Hope all out New Zealands members are unharmed, particularly Sharky who lives in Christchurch where the earthquake seems to be focused.

I'm OK :)

Without a doubt it felt worse than the September quake, despite being 6.3 vs the 7.1 of the Darfield quake - it was half as deep (5km) and quite a bit closer to the city centre. My house in the north-west of the city (quake was centred in the south-east) was shaking like crazy and making all sorts of weird noises, which it didn't do in the September quake!

Reports of several fatalities already :scared:

It says 2 people injured in the last one in September, and this one is only half as powerful. If there are deaths it must be bad luck or perhaps weakened buildings unrepaired since then.
Edit: Half as deep, half as strong, I wonder if that brings it into being directly comparable strength in effect.

Damn. I'm glad to hear that you are OK, Sharky. You didn't even mention any quakes. I just happen to stumble onto this thread. I hope your internet connection doesn't get any worse this weekend!

That's one serious case of Déjà Vu, Sharky. Hope you and your cat are okay 👍
Do you still have that avatar that Omnis made?

When I first heard of the Earthquake at school today (had an assembly), the principal said that it was a 6.3 and I thought Only? Why the assembly?. But then I heard how shallow it was. Pretty devastating :ill:.

Yep. Way more destructive than the 7.1 (which was very damaging in its own right) imo, due to being both shallower and closer to the city. We've already had a 5.5 aftershock and several 4.x ones to boot...

17 confirmed dead so far, with that set to rise :(

In the video above, was that S15 okay? I'd hate to see it badly damaged

Also hope everyone involved was okay or not too badly hurt.

For a moment there I was really worried about those inanimate objects, too! Just think of how terrible it would be if those poor cars didn't have usable roads or clean water to wash off their dusty bodies. Won't someone please think of the automobiles?

:dunce:

Things sounds really bad there right now, good to hear some of our members from New Zealand are okay.

There's also a few other members in the GT5 section sending their prayers.
Oh, and did your cat sleep through it again?
The 17 dead is pretty sad as well :(. I just hope all the shaking stops - must be annoying as hell :irked:
I also know a few friends with connections in Christchurch. I'm praying for them :(

Godspeed my friend and I hope and pray all your friends, family and neighbors as well the people are ok.

Hope you are all OK! Wish there was something more I could do from around the world. If I was closer Id offer to wash all those cars in a hand wash for free lol! all that dust makes me cry!

I CAN send you a car of your choice from GT5...although that may seem insensitive.

Hope all those in Christchurch are getting the help they need, what a time you guys have had! If I were religious I'd be praying for you all. But I'm not so I will drift in my Chrome Art Morrison and dedicate my smoke to the South!

Nobody died in the last quake, huh?

Nope. Two serious injuries and one 'related death' (heart attack). It was because the epicentre was so deep and it was so early in the morning. No one was out. This one was really shallow and in the middle of the day. :(

Massive event here. As said, 65 people confirmed dead. Will be many times that in the end. Ambulances coming from all over the country, helicopters constantly overhead. Traffic still jammed everywhere. The damage is incomparable to the 7.1 quake, that was nothing, this is every building in the central city is written off.

Oh, and did your cat sleep through it again?

Initially no, but once the first two shocks had passed she went to sleep in the middle of the hallway

Daniel
I also know a few friends with connections in Christchurch. I'm praying for them :(
Hope your friends are alright 👍

Nobody died in the last quake, huh?
Not directly, there was one death from a heart attack but that wasn't as a direct result of the earthquake itself. We haven't been so fortunate this time :(

Just gone up to 65:(
Really sad news. :( Really really sad.

Wow I just heard the news. Glad to see that Sharky is ok! :) But very sad to see at least at this time, 65 dead and it will be rising I've read. :( :grumpy:

65 is not a mega quake, but still is a lot. Hope the number won't climb much higher. Very sad. :guilty:

Oh my god, first floods, then a cyclone which added to a humongous bushfire out in Western Australia just a bit over a week ago. Now we have earthquakes hitting our neighbour country? Keep in mind all of this has happened in two months, this year is hitting hard...

Just think, next year may very well be worse, but what is even more worrying is that over the years our world is going to just keep degrading with disasters like these becoming more frequent...that sucks. Glad to hear Sharky is still with us though :).

I read on Wikipedia (with a citation) that lights and power lines actually shook in Pukekohe.
To put that in perspective, that's 13 hours of driving (not including the Ferry across the two islands) away from each other :nervous:

Glad to hear Sharky is okay! 👍
But yeah, not everyone is as fortunate it seems... I'll send my prayers and condolences to those who were badly affected as well as relatives/friends out there as well.
Sad thing is, the worse might have yet to come... :(
