the Precidia isn't the most beautiful thing out there, you know...

speeds, let's see... 210 in the Prelude, 225 in the Type-R and 195 in the Integra RS...

Well I went to get some pizza with my girlfriend a couple of hours ago. I also picked up the Ghetto Pony from my friend's house. Any way we were crusing along down the back roads near my friends house. Well not real back roads they are paved and there are lights but it isn't a main drag. So the light turns red and I stop. I'm fiddiling with the radio hoping I can get it tuned in when this 02 Civic SI pulls up next to me. It was tan, lowered about 2 inches, black rims, Altezza's, a loud exhaust, a Carbon fiber wing about a foot and half off the trunk, and a carbon fibe hood. I could tell he was about my age and was a wanna be racer who's his mommy and daddy bought him some cheap ass economy car. Any way he's sitting there reving his engine and listening to some rap music with the stock speaker about to give due to the bass. So I look over at my girlfriend and she laughs and goes "If you must". So I slip the Stang into neutral and floor it. It was loud and it backfired to. The Civic boy was like what was that. I was laughing so hard. So I wait for the light to turn thinking lemme smoke this kid. The light turns green and I stomp it. The Civic kids seeing the smoke coming from the tires desides he should go to. I took off in the lead after laying a lot of rubber. I was crusing pretty good I hit like 70 but then I heard BWEEEEEEEEN. I was like what the..? He caught up? Then I looked over and this Toyota MR2 is cooking beside me. I drop the stang into 5th and hit almost 100. The MR2 backs off and I win. Don't know about the Honda but I'm glad the Stang can take the abuse I put it through.

uh, yeah... :embarrassed: which means about 130-135 for the 'lude and the ITR ( i think the ITR couldn't go much faster, according to Honda)

forgot to mention that was according to the speedo, so it might not be exactly accurate. plus you throw in the bigger wheels and tires, and it messes things up even more. i went over 200 kph with the ITR, that's for sure, though

The fastest I have been going in a car?! Well, I never topped out my Civic, and my Jag has maybe been up to 190km. But I remember the 2 fastest speed I have been driving at.

244km/h and I was VERY scared. It was maybe 2 years ago. I live in Calgary and North of here is a vacation town called Sylvan Lake. I stayed at a guys cabin overnight and I had school the next day. I woke up at 5:45 AM on a wednesday morning and had to be in Calgary before 8:30AM. Sylvan lake is SUPPOSED to be about 1 1/2 hour drive, and I did it in 55 minutes. The car I was driving was my Dads 1993 Jaguar XJS V12 Coupe Auto. It is one of my favourite cars and not many people know this but those things have a 5.3L V12 with 320hp. I didnt have any idea what its top speed might have been but when I hit 240km I didnt push it any further. It still had alot in store I would guess maybe 255km/h top speed.

Here is a pic of a similar one, but to get the idea of what the car looks like, you MUST see it from all angles, ours is white:

Another time I was going about 225 in my Dads 1988 SAAB 900 Turbo Convertible. It was slower than the Jag but WAY more fun because I had the top down and I was on a fairly curvy road in the mountains. I was never scared for a minute because only a handful of cars I've driven feel as connected to the road as that SAAB. Although I generally dont like SAABs.

Here is a similar car but ours was Red:

We have sold the SAAB but the Jaguar is still around with our fleet of cars (13 cars in all) But again, they are mostly old exotics that can be had for a fraction of the price of a Pontiac Sunfire! So Its not like I am fukking Rockefeller junior!

While I have never 'killed' anything (most cars beat my citroen, 20 years old with 65bhp) but I have beaten some stuff. Last month I had my car up with me at university for a week and ended up racing a friend with a 1989 Nissan Micra. We were at the lights with 4 lanes of traffic and clear, wide road in front. We had a Citroen C15 van between us although we could still see each other. He could see I was up for a race and grinned so when the lights changed we both went for it. Much to both our surprise, the van got a much better launch than either of us and pulled away a bit with me a car length behind and my mate 2 car lengths behind me. As the speed rose I pulled away from my mate, the van no longer pulling away. Unfortunatly before I could try to get past the van we got to another set of red lights. Good fun though :D

I love this place.
Its nice to see ppl owning a diverse lot of cars.
The citroen and Micra would have been a good race to watch.
Nothing like low hp racing and staying within the legal limit due to lack of hp. :haha:
Nice post Pushrod.

Tomorrow I am taking the XJS V12 out all day. I have a few errands to run, including gettting a new set of tires put on the XJS. I will definitelt be trying out these new tires tomorrow and there will definitely be some ass whooping done by the XJS!

5.3L V12 320hp, I am going to rock some peoples worlds with this baby.

1996 Black w/Frost Leather Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas, 4.0L DOHC I6 with 238hp and 277lb-ft TQ. I am not rich, I bought it for $23,000CDN 0-60:8.5

Very nice steal.
Ive driven one once and loved the smoothness of torque. Its so effortless to go and yes, you did have one heck of a lucky day in getting this car.
Oh, judging by the 0-60 time, you'll only be running in the high 15's of so. Watch out and dont get embarrassed by smaller displacement inline 4's. ;) :D
Either way, just having 12 cylinders under the hood is enough to keep a smile on my face no matter the competition. :)
Im envious man.

Hey, Ill trade ya. :haha:

Hey Misnblu, my XJ6 is not a deal. Well it is in comparison to new Jaguars, but you can get them for that price anywhere. I bought mine at a dealership, and that was the Blue Book price.

I would also like to re-evaluate my 0-60 time. I have had the car since Oct 1999 and in the last few months I am starting to think the 0-60 time would be around 8.0, strangely I cant find a road test in any car mags!

Oh, and Misnblu, MY car doesnt have a V12 if thats what you are thinking. My dads XJS has a V12. My Jaguar has an Inline 6 albeit a massive one at 4.0l.

My car: Jaguar XJ6

One of my Dads cars: Jaguar XJS V12

Yeah, thats the one. :haha:
I messed up. ;)
Well, in those terms, nevermind. :haha:

i killed a lot of people from the lights in my M5, the closest being with a subaru impreza WRX. i was waiting in the left hand lane of a set of traffic lights when the impreza pulled up next to me, he didnt rev the engine but i could tell he was looking for a race so i gave him one. as soon as the lights hit green the clutch came up and down went my right foot, with that 4WD traction he got off the line quicker but then my 5.0 M power V8 worked its magic and i over took him. the race continued for about another half a mile and i was now a good distance away from him, then i saw him in my rear view mirror turn off onto a side road.
i've only really had one race in my TVR and that was with a mercedes CLK 55 AMG down the motorway a few weeks ago. he had been chasing me for about 20 mins down the fast lane and i have to admit that i was having a tough time keeping ahead of him, we then got to a quiet part of the road and i just floored it in top gear and he must of done it to because i hit 150mph and he was still with me. then i got to 165mph and started to pull away, i was going to hold it there but i decided to see how quick i could go and continued accelerating, i hit 178mph and bottled it so i slowed down back to legal speeds. those were the only true races i've had, but i have had countless races with guys driving round in their novas and saxos trying to have a go :)

WHOA... 178 MPH..... lecce.. thats like. uhm................. 285 KM!
buddi... where were YOU when you were drivin... and i'm just curious, but did everything seem shrunk n stuff?
cuz its proven that when you go over 250km(ithink) ur vision starts to get distorted...

Thats not true. Have you ever been in a plane. They go way faster than 250km/h and you can see fine.

I got in a race tonight, and my tires still smell nice from it. The car I raced was a 1997 Lexus SC300 coupe. I was driving the XJ6 and I was alone. The Lexus had 2 people in it.

It was a classic stoplight drag race. We were both at the lights. The guy driving the Lexus was maybe 30yo. He had a girl next to him, she was like 16! Anyways, I beat him but not by much. It feels good to beat a car that I actually respect. I thought it was an SC400 at first. I beat him by maybe 1.5 car lengths. I did about a 7 foot burnout and he didnt do any peeling at all. At the next lights they were both looking over at me with HUGE grins and we ignored eachother after that.

But when they're doing that speed they're quite high in the sky so the effects are reduced.

What are you talking about? The fact that the scenery is going by faster? No way. Humans see at roughly 50 frames per second. You would have to be going faster than 10,000mph to have blurred vision.

It's not so much the speed that humans have a problem with, but the acceleration. Take a ride in an F1 car (or superbike, or Pagani Zonda...), and you'll see things fine on the straights -- if a bit blurred -- but the real distortion kicks in on the corners, where your eyes can't keep up with the g-forces involved. They stretch and compress as you stop and go, altering the image your mind has to process.

Also, relative speed has a lot to do with how blurred your vision is. If you're 2m away from a concrete divider as you move along it, you'll probably catch every detail at 30MPH. But move within 0.2m, and even at the same speed you'll miss major details. Your eyes will constantly move back and forth trying to soak it all in.

So, yes, in a 747 at 500MPH, watching the scenery 30,000 feet below you is quite relaxing. Just don't try it at anything under 100 feet. :D

Thanks, I'm glad that someone enjoyed that. I was afraid that because I wasn't driving something quick it would seem boring! I am going back home from uni in a few days so I will be able to drive again (yay!). That means I can drive some of the country roads around where I live. I know them fairly well, letting me beat a Peugeot 205 GTI on one occassion, It was right on my bumper through the 30mph limit so I decided to push it when the 60mph limit came. The guy couldn't have known the road to well (if at all) as by the time I had reached the next 30mph limit (about 4 miles) he was out of sight. I didn't want to speed in a 30 so I slowed down again, about a minute later, I saw this rapidly approaching 205 in my mirror, how I laughed!

You know its not how fast the race is, its the race.
I remember when I was a kid and we used to race bicycles. Who could go faster on the bike would win.
If its not bicycles, its rollerblades at a skate rink or any kind of race involving two ppl driving or riding on whatever to see who is faster.
Who doesnt remember doing the foot races while in school.
I do.
This kind of competition has been going on since the birth of man and will never stop.
All we do is use automobiles to do the racing instead of the aforementioned.
Its all good and love the competition.
So Pushrod, yours was a good race and fun too.
Gotta love racing.

Well, with the WRX I expected to get coaxed into many races. But, I've really not had any street races to talk about. Everyone in my town knows how fast it is, and won't race me. I've even offered. :)

I have autocrossed it twice at the semi-local go-kart track though. :)

I guess the closest thing would be the time I pulled onto a highway near a hill top (very dangerous intersection) and a Dodge Ram 2500 came over the top. I got on it so he wouldn't have to slow down - but he decided he was going to pass me.

I don't think so. ;)

He musta strung that V8 to the moon, but I easily pulled away, backing off at about 120 mph. Never saw him again. :)

I have to agree with that. I've had exactly one "offer" in the two years between my Impreza RS and WRX: four kids in a Durango at the top of a nice downhill corkscrew. There's an intersection at the corner of a large mall in White Plains (The Westchester, for those in the area). As you come along the front of the mall to this corner, the road curves sharply down and to the right around the mall, with a split heading back up (sharply) to the left. It had been raining earlier in the evening, so the roads were wet, but the night was clear.

The driver went for it at the green light, pushing the V8 for whatever it was worth. I kept up easily, having briskly driven this short route hundreds of times. Trying to make things interesting, I sped up after 30 yards. He tried to keep up, but fishtailed out nearly 45 degrees to the left. Now he was on my left, so that angle meant he was aimed directly at my lane, slightly from behind. But he caught it. And he did a good job of it. If I didn't know better, I'd say he planned to sweep his way all the way around the corner, which from the halfway point it looked like he did. By then I was gone, heading onto i287. But he sure looked more the hero than I did.

That was October 2001. In my 2.5RS. Ten months into that ownership. And I've had no challenges, offers, suggestions, or rude remarks since. I might as well have a RS6 for all the Q-car status the WRX seems to have. ;)

Its funny how the guys in big pickup trucks with v8's think they are fast. Heh, they even go through the motion to get that Flowmaster sound thinking they are now NASCAR ready and are easily beat.
I remember my first time racing against a Silverado and thinking to myself, Ill never beat a v8. I beat him by 2/10's.
Ive even seen some of the older GT Mustangs with burley sounding engines get beat by me, be it in the 1/8 or 1/4. :D
V8 doesnt always mean fast, torquey yes, not fast.
Alf, they just know your the man when wrapped around a WRX.
Oh, wait until the Evolution VII comes to the shores this Spring, youll then have mucho challenges then. ;)

My uncle gave me a test drive in his 2003 Ram 3500 with a 5.9 I6 deisel with 465ft-lbs and 255hp.

He was gunning it up this hill, and he was so excited about how much "Power" it had, he couldnt believe how fast it was accelerating. I didnt have the heart to tell him that we were going slower than my Civic could go before I tuned it. He hasnt driven anything but a truck for the last 40 years, so he wouldnt have a clue on what he was missing out on. 255hp isnt much in a truck that weighs upwards of 5,000lbs.

If he need a truck, why would he care how fast a small car goes? Even if you told him your Civic went faster, you're comparing apples and Steve Austin. Compare trucks to trucks.
