So Jalopnik is now reporting 700hp from *just* the electric motors and it's a hybrid. Considering the 1:1 makes 1300hp, the Regera could be making close to an honest 2,000hp.

If we take the first benchmark of the 300SL of 1954...

1954 300SL: First car with ~250hp (really 220, but let's round up for this icon)
1987 F40: First car with ~500hp (rounding up because they were underrated)
2005 Veyron: First car with 1000hp (there were tuners but no regular production cars)
2016 Regera: First car with 2000hp?

To go from 250hp to 500hp took 33 years
To go from 500hp to 1000hp took 18 years
To go from 1000hp to 2000hp took 11 years

Crazy times.

*some of the above might not be the first with their respective power outputs, can anyone confirm whether there was a production sports car before the 300sl to generate 250hp or the same with the F40?

Very impressive if it can handle all the power.

But I'd still prefer a CCX with 'only' 900hp.

If true, it'll be the first production car like the Veyron. UGR has been produced a couple 2,000whp Gallardos that will probably give the 'Egg a nice run for its money. :P

I'm a little surprised that nobody here seems at all bothered if this is actually a new car, as, much as I like and admire Koenigsegg, they have deviated very little stylistically during their lifetime. The comparison to Lamborghini earlier in the thread was a little facile really, as aesthetically their output over the same timescale has been somewhat more varied, when arguably Koenigsegg have been making the same car all along. I'm hoping for that Huayra leap :)

The thing is that very little was shown of the car's design to actually see if it is a new one, or a variation of the current design language. I understand your concern, obviously variety helps when you are a supercar company. That "Huayra leap" could happen, but it is not possible to tell if the Regera will be the car to do that.

From the Agera thread; I share the same view. :)
I'm curious as to whether or not the company will actually build something entirely new. The design of the cars at their very core is close to 20 years old now.

It's not a knock to point out. I applaud the company for keeping the car fresh & competitive. I can't recall any manufacturers at the moment, being able to remain on 1 sole car to keep them going & just updating it as time goes on. We're beginning to see the wall they're at with the R's extreme aero work, so I wonder if an entirely new design will ever come out. Again, major kudos to them.

I honestly believe that the Top Gear restart in 2002 significantly altered the fortunes of both Pagani and Koenigsegg, as they were stars of the early seasons. While Pagani is the absolute epitome of beautifully intricate hand made autophilia, and they can now easily frame their future on those credentials, I don't think they were really above the competition when the Zonda arrived. Lots of parts bin pieces, even if they were cleverly integrated. Koenigsegg isn't now and certainly wasn't then but I think those early reviews really secured a popular fan base for both marques. This isn't to discredit either car company as they both make wonderful things, but the marketing opportunity given to them by the Top Gear reboot was probably the most timely thing to happen to either.

Now that sounds like a good plan...besides the drop in price when you roll it off the lot...and if you had that kind of money wouldn't it be smarter to not buy it and lose money and just go straight to Lotus and get more than 20 Exiges...

Ok then, wait till the regera has sold out for a couple years, sell it for twice the price that i bought it for, then buy 40 lotus Exiges.

Shouldn't take too long until everyone has crashed theirs and yours would be the only one left, priceless.
Yeah, and to prevent myself from crashing, i leave it in a really well kept garage, also keeping the mileage down, furthering the quality and thereby selling it for even more. That's gotta be another 3 Exiges!

You expect its price to drop?

That is doubtful, really. I mean look at used LaFerraris, they sell for more than they did on release because there is demand for them. The same will be true for the lower volume 'Segg because people will want this car badly.

I still want that Hyper GT Racing Series with cars like the Zonda R, Ferrari FXXFFXXF or whatever it's called, P1 GTR, Gumpert Apollo S something etc.
