Yeah...didn't Kaz himself hold that title for a while? I seem to remember him being the President of Sony for a smidge but had to give it up because he was too busy developing GT4

He should just confirm or deny these features outright just to set the record straight with the fans. :sly:
Being vague and obtuse may drive us crazy, but it's going to keep interest in GT5 boiling.

And I think Kaz is Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment.

I think from previous Kaz tweets and from old kaz interviews, it's all politics and marketing issues.

Last winter, when GT5 was still scheduled for march in Japan, Kaz said he can release GT when he (we) want...
But the next day Sony officially postponed GT...
A fact sheet was accidentaly (automaticaly?) published and removed lightning fast from Polyphony website.

After this, informations are published step by step.
At E3 it was said that "major features" are still to be announced at gamescom in august and TGS next.

That's a basic marketting plan to keeping the pressure up and not reveal too much too fast!

But in the same time, some Sony honcho blew it all telling all the stuff in an interview!
It seems obvious that Kaz is a bit puzzled by all this contradictory stuff comming from Sony...:dunce:

Of course it could be internal Sony politics putting pressure on PD to ensure they deliver certain things. As a software developer I've experienced it myself when virtually impossible requests from management are made and objections are greeted with "but we've promised it to the customer now" from management.

Kaz doesn't hold a position in SCE as far as I know, he is simply President of PD.
I believe he does in fact hold a high position in SCE. There was a thread once that showed his business cards, one for his position at PD, and another for his position at Sony. Tried searching for it, but no luck yet.

To be honest, I've never heard of him before so him slipping up once and us finally hearing it wouldn't be surprising. Also, it's not like only intelligent people become upper officers in large companies.

And it's not because even if he were intelligent he can't make mistakes or had a monumental slip of the tongue.
Or it was intentional to either put pressure on PD or more likely to bypass the prefered cautious PD strategy and create further hype.

Yeah, there we go. I remember when Kaz got his job at Sony because his GT series is one the best selling Playstation games of all time. I think it was revealed when Kaz was at a Sony press conference that had nothing to do with GT. And someone was like "Kaz, what are you doing here?" And He went "Oh, yeah, I'm Senior Vice President of Sony, by the way"

All I got to say that Kaz using Twitter is very very cool. I am glad to see him interact with us. This will be a great way to keep improving the series. Fast and easy communication.

It's about damn time.

The lastest tweets are about the death of Naruse. Kind of a eulogy from Kaz.

And they mention that the reports show the LFA didn't use it's brakes so it is believed that Naruse had a heart attack or something right before the accident.

I imagine Kaz is fairly close to Naruse, he geerally seems close to a lot of Manufacturer (especially Japanese) lead test drivers. There have been a few unfortunate auto related deaths fairly close to him in the last few years (Naruse, Amuse founder/owner, JR Rocha Sema G37 winner).

Here's a great question to ask Kaz: How will the electric cars work in endurance races? Will there be a battery swap or will they be prevented from entering the endurance races or will something else be implemented for them?

Either it could be:

a. Electric cars will be prohibited from entering Endurance races.
b. The battery will be swapped and the car is good to go.
c. The car that has been used gets replaced with another car at the Pit Stop.

Can we ask questions anytime and just hope for a response? I'd love to know if we can remove the hud while driving in cockpit view. Simple but an easy question to answer imo.

Yeah you can ask anytime and while you are at it could you ask Kaz about difference between premium and standard tracks and will standard cars have horn and reverse lights like the premiums.

Someone should ask if Stelvio Pass is actually in the game. We've seen it, and the village where it starts and ends at has been modeled, but I want to know if the first thing I do is run the Stealth McLaren and Gamestop/GT5 NASCAR up and down the Pass...and then the Top Gear track.

That's a good question to ask. It would make sense if they were prevented from entering but I wonder if that's the route they went ...

Just thought i should add: Exchanging the battery in electric cars is not possible in the space of a pit stop window. It is not like, as most of you seem to think it is, changing the batteries in your remote control, or phone. Electric cars do not have one battery, or even one large battery. They have have several, sometimes 10+ so called 'batteries', that are often not even easily removable (not for a pitstop anyway) because they are placed in areas that are not easily accessible.

So i think that option is out.

There are (existing and working) systems which swap the battery pack of an electric car within a minute or so. Being aware of the long recharging times of batteries, manufacturers are testing systems where you drive into the next generation of "petrol" stations where your battery pack will be swapped for a fully charged one automatically from the bottom of your car.

What kind of electric cars are you talking about?

I don't think the Tesla Roadster's battery pack is getting swapped out in a pit-stop:
The Tesla Roadster battery pack is comprised of about 6800 of these 18650 cells, and the entire pack has a mass of about 450kg.

The problem is, I doubt pits would get automated machinery to remove/replace batteries and without that, taking out a 450kg battery pack isn't going to happen. Not to mention it doesn't look like the Tesla Roadster was made with battery swaps in mind.

It wasn't, but given that the following technology establishes itself in the world of EVs, the Tesla might be made compatible with it. I don't think that weight is a problem.

I agree that since the Tesla is not compatible to this (yet?), this likely will not be implemented in Gran Turismo 5. Yet, given that there will be EV endurance races in real time, there is something PD has to come up with in order to explain ditching the recharging times (given they will).

They can just have the Tesla pull in to the pits for a set period of time for 'recharge'. I don't think we have to have much more detail than that, at least for now.

I was looking for a video of the technology but couldn't find one, thanks for posting it! It looks pretty cool, I don't doubt that the Tesla Roadster may get it because I was looking at their site and the Tesla S is supposed to support it.

I think they'll just block it from entering, they've done it do other cars before.

This is a bit irrelevant to ask Kaz at this point ( as there are more pressing matters to be asked IMO ) I guess as it will probably be dealt with somehow in the game, GT5 may be very realistic overall, but remember those oil changes or car-washes in GT4?
Not taking the same amount of time, amongst other factors, than in real life.
If it was done fully as it is in real life, you would have to recharge those batteries after, say 300 km, and wait a few hours......this is something I'm not too keen on being fully replicated according to real life.;)
