Is GT5 really as popular as we think it is?

The reason I ask is that I know only 8 people with the PS3, and all of them are not really bothered about GT5. I appear to be in the minority.Everyone has MW2, but they are not even interested in the "demo" when I have mentioned it.

So, is it a case of us fans being to focused on GT5?

Steve

i think GT5 is going to be more of a "steady-seller". Its definatly not coming with a bang like MW2 or something, but then its (to a huge extend) a different audience.

I have no doubt in the long run its gonna ship huge numbers. I'd be surprised about anything below 7 mio after 1 1/2 years. And before GT6 will come out it will have passed 9-10 mio copies...

Dont be afraid abput the future of PD :D

Gran Turismo wont sell like MW2, people probably aren't that interested, its been ages since a full game anyway. Once it starts selling a lot (it will) more and more people will buy it.

For example, my friends haven't really stated an interest in it, but you can pretty much guarantee that when they see me playing it, they will want a copy.

I wasn't really paying attention when GT4 came out,(or even had any idea of what gran turismo was) but did PD advertise it often before it was released?

I have 4 friends with PS3's and all of them are waiting for GT5 and none have bought or care about MW2. I have another 2 (maybe 3) friends who are waiting for GT5 bundle before buying a PS3. I obviously have different kind of friends than you do.

As mentioned GT5P is the PS3's highest selling game and GT has always been a high seller so we can be confident it will sell quite well. I hope it does.

Heh, i know people who hate racing games but want GT5 really bad.
I doubt it will bomb in sales.
Almost none of my friends know what GT is...
Have your friends owned a console before 2005?

Gran Turismo has always appealed more to the core PlayStation market but it has transended the market as it appeals to fans of Driving and Motorsport.

I expect Gran Turismo 5 will sell millions upon release and will be the cause for many people to pick up a PS3, myself included.

Gran Turismo is the face of Playstation console. Just because your friends are not interested in it doesn't mean millions of other gamers are not too. With all the car lovers and modern technologies and videogame graphics in the world GT5 will sell not less than 20 mln copies in the long run, trust me, that is if GT5 will not suffer from bugs and other "scare you away" stuff.

Just been on gamespot ps3 forum and on thread had people top 5 most anticipated games of 2010, out of about 16 only 2 posts had gt5 in there list...and not at the top.

I won't link but I'm sure you could find it.

I think you are right, I'm about the only one who's in the racing genre, but those games always appealed to me since I was a little boy.

But as far as sims go, they are really rather nerdy and not so much obvious "fun" at all. They don't take you to the stars, nor make you a hero. You can't kill people, save the world, get some chicks.

No, GT really is rather dull, but I love it.

That's because a lot of GT gamers are not your usual "stay on internet forums" kind of people. Think of European gamers, I can't imagine them stay in internet much at all, they have lives, but oh yeah I imagine them play GT in their spare time.

The sales figures speak for themselves, considering the population on the planet you are going to know a vastly larger number of people that arn't interested in GT5 than are, but in gaming terms GT5 is one of the most popular series ever.

I must say, fifty percent of my friends like GT5P, but only ten percent love it and will certainly buy GT5. Anyway, we can't talk about sales results when we are merely based on our friends opinions, the game will be a sucess, because when it ships ( summer, may, now, never, anytime ) there will be no similar rival on the market. And please, don't even mention Forza, I know, I've played it, it's a good game but, quoting KY, "Expect Perfection" and he is heading to it, but doesn't achieved yet, and will not make it in GT5, but we will have the racing game which is nearly perfect. Too optimisitc? :sly:

You can't make such a conclusion from a really tiny consumer group. GT5 will sell well in to the millions, with a massive commercial marketing campaign. It is very popular, no, it won't outsell MW2. But then shooters will always be more popular than racing simulations.

I know people who are waiting til GT5 comes out to buy a PS3...

However I also know people who've bought Xbox cos Forza (2) came out 3 years ago and they didn't want to wait for GT5...

Same here, and now those very people are enjoying the fruits of Turn 10 yet again, with Forza 3. I don't care where your fanboy tendencies lie - FMIII is a highly accomplished racing game. I'm sure that GT5 will deliver the goods, but I can tell you now, these ridiculous times between releases are rapidly annoying the fans and pushing the casual away.

I'm waiting to buy a PS3 for Gran Turismo 5 (and technically, FFXIII). I haven't bought a racing game since GT4, and I still play GT4 regularly (I actually just started playing from start recently after having not touched the game for a few years).

Although for the case of your argument, I wouldn't consider myself a video gamer at all. I only play two video games, when they're released now, and they're the two aforementioned.

To answer your question: Yes, it is.

+1.

I know atleast 5 different people who only got a PS3 because of GT5, and a few more (like myself) who are waiting for GT5 to get even closer before we get a PS3.

I don't know anyone in real life who has such an interest in driving games as I.

LAN battles, 24 hour races in (drunken) stints, Car trading, i could do none of this in GT4.

This is quite a significant factor in my tendency to prefer the offline play. But the offline in GT5P is very limited. In GT5, if its single payer is anything like the depth of GT4 GT mode there is a chance i will never bother with the online at all.

So no, i don't think GT is as popular as we think it is. I know people who have bought the previous games, and 'meh' sums up their opinion of it.

The outstanding sales figures are not representative of the players who enjoy this game thoroughly.

quick,,lets start a marketing campaign to boost the sales of gt5!....

Sales arn't the problem. Some people buy the game but just don't 'get' it, or just don't 'get' driving games in general.

EDIT:

The fact the majority of my mates are predominantly PC games is a factor... And they have Xbox 360s aswell for some reason, presumably because they were 'cheaper' than PS3.

Yes, just not in the same ways as other games. It has always been the type of game where you don't really pay too much attention until it hits shelves. This is kind of what happened when GT4 came out, I wasn't really anticipating it, yet I got it on launch day without a second thought.

So, in conclusion you probably won't find many people talking about it because it's just not that type of game.

I dont get it why "they dont get it" :S ..hmm

They don't get the point of GT games. They expect races like NFS, Motorstorm, Burnout, or other casual / arcade games. But when they don't slow down enough and don't make the first turn, the game just stays on the shelf and starts gathering dust.
