For me, the fact that GT's sound has fallen so far behind (in terms of sample quality) means that it's the perfect candidate to take that daunting step into the new realms of sound generation.

I agree, and to me it really does smack of a failed timeline more than anything else. For a company that seems to be so technically proficient, I doubt that the GT5 sounds were the best they could do. More likely, that they had to concede defeat in regards to the alternative's availability.

If the sounds are the same as GT5, I'll be disappointed, because there were simple things they could have done even without the new sounds. Hopefully they have some kind of contingency plan, even if it's automated rendering of their new sound method to samples to fit the current method (if that's aesthetically viable - it's not with some of my methods without serious, manual attention.)

I still wonder if something other than logistics will veto a stopgap solution. If GT5 was an example of an "all or nothing" mentality ("nothing" being what was delivered), GT6 may be no different. Wouldn't be smart though, in my opinion.

Creators often get caught up in their own heads. I can envision Kaz mortified by the idea that people might think and say "Really? This is what we've been waiting for?"

You certainly did. And your post is yet another example of the "if you don't like GT, you can bugger off" style of argument that seems so popular at the moment.

You're free to have an opinion for yourself. For you, sound is not a dealbreaker. You're not alone in that, and that's fine.

You're not free to tell other people how they should be playing the game. Other people have their own opinions on what is most important, and they're probably not the same as yours.

No its not, you're 100% false in your accusations.

Some cars in GT5 are quite good actually, but there are some which need a bit more punch to their sound.

But the good ones are below half of 1000+ cars in GT5.

It's still a deal breaker but we expect that it would be fixed in the next game.

At the time of voting please think as this as a way to show Kaz that we need a change...not just because "you" don´t care that much about it or because you think you are "a better fan" than the rest because of voting that it is not a problem.

Not much as a deal-breaker though but for some it is.

For me this needs to change now and even by knowing that in GT6 it will be the same sound as in GT5 (just because of logic: same graphics engine, same hardware and we saw some game-plays and sound is the same) I will get it, BUT I´m a fan of simulation and play them on PC as well, what you can find there are good examples of engine sounds like in Simbin games and such.

In GT5 I almost fall asleep more than a couple of times doing hot laps at Nürburgring, my favourite circuit. If I do that in rFactor with a good mod with proper engine sounds, GTR2, Race07...etc, that never happens to me...I can be running for hours and that is not the case with GT sadly.

To me this is an issue and it is important to the overall game...The engine sound of a car is its Soul, if you do it wrong...you have a car without a Soul.

GT should emulate realistic sounds as tries to simulate real physics. As simple as that.

This time there's no excuse for ugly and recycled "sound cocktail" that PD has been mixing for years and that doesn't even resemble engine sound in particular cases. Some cars have been acceptable, for example Zonda C12S 7.3 (standard car and so beautiful and characteristic tone through all the revs, really surprised) Aston Martin, F458 Italia, Gallardo) but it's mostly tragedy and overlooked part of the game. Fantastic game experience is both audio-visual. And that audio side of thing has been failing to deliver for many years.

It's almost like wonderful woman covered in mud. Sometimes it could be appealing, but not for evening ball...

Just saw the Pagani Huarya with full audio(SRTmedia) and it sounds like a Veyron....

Anyway i dont mind the sounds, When im racing i forget the sounds and concentrate on the racing part. But some sounds need improvement.

Right,Tiff Goes on to try various racing games to see which is the most fun ,never mind his comments about who wins, however the 2 most interesting things are he complains how hard it is to control cars in Forza and GT (something alot of people who drove real life versions of in game cars agree with)but also what was his biggest complaint when he tried GT5,You guessed it SOUND

I think Tiffany Dell's opinion, as valid as it is, should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, he's a real world racer, not a sim racer. He doesn't take into account, for instance, that iRacing costs loads of money or that SimRaceWay hasn't been quite a success and is, as some folks call it, a sometimes expensive mod of rFactor. I would've loved that video if he had more time to get used to to the whole simracing scene and dedicated more than 40 seconds to give his opinion on each title. Also, the review notoriously lacked SimBin titles even though it uses the cover image for Race: Injection.

But, yeah, back on topic: The sounds GT5 shows in that video are shameful. Three months or so away from the release of GT6...hmmm pardon me if I remain skeptical of them being improved in any way.

A simple "no" and "yes"'would suffice rather than you determining why I'm voting "yes" or "no".

How about several yes and no with different reasons???

Ugh

 That video is great!

That video makes me very upset, not because of his thought on GT's sound, but because he suggests that it's as easy as "Recording the sound and then playing it back." If that's true, then driving is just as easy as hitting some pedals and turning a wheel.

We all know it's not that simple, but we also know it was easily within PD's reach to have much better sound samples for GT5 and GT6 and it's not like reinventing the wheel. It simply hasn't been a priority for them yet, hopefully it will be soon.

Yeah I was a bit surprised about his opinions about iRacing.

Thing is he played alot of racing games all at once and the one Game that dissapointed him in the sound department was GT5 so he must have thought if all the other games have it right how hard can it be that the one with the biggest budget can't do it.

It's just occurred to me that I've seen several people in this thread say that they race without sounds, or they ignore them.

I played a racing game last night, and because I was quite drunk I turned the sounds down and the radio up. I immediately found myself staring at the tacho because I couldn't hear when to change gear.

People who play without sounds, are you racing with automatics? When racing with a manual, I find I really need the sounds to tell me when to shift.

I often play without sound, especially PC sims when someone else is using my TV. It works, but it depends on the car (mainly if it has a shiftlight ) and it's not as immersive and fun. My laptimes aren't as good as normal then too.

Sometimes I raced or cruise online or doing TT with my tv muted late at night, it works for me, and I always drive manual.

So you're saying drive the iMiev, the car that makes the most annoying noise in the entire game?

People keep saying the cars sound like vacuums, blenders, electrical items. Those are obviously the most realistic sounding cars. ;)

Because PD is so ambitious with quantity of cars and each having so many exhaust upgrades it means they need to record each cars sound with different exhaust's. GT5's standard exhaust in cockpit doesn't sound too bad as the sound in real life is muffled a lot.

In my opinion PD need to scrap their current sound model altogether and start over from scratch. Just listen to R3E's sound and they are still in development, the echoing sound's of the exterior TV replay is the best I have heard in a sim.

Yeah, I know how loud it can be, I have driven old car without sound insulation, the road noise, tire noise and small rocks hitting the underside is very loud, that is one part of the details that most game never has for racing cars, then the interior noise - the squeaky body flexing :)

Would a stock street car sound realistic in race room, that has me curious. Inboard cam, engine and exhaust would have to be muffled, and most other ambient noise are lessened a lot.

I'm going to go through the car list and see which car would be suitable for me to record.

I'll let you know what cars they have if you want to hear anything :)

*EDIT*

Just had a look at the car selection and there is no road cars at all.

I have a youtube channel MadHax77, if I get enough subscribers I will start making more video's and look into video editing to improve entertainment in future. I'm new to recording anything so bare with me :)

If there is any PC game you guys want to see let me know and i'll record it.

I have:-

rFactor + many mods and tracks
rFactor 2
GTR2
Race 07
Net Kar Pro
Assetto Corsa tech preview
R3E
Dirt 3
Euro Truck Simulator 2 :D

If GT6 will have the sound as it is now, it will be the first GT game that I will not buy, and spend money on PS4
