EDIT2: If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them when I get home to play the game in a few hours. You'll have to bear with me though as I can't use my internet connection and Xbox at the same time. =(

... now I just have to think of an excuse to go home and play it!

There are two discs in the box a 'Play Disc' and a 'Content Install Disc'. There is also a card that advertises:

EDIT: Didn't mention that the below are supposed to be free DLC on release, I will check it out tonight.

'Motorsports Legends Car Pack - 10 legendary cars handpicked by Turn 10 from worldwide classic car shows.'

'Sidewinder Proving Grounds Track Pack - This true test of skill includes 18 tracks made famous from Forza Motorsport 1 and 2'

Benchmark High Speed Ring Track Pack - The ultimate physics playground of open concrete includes 12 tracks'

Instructions are in full colour but basically only describe the HUD and the controls, not like the bible I got with FM2. So, needless to say I am itching to play this day couldn't go fast enough!

Grr...

I live next to Microsoft! I should practically already have mine! And, if I'm not mistaken, Turn 10's in the same building! I would rage, but it'd get me nowhere!

I've just checked out the cars from the DLC too, very nice!

· '65 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
· '64 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage
· '81 BMW M1
· '60 Chevrolet Corvette
· '69 Dodge Charger
· '57 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
· '80 Fiat 131 Abarth
· '67 Lamborghini Miura P400
· '71 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R
· '65 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

You guys probably know all this already, but it's all new to me.

I think I'll go yell at them sternly. I mean, really? Why does a game that's produced here, literally next to me, get released in other places first? There's obviously just a few day's wait, and I'll have forgotten it in about a year, but even still, the nerve!

I think I'll go steal all their candy.

Twist some fingers while you're at it! Oh wait... I bet everyone but Dan and Che and a couple others are on extended vacation... blast them.

Oh well, it's not like I'm ready to harf over F3. It'll be here in a week or less.

Oh, one thing: I assume you can install both discs for faster loading times?

If so, can you tell us how much GB's does it take for both Rue?

Unfortunately my 20GB drive is bursting. I have a 120GB one in the wings, but I don't want to use it until I have a transfer cable (offical M$ one) which I can't get hold of for love nor money. Stignumbers, perhaps you can ruffle some Microshaft employees and get them to send me one!

Rue, not sure if you'd see my post in the main thread - can you see how much the new Civic Si costs in-game and is it possible to buy any car you can afford as your starter car or is it again locked to some from each region (that may have been every one you could afford, but I'm not entirely sure)?

Hi Eric, I will certainly do my best to answer this question and any more you may have when I get home this evening for my first mammoth FM3 session. You'll have to wait about 6 hours until I get home from work though. Watch this space.

I will probably start a career with European cars if indeed it follows the same format as FM2, but we'll wait and see eh.

Ah, cool. Can you list all of the available cars to start with then? You should be able to select a region and look at its cars before deciding, if its like F1/F2.

The '99 Civic Si Coupe is 7000CR, '06 is 13,000 and you do not start with "money" to buy a vehicle, you start with a selection of "competitive" cars, ranging from a Nissan Versa to a Ford Fiesta.

The content disc is for additional vehicles and tracks and it requires 2 GB of space, if you do not install it, you do not have access to that content - it is not required.

I'll try to watch this thread for any future questions, but tbh I haven't been in this forum in years, just saw the thread while poking around.

I've also got it and will be on the forums pretty much all day from now, so ask away and I'll do my best. 👍

A few things first though;

-It is not officially out in the UK yet, but since we're currently going through a period of postal strikes, most places are sending their pre orders out early just in case of any issues. I got mine today since I selected next day delivery.
-The Limited Collector's Edition comes in a very well put together box, the keyring is very well made and the USB stick is a 2gb Sandisk unit finished in a silver-white colour plastic. The discs themselves come in a black plastic box within the main box.
-The game comes on 2 discs, upon inserting disc 1 into your console you're prompted to install the data from disc 2 to 'complete' the game. This is optional, but it only takes up 1.9gb so it's worth it. Once this is done (It takes about 5 minutes) you re-insert the 1st disc and you're away.
-The cars available for free at the start of the game are;
Chevrolet Aveo
Scion xD
Toyota Yaris S
Ford Fiesta Zetec S
Nissan Versa
Honda Fit (Jazz in the UK version)
Citroen C4
-All cars are unlocked from the start, so if you want to race a Veyron round the Nurburgring as soon as you start the game, you can do so, but only in Arcade mode (It's called something else but I can't remember what)

Did you install both discs or just the 2nd disc? I read somewhere else that to install the 1st disc you need to press Y rather than A. Might help with loading times and should give you less wear on your DVD drive.

Thats a truly depressing starting car lineup, at least geif me a MK1 Golf GTi.

How does it handle with the MS wheel compared to GT5:P? I found FM2 dreadful with a wheel.

It is a very bad lineup, the Fiesta was the only one that appealed to me even slightly. It's a good job that the Abarth 500 is the first prize car! You can, however, buy a Mk1 Golf GTi or a Rabbit GTi from the VW store as soon as you can afford them.

I'm playing with a pad so I can't comment on the wheel control.

Amar 212 said that the wheel is much better with Forza 3. In fact to quote directly from his post-

Physics is unbelievably convincing, even on the piece of crap called Microsoft Force Feedback wheel. I still can't believe it is the same wheel I used for playing all other X360 driving games.

I haven't used the MS wheel before so I can't comment but Amar 212 is a respected member here so I think his comments carry a lot of credibility.

Gotta agree with Amar on this as well, just from the demo, I was already amazed. Played for 10 minutes on Forza2 with the same car from the demo and then I played Forza3 demo, wow, what a huge difference. Man they sure did their homework, tire wear is playing a big roll, its physics is just insane!!!! Physics wise, this game is going to be amazing and it's showing, now if there is a difference from the demo's physics to the full version, wow, can't wait to test it out.

I know, some of you will cringe big time...but for some reason, I think I am going Aveo at the start. :nervous:

I only installed the 2nd one due to lack of space.

I can't get the 2nd Disc to install, I was this close [_] to throwing the whole game out the window followed by the Xbox. I cleared 8 GB of space and the box says you only need 3 GB. I just played the game for about 3 hours and tried again and it still doesn't work - MICRO$OFT I HATE YOU!!!

Anyway impressions of the game are mixed. I noted some things down while I was playing:

(-)
- Slow load times
- The rev and brake squeak at beginning of race is really annoying and gives you about 1/2 a second to get the throttle at the right place before the green light goes on
- Horrible, horrible car models in the select car screen
- Basically the same cars as the last game apart from some new racing cars (Particularly disappointed by this)
- Slow Auction House loading times
- Lots of wheel companys but a poor selection of wheels
- Changed some of the buttons in the vinyl editor (Why?)
- Presentation looks good but it still feels rough round the edges

(+)
- Improved physics
- Less easy to damage car mechanically
- Far improved AI makes for closer racing al touring car style
- Harder to pass
- Slick presentation
- Wonderful environments
- Very sharp car models in presentation screen
- Full screen vinyl group editor
- Superior replays with more fixed cameras

It's not as good as I expected and feels like a more polished version of FM2. The inability to install my second disc has me spitting with anger.

I must say I've also noticed all of these, the load times are very very long, and the race starts are pretty pointless IMO.

The way the cars are presented when buying a new one is annoying, they've blatantly stolen it from GT5 and it often focuses on tiny details instead of the whole car, so you can't see the differences between the paint jobs. I also miss the ability to move the car about as I apply new body parts and wheels. When applying a new rear bumper you can't even see it! :yuck:

I've also noticed that the AI seem ridiculously aggressive at times. Earlier on I was making a perfectly legal overtaking move and I got rammed on the rear quarter straight into a wall! I've used the rewind feature quite a bit and it's come in very useful.

I'm not sure what could be causing your disc load issues though, mine installed straight away. It's very bizarre.

Oooo decisions decision, Fiesta or C4, tough one, I really wanna drive both and tune them to WRC specification with some 2009 WRC liverys plastered on there (or fictional livery in the Fiestas case) not to mention chucking the hot hatches around Rally Postman or whatever its called.

Hmm...Honda Fit it is then. Shouldn't be too bad. Surprising that there's absolutely nothing RWD to start with though. Or AWD. We always had the Eclipse GSX and some 240s/Silvias to start with...

Ordered it off shopto today before 5pm and they shipped it with next day delivery (not with Royal Mail). Perfect so far :D

I'm not sure when buying a car, but you can select view car in your garage. Maybe there is also an option to view car when buying one.

:)
