Did a race this morning as I woke up before work.
Unfortunately I only got a 3rd place as it was a a very quick dry up of the track.
I got into these slightly underpowered cars as I was trying to put together some of the lower category JGTC/GT300 cars in 90's/ early 00's
Here's the Corolla Levin Supercharged.
It handles pretty well, and you'll gain time in corners, but straights is another matter. you can keep up with some cars, you can gain time on cars like the Atenza or lancer, but overall you'll be left behind on straights if you don't have the splitstream. If you bolt on a turbo, the race just becomes easy.
And here's my setup. RM tyres (although you can take softs), and FM1 as you need to go full beans on the straights to keep up with the pack. You normally can get 3 laps without a problem.
Here's my PoV from this morning
Lap 1 was Sunny, and with the drowsiness, I got a bad start. I couldn't overtake the Ferrari/alfa back markers in the Dunlop chicane. This means no free 3 spots as you just exit tetre rouge. I got passed by the alfa in the second straight of the mulsanne. the AI outbraked me. A sight to behold. I recovered my 18th spot only at Arnage.
Lap 2 came along and I was 15th at the starting line. Still sunny, and the radar started showing the blissful rain as I'm going through indianapolis. It shows just light blue, so piting in lap 2 isn't beneficial.
Lap 3 starts with a sunny sky, and my side by side with the WRX for 12th place. As I exit the Tetre rouge, the sun gets behind a cloud, yet still blue above. Rain starts to fall as I'm at the mulsanne fighting with the porsche for 8th, as that car has legs and recovers on the straight everytime i pass him. As I exit the Mulsanne, the rain is now over the 1st level on the meter. its time to make some places as the AI and Rain don't mesh too well here.
Lap 4 starts in the pits as I get a full tank, and IM tyres. Pitted 9th behind the Porsche and Ford, and exited 10th behind the Toyota Supra. But it doesn't matter as in a minute and half, I'll be in 1st place. The AI really sucks in the rain. The rain hits the top of 2nd level on the meter as I start the mulsanne. Some bit of puddles, but nothing IM tyres can't deal with. By the first chicane I caught up with P1. There was a Aston crawling on the straight, as I assume it didn't have wet tyres. The bad weather only lasts until the Porsche esses, which means i'm in danger. The AI starts gaining terrain
Lap 5 comes in, and the sky is starting to clear up. The rain is drying FAST. By the 2nd chicane of the Mulsanne, the rain metter is already at Lv1 and the Lamborghini is coming in super hot, only 2s behind me. As soon as the light blue leaves the track on the weather radar, the AI is on steroids. The Lambo overtakes me as I'm cming into Indianapolis, and I get the place back, but overshot the right kink. The lambo takes the position. As I exit arnage with a .500s penalty, the Suzuki also overtakes me.
Lap 6 is just trying to claw back, but no bueno. the Sun is up, the track has a dry line, and dreams are shatering. I head into the pits 3s behind the Lambo, for a bit fo refueling and slicks. Didn't buy softs, so Meds it is.
Lap 7 begins as I come out in 3rd with loss of controll as the pit exit is very wet, and I forgot i'm on slicks. Then I spun by catching water on Tetre Rouge, which sent me backwards into the wall. Luckily the car corrected itself enough that I could just keep going.
22s. behind on the 1st chicane, I just kept trying to gain time. Being a bit conservative with my line so I stay on the dry line, I ended the race in 3rd place, 18.5s behind the leader.
It was unfortunately, a race where I didn't win this time, but very exciting as by handicapping myself, the AI proves a bit of a challenge.
