least gotten rid of the pop-up.

Hundreds of cars I have no interest in driving on a race track, lame.

No real career mode, lame.

No race seasons, lame.

No rally cross, lame.

No rally course maker, lame.

No racing rules, lame.

No flags, lame.

No mechanical failures, lame.

Oh we got reverse lights, lame.

Poor online component, lame.

But for all the lame things about Gran Turismo 5, there is one thing no other console racer can touch, and that's the feeling of flying around the Nordschleife at the limit. And for that I love Gran Turismo 5. When I'm driving all the lame stuff doesn't matter anymore. I just wish PD would step it up on the game design, if this were just another racing game it would be a total fail.

so perfect comment. Creds.

But GT5 is not HD GT4 with more cars, it is less than GT4.

The replay system has fewer features.

The cars have fewer mod features.

There is no testing track (at least not unlocked yet)

There is no ability to backup your saves.

In all reality an HD upscaled GT4 would have been perfect. Honestly, GT5 seems to be GT5 Prologue with more cars but reduced features ;)

^^^^this x 10

I would add...

More A-spec events : 1 race events? Really?

Better sound : Can't hear superchargers, no turbo bov, transmission whine is all the same in every car so it feels like you're driving a jet when you're really driving a '70 challenger.

Get rid of B-spec. pointless IMO. wast of resources and effort.

Streamline menu. Garage shouldn't be some little button on the left. There should be three big buttons. A-spec, Garage and Dealership. Thats it!

Stupid design choices like the paint only used one time. There should be a freaking paint store where we could buy any color in the darn spectrum of light for varying prices. Heck, PD could have us unlock it for extra reward incentives cuz after all, this game is about rewards.

Biggest thing for me is the tune shop. Prices of parts should adjust based on the car. A weight reduction on a '92 Civic should not be the same price as Murcielago.

A prime example of this is I bought a POS '76 Japanese car with 122hp for that retarded 70's Japanese event. I had to put like 20,000 plus into it to bring it up to 140hp but i could put 20,000 into a 600hp Lambo and I get 150hp addition. It should be relevent to the make a model of the car. This just takes some ingenuity and imagination from the developers. They could have paid me $10 an hour for 6 months and I would have custom made part prices and hp increases for every car in the game. Does a 385,000cr Murcielago really get a 20hp addition from a sports air filter? Do you not think that the folks at Lambourghini put in the most efficient air filter they could have that is atleast street legal? I would have added a 1,000 race version air filter that adds like 6hp or 7hp.

Anyways it is true, driving in the SLS on the Nurburgring at full blast is true gaming bliss and no other game can give so much joy to me. Just these simple design choices spoil so much of a wonderful driving game for me.

Hi.

Have been playing up to lvl 21 so far and the game has been great. However, trying to finish the Nascar series on lvl 21 is my first disappointment. The AI will consistently ram you from behind until you spin of the track. I have yet to make it past lap 3 of any of the oval tracks without this happening.

This game has so far met my expectations, but this problem affects playability, and needs to be fixed soon.

Only the AI. The bad thing about them is that whenever you corner around a chicane they can try to overtake you and push you off the course.

People complain about the time too much. What difference does it make how long it took to make the game. The game is still the same regardless of if it took 5 weeks or 5 years. It's PD's bosses that need to worry about that.

GT5 is too arcadey for me. I played the other GT's (starting w/ 2) then during GT5 development started playing FM2 and eventually 3. While waiting for FM3 and GT5 I tried PGR4 and Midnight Club LA something. Thses games were too fake with their stupid challenges and Mario Kart driving so I eventually gave one away and sold the other to gamestop for $2.

Despite GT5's physics being very sim-like, much of the rest of the game is very arcadey. The stupid "special events" challenges, the lacking upgrade system (why can I not engine swap my '69 camaro?), the lacking tuning system, and inadequate number of designs (ie the race mod for the '10 camaro is ugly and the only one available) make this feel like an arcade game.

I've read many posts in this thread that talk about FM3 being an arcade style racer or 1/2 way between GT and NFS or all about painting. That is ********. FM3 just has the cars and the tracks, none of the extra crap. The grids have cars that make sense (how many times in GT5 have I seen a 60's vette in a grid with lemans prototypes?). The customization in FM3 isnt arcadey unless you make it (doing ugly paints/ stup awd viper swaps). If I want to recreate the JEGS pro stock Cobalt I can do that (sorta, I can convert it to rwd and make the paint but the body kits are not there). A livery editor is not for making murals, rather creating/ replicating a livery. Some people may misuse it but if you are a real sim fan, you wont.

Forza let me race how I wanted. There were many races for every car in the game, in part because there over 200 events w/ usually about 5 races each but also in part because the cars were so widely modifiable (which is a simlike quality!).

GT needs to take a page from FM and make the game less scripted. FM gave me 500 complete cars, 100 tracks, and 1000 single player races and said, "here do it how you want." GT needs less structure getting in way of what people want to do. Let me do races in cars I want to use. Let me recreate a '60s Trans Am racing series race car. Don't make me race a hippie bus around the top gear test track.

omg you guys complain way too much. Yes I am serious - you guys would complain about the smallest aspect of the game.

Do yourself a favor: buy an Xbox 360 and play Forza 2/3.

It seems like you're picking on everything humanly possible and blow it out of proportion.

I know I'm not the best, but I've put quite a lot of hours into GT5 and I still miss most of the A-Spec Special Events, I've only done two of the licenses (golded the first and got gold/silver in the second) and I've completet all races in both beginner and amature.

And I still need to try out B-spec + online.

Yes, the silly amount of rims is weird, but come on - does this REALLY bother you?

The graphic for the standard cars is, at times, crap but it really doesn't bother me.

The only major complain I have is how small/rushed the online portion of the game feels and even then I'm sure it'll be patched in (which ofcourse if no excuse).

As i said - do yourself a favor and buy Forza 3. It seems like it'll fit you better.

Actually some of us have been buying/playing GT since PS1 days and after 12 years are tired of having promises made that certain things will change in the next version, and then they dont.

Yes the game is great - awesome even... but its NOT a 5 year improvement over GT4, not by a long shot.

I am not dissapointed at all. I wanted a simulator for Ps3 and that's what I got. I've read lots of complaining about graphics, engine sounds, Not being able to add forced induction to certain cars, not being able to use certain tracks when you haven't earned them, etc.

This is a racing simulation game...the best on a console. Now let me start my rant...
Engine noise, really? The only thing I care about is when my tires start squealing and being able to recognize shift points. The only things you should be concerned about when racing. Not being able to buy wheels for certain cars? I really don't care how my car looks as long as it performs the way I want it to. Just like racing. Rain graphics, shadows and other graphic complaints. I want rooster tails and appropriately simulated driving conditions. Not being able to race certain tracks because you couldn't get the appropriate levels achieved... You shouldn't be allowed on the track because apparently you are not good enough.
Done. Now go turn all your driving aids off and race. This is not an arcade game.

Best GTP Noob ever. 1000% agree with you. Betcha half of 'em can't drive an FT-86 or a C 63 AMG without TCS.

What is improvement? Also, what is "your" definition of improvement.

Things they have improved are graphics tremendously and now support 3d (with exception of shadow/pixel issues)

They have tweaked the physics to be tremendously better.

They have added in car to premium models.

They have added in weather/time changes.

They have included WRC and Nascar.

The interface and community is upgraded tremendously.

These are just what I can think of off the top of my head. To me they have improved a lot.

I believe they have built the "foundation" of a masterpiece, and once we get patches and DLC this will flourish into the racing title you all hope and dream it would have been on release day.
