It just how sweeping and fast it looks. My kart track now looks like a hire kart track.
Sounds like that other bloke is a complete :censored:hole
This "bloke" is a d-bag, you're right. He invited me to join his national team, claiming it was the national team, apparently related to a gov't sponsored attempt at tourism advertising.
It wasn't. I would've had to give him $6000ish for a kart, and "mechanics" who had to send their karts to Italy to have the gearing changed. *REMOVED*
Also, haitch, the best thing you can do is research it yourself. You know where you live, what's closest, your own budget, and the sort of karting you're looking for.
Edit (adding): The Nelson circuit at Shannonville is fast, and sweeping, you're right. But, the normal tracks are much smaller. Nelson circuit was made for cars, and is used for karts. So, yes, Nelson circuit looks big, and fast, but the racing is more like NASCAR at Daytona than karting, so... I'd rather actually go to a tight, closed-in track, where driver talent is actually more important than drafting.
My favourite local tracks are Erbsville GP and Mosport (long), so...
But, I've only been on Mosport (South/North Hairpin)
Edit 2 (adding moar): While I've got the google maps equivalents, I'll tell some funny stories.
At Erbsville GP, the pit lane is that squiggly bit at the south end of the track. The start/finish line is just about 50 feet before that.
Turn 1 is a tight chicane, followed by a 90 degree right hander.
During one particular race, for some reason, I was stupid enough to try to make a pass for the lead in Turn 1. At the exact moment I went for the pass, the leader blew his engine (stupid arrive-and-drive.) So, he dove for pit-lane, smashed my side pod (thanks, arrive & drive!) and then immediately realized what he had done. As for me, I was forced to go down pit-lane. But, since pit lane loops back on itself, I could re-enter the track yelling "banzaiiii plantsssss!" by cutting across the grass. Yeah. Officials didn't like that. The official call was "rolled black" (warning,) but one of the flag marshals gave me a full-black.
I could've easily won that race, but, no... I never did win once at Erbsville, despite racing there for approximately two seasons.
As for the Mosport (South layout with North hairpin) incident, I should never trust women. Never. It never ends well. I was the second-fastest kart on track, in practice, qualifying, and the race. First and I were miles ahead of everyone. Problem was, first was a girl. I wasn't going to lose to a girl (even though she weighed 50 pounds less, and was pretty ,) so I took note of where I was losing the time against her. Turn 1.
Anyways, after the qualifying session, I found out I still wasn't fast enough to beat her. I might lose to a girl! Time to ask her how she takes T1.
So, she told me "flat-out." I believed her. So, when the race came, I spent three laps gaining back positions (bad start, I was too heavy/tall for my class, no acceleration,) and getting a gap (it was like 30 seconds ) to third place (another girl.) It turns out, she tried to go as fast as me through Turn 1, and spun. But, on the third or fourth lap, I decided to try what the leader girl had told me "flat-out in turn 1."
The corner marshal I almost hit, while airborne wasn't enthralled. Thankfully, though, I only got a rolled-black, (and a legitimate rolled-black,) and some dirt on my tires. But, it was quite fun hitting the T1 apex so fast I got airborne... And I still came in second.
After the race, I went to ask the girl, why she gave me the advice of "flat-out in T1."
Her reply was "I thought you meant T1 in sector two. But, wait, what? You went flat-out in T1? You're braaaaaave."
