Is Gran turismo 5 prologue the best looking racing game?

Trust me all that work PD is doing is going to pay off big time, when they hit us up with more info its gonna hit us hard đź‘Ť

You know when Forza devs say the cars in Forza 3 have 10x the polygons of Forza 2 (making them roughly around 700,000 to 1 million polygons each) as opposed to GT5:Prologue at around 200,000 polys, you'd expect the difference of the cars to look miles apart. But no, something about Forza 3's cars still couldnt hold up against Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. And graphically, Forza 3 may even have trouble toppling GT5 Prologue, let alone the full game. And no offence here, just my opinion.

You dont really believe that any car in FM3 has 700.000 polygons right?

I dont, but I got bombarded on another forum by Forza fanboys for saying that and their source was because its coming from Turn10 (the developers) mouth!

i daresay GT5P's graphics the most technically superior i've seen, but i must admit to having an admiration for GRID's graphics

i think they're fantastic. visceral in a way that GT5P's aren't

Sure they probably have that high polygon count in the developement stage to smooth out the graphics. But I don't think the X'box has the processing power to do that during game play. Thier processor is so outdated they couldn't even get the force feedback right because they are still using the old mod for it. Face it no matter how high the count you can't match it in the final image if it's only in 720p instead of 1080p. Time to stick a blu-ray into Xbox, MS. Turn 10 will say anything to make people believe they have the better racing sim. They have to back it up with head to head comparison on the same 1080p monitor, a steering wheel and show us how they are better.

Maybe some one should post a Hi Def. Video on you tube on every point.

This has nothing to do with BD, the PS3 also couldnt produce 700k poly cars.
Look how real the cars in GT5P or that famous Königsegg with the right lighting model already look, a poly count from around 1.000.000 would be insane.

so you guys think forza is the overall better game?

I'm still bothered by the fact that there'll only be 8 car on the tracks in FM3. The addition of 2 cars from GT4 to FM2 made quite an impact on me (add to the fact that AI in FM3 is better than GT4) and when GT5P came and along with GRID, Race Pro, they all have 16 car or more grid. Regardless of the argument for limiting the grid to just 8, I feel that it's a cop out- I understand the problem with 16 car MP but 12 hasn't proved to be much of a problem for many other racers (Mario Kart included) but for SP career mode, having 16 cars on the track does make for a much more challenging and dynamic races.

If you look at the R8 pic on FM3 then look at the engine bay on GT5P, you will notice a huge difference in detail. But I almost guarantee FM3 will sound better.

i dunno about the sounds people say FM2 sounded better then GTP which i think is crazy but i will put my money on it, that GT5 will sound better than FM3

PD uses a different technique, they actually take photos of cars, thousands and thousands of photos. Their engine is built using photo technology that's why the quality of their games will always be impossible to match, it's just insane, attention to detail is just incredible. Now don't get me wrong, I have ordered Forza 3 already, Turn10 really stepped up their game this time around, when they say 10x the polygons, new physics engine, new tire deformation and so on, this really impresses me. Online don't know much about yet but tuners, painters, teams, and the list goes and one on will be awarded as they should. PD better be doing their homework right now with GT5P online system, cause it's not perfect at all, they better bring it hard otherwise Forza 3 will crush them.

PD produces more "photo-realistic" looking graphics. FM (including FM3) has more of a "game-environment" look to the graphics, which gives the impression that the graphics have been created from the ground up, rather than using photography. Having said that, GT5P has an awfully "sterile" look, partly due to no smoke, tire marks, dirt, etc. which I hope is changed for GT5.

Personally, I'm a big fan of F1CE's graphics, which are not in the same league as GT5P's or Forza 3's, but have rich colour & lighting effects & provide a perfectly adequate visual experience while racing, which, in the end is all that really matters to me + Studio Liverpool were able to put it out 3 years before GT5. ;)

Yeah F1:CE looks great while driving, but it looks only half as good in the replays because theres way to less detail in the surface textures.

You forgot the physics - probably the best on a console sim. For example, I just saw a fairly good lap of Fuji in the F2007 (youtube), and it was within half a second of the best lap in practice there for the 2007 Grand Prix there (which was a real F2007). No other games get this close as far as I can tell.

Probably. But i dont know exactly how FM3 will be. If we may believe the interviews its gonna be pretty good.

i miss the BOV sound on Turbo charged engines in gt5p.

Chris đź‘Ť

Yea i wish i could let you hear the bov and turbo spool better though when i was recording my lap time i could hear it but when it plays on youtube you can barley hear them

There is something to be said about a game that will actually be released in my lifetime, or atleast before cataracts sets it. ;)

Side note: Just wish it had G25 support.
Thats understandable about the G25 but have you seen the wheel that can be used for Forza 3? It has a clutch, brake, gas pedal, and 6 speed shifter. Too pricey for my taste but it looks like a very good wheel that can be used with PS3, 360, and PC.
Its called the FANATEC® PORSCHE® 911 TURBO S RACING WHEEL

Ah, sounds pretty much the same as the G25 to me, and is most likely more expensive :P But I guess added 360 compatibility is better for some, and it might have a different feel (ie: shift feel might not feel dead like the G25)

Personally, GT5P is the best looking racing game available to me. I don't own a 360, it just doesn't have enough of the games I'm interested in for me to buy it. My computer can run racing sims but the graphics are probably not even as good as GT4, or even GT3. So, GT5 is a winner for me đź‘Ť

I still think that GT5P is the best looking game and probably GT5 will be better on the graphics than Forza 3.
BTW Did anyone noticed that there are no spectators in the first picture ?

they are all saying "forget this FM3, lets go to Suzuka Circuit" lol

Yes, but when showing the graphics as a final image will always count on how high you can present it with the sharpest monitor since TV monitors has a highest count of 1080p then the final image will be sharper in that resolution. If Xbox is only 720p then how can they claim to have a better image.

Polygons have nothing to do with the screen resolution, if you have a (proper) car model with 1.000.000 polygons in 720p it will look better than a car with 200.000 polys in 1080p. The image might be sharper but that wont change the detail from the car model.

myke6699 you're most definitely correct. FM3 is an extreme cop out. Limiting to 8 cars is a game-killer, it makes races anemically boring and ruins the entire experience. The fact that anyone would even consider buying FM3 baffles me.

If we're going to figure out which game is better looking, perhaps it would be a good idea to agree on the definition of "better looking". Is it resolution, is it the lighting/shadows, number of cars on the track, features such as bump mapping, etc.

Which game is better looking will always be subjective, but even more so without a definition.

Or even swear that it's driving physics are "realistic". Full throttle on corner exits in a zo6 with no tire spin is just plain absurd.

Only if you are zoomed in close enough and you can start seeing the polygon angles. There comes a point where higher is just overkill so the next question is how high do you have to go before the human eye cannot see the difference in the highest resolution TV sceen.

The polygons have something to do with the screen, they are the very reason why they put such a high count so that when we view it on the screen (monitor, TV, Projector..etc) we won't notice the polygons and just see a smooth flowing line.

I've never played FM before, but if what you're saying is true, that's more than "plain absurd". I don't know what would be proper, but I guess something like "Crazily extrordinarily amazingly absurd" would be more accurate. Once a Z06 ran down my street at the speed limit (40mph), came out of the corner.... And tried to change lanes. You should have seen what happened :sly: The guy lightly tapped the brakes, angled the wheels oh-so-everly-slightly and the Corvette started drifting all over the street. Yes, all 4 lanes, left side included. :odd: Heard things like "M. F-word",
-other word for donkey-, etc. Lotsa smoke, lotsa noise, lotsa bombs.
(if you know what I mean :embarrassed: )

When people say "realistic"...what do they mean? I mean, I understand everything but this word "realistic". Is it beautiful? or more life like looking. . GT5:P wins in graphics. FM wins in sounds (Barely) and tire marks. But that has nothing to do of what I'm talking about. Over all I choose GT5:P. Such beauty. so Yes, I think GT5P is the best looking racing game ever/so far.

I just have one question wich game is overall realistic? FM3 or GT5P?
