that falling rain looks a bit odd, but i guess in motion its all nice.
I agree...but to me, 99% of the time falling rain looks so ridiculously fake in video games when looking at a perfectly sharp single frame.

@ProjectWHaT - That information about dynamic driver numbers is sweet. It will be so nice to be able to race with my desired driver number.

The track only pictures are stunning, but the car lighting looks a bit...flat? If anything it looks a bit worse than AC. Maybe I'm just too spoilt with GT Sport's graphics :P

Anyway, physics > graphics in a sim.

Also don't forget that it's still a work in progress. I think it will be different in the final product.

Exactly this. Its relatively early WIP screenshots. The game is at least half a year or more away from being released (full version that is, not early access). Remember the demo of AC and how much better the lighting and basically everything looks now.
Remember GT Sport when it was first shown, it looked actually really bad, and now its just gorgeous.

Rain generally looks much better at high 120/144hz, while quality and behavior is the same the motion itself is generally what tricks people out. Rain just falls fast enough that it looks unnatural with our current monitors. Furthermore its damn hard to render effectively.

AC Twitter just posted a new set of pictures. I don't remember if these are brand new or not.

Is that a dried up racing line and moist on the sides? Would be cool to have a timelapse to see how the rain dries up.

And in PCars2 it's fully dynamic, correct? I.e. it dries up where cars actually drive and is not just scripted to dry up around the racing line?

Exactly. And i think if you have time progression on then it also dries up faster than without, but not super sure. Would make sense though.
But anyways, its so nice to see that dry lane while still having moist and also actual puddles still in some corners (puddles become smaller and smaller then but still big enough to throw you out even if the line is dry)
I am not a big fan of PC2 although i think its a very solid game overall, but this alone makes me want to play it every now and then just to see the effect haha

Yes, pcars divides each track into a grid and then calculates the conditions based on things that go over it or next it to it. Graphics are of course offset so it looks nice.

I really don't care much about rain in my racing sim, but I understand why people want it and I support them and hope weather is awesome in Assetto Corsa Competizione. Now that I see a drying racing line it made me think of another question. We've seen puddles already...I wonder if it will be possible to still have puddles on a section of track like Sterling's Bend at Brand's Hatch which is extremely covered with shade from all those trees while the Start/Finish straight is wide open and you'd expect it to dry quicker. Does PCars 2 rain work like that?

On a side note...I just finished running a few laps at Brand's Hatch in the Countach and I thought we were in for an extinction event. It looks like the sun is about to crash into earth! I admit, the effect looked scarier while driving full speed. :P :D

BTW, who doesn't love driving the Countach in Assetto Corsa? I can drive this thing all day. :) 👍

I actually think it does work like that in PC2, i find that track sections covered with shade from trees or buildings dry slower than open ones.

Wow, those dry weather shots could pass as from GT Sport. If the game looks as well as it does running as the stills then I'd say the switch to UE4 is a win

I love dynamic tracks as well. As long as the puddles aren't overkill like in Forza then it's all good. Seriously, there is literally a LAKE on the start/finish straight at Brands in Forza 6  IRL it would be an instant red flag situation.

I could feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about that in ACC. Oh, the rage would be very strong in me. When I set up my own races or whatever we're allowed to do in SP mode I doubt I'll ever intentionally activate the rain past the first few days or so. Maybe I'll be proven wrong and I'll be in here singing "Racing in the rain is the greatest thing EVAR!!!!!".

You should see PC2 also! The puddles get big and literally slowing down might be needed to pass some!
For some odd reason I've never seen such huge puddles in real life and drivers literally slow down on a straight to pass a puddle or seeing lakes on the track! Am I wrong?!

In real life races get red flagged well before those sort of levels of standing water are reached - British GT race 2 at Oulton Park this year is a prime example. Jonny Adam (Platinum rated Aston Martin works driver, so a pretty handy pedaller...) aquaplaned off on the formation lap, the rest of the field did 5 or 6 laps behind the safety car before they threw the red flag.

In the sim world we get to race in conditions that would be too dangerous to race IRL - if we choose to :)

See....That's just stupid to me. I've also heard there is snowing in PCars 2? That's beyond ridiculous.

Yes on normal tracks in a gt3 it's ridiculous. But snow on a rally cross track with a rally car is ridiculously fun

Watching the 24h of Nurburgring i find that wet track in games looks way too shiny and mirrory than reality. And i really hope that ACC will not go for these ridiculous and unrealistic puddles Forza 6 and PCars2 have. Actually FM7 does a more decent job on them. Don't get how people complained that they don't feel the puddles anymore - as if you should to that degree!
