For the most part, GT5 is superb. It lives up to expectations. The problems I have with the game are mostly with poorly thought mechanics of game play. The three problems I have with GT5, in ascending order are as follows.
3. The car delivery ticket system. WHAT is the point? WHY are you giving me this dialog box "Confirmation" and "Are you sure you want to use this?" Suggesting I need to be sure about it implies there is some consequence to accepting delivery, or some other option/something else to do with the ticket other than use it. WHAT?
2.Game play/progression is overly controlled. I don't have the freedom I should have. I didn't pay $100 to be led around by the nose. I happened to find an M-Spec R34 Nurb in a color I liked. Why can't I just take my car to Nurburgring and race it against other equally classed cars?
1.Used cars. Look, if you are going to require certain cars for game progression, then you damn well better give me some way to acquire them other than random chance.
If they at least informed us whether or not used cars are pure chance, or if they use a "card-deck" type of queue for random selection, or some other system, then maybe, MAYBE it would help. If it is pure chance, then you can be sure there will be a certain % of people who will simply be unable to get the car they need before they get disgusted with the game, the PS3, and Sony in general.
- GT5 is supposed to be about cars. Well, where ARE they? 800 cars but only 30 at a time???? If I was not already a died-in-wool-fan, I would probably not buy the product if I knew that fact up front. What is so hard about letting me pick a car a like, and taking it to a track I like, and racing against similar/lesser/better/identical cars, or my friends in 2p battle?
- If GT5 only took 2 years, then 26 tracks would be fine. 5 years later, there needs to be LOTS of tracks.
- Not being able to customize standard cars at all is ridiculous. Where are all the rims? Only 3 wings? I absolutely did not expect for GT5 to actually be more limited than GT4... What is up with that?
