Ended up taking a trip to the Lego store to get some small gifts for family but ended up grabbing the 1/8 Bugatti Chiron. I did not plan on getting this one, but it was right in front of me.
I also have the Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini Sian, but sadly disassembled them just last week to make room so I won't have them all built together for some time.
Built this near the beginning of lockdown.
Self Isolation blues got the better of my wallet and I Amazon'd this:

After seeing the initial press shots I was on the fence about buying it, but I'm glad I did.
Flared wheel arches aside, it's actually a great model in the flesh. Naturally the quattro's angular shape lends itself well to Lego and compared to the GT-R that I desperately wanted to love, this requires almost no squinting at all to see what car it's supposed to be.
Save for a couple of vents at the rear, this has got to be the first Speed Champions build where the stickers are soley used for the livery, you could easily leave them in the box and the end result wouldn't suffer all that much.
(For the record I hate stickers in general but the ones that come with modern Lego sets are by far some of the worst!)
The result is a very solid feeling model with an almost 80/90's Lego System feel to the finished result (perhaps again due to the angular design and colour palette).
The build lacks any real surprises (unless you count the twin chassis?) and compared to the GT-R and the Senna which were genuinely eye opening at times, wondering which way the build was going to take you, this is much more conventional.
I ended up making two slight modifications to the finished model. The first was to rotate the half studded black tiles at the top of the C pillars so that the roof panel is secured rather than left loose. I recommend this as the fitment of the driver is so snug that his arm pushes against the windscreen causing the roof to not sit flat at times.

The second mod required raiding my spare parts bin (including two tiles from my Creator F40) and was to replace the bright red tail lights with dark tinted grey ones which is one of my favourite features of the real quattro rally cars:

I did also play about with jacking the ride height up a brick for a more off road appearance, however, it didn't quite have the effect I was looking for and looked more 'monster truck' than 'Rally Sweden'.
I finished the Chiron. Gotta say, I think it was my favorite of the three 1/8 cars to build.
He is using the "speed key" to raise and lower the wing, although I find it much easier to lift it manually. I can never find the slot where the key goes.View attachment 986343
What is he doing?
Looks pretty good! I am definitely getting one!Well...curses, looks like I'm spending more money. Looks even better in official photos.

In other news, I think I got my dad hooked on Lego. He sent me a picture last night, he got the Land Rover Defender (on a really good sale from Walmart for USD $160, down from $200). He offered to sell it to me after he builds it, so that's cool.
Agree about the Mustang, I am on the fence about that one still.I find the Mustang cool, but it doesn't really do it for me. So the Porsche is much more up my alley in terms of desire. The hotrod extras didn't interest me as much as the Porsche's ability to go to a targa top.
The Defender is very much worth the price with how well it's detailed. Out of curiosity, did your dad get the Defender kit from Walmart's website or in store? Would be cool if it was actually in the stores.
I'm going to pay him what he paid for it so he can break even, so $160 USD even if it's built and he puts the stickers on crooked. Now that is nice 👍
The Defender is also great, I'm seriously tempted. @SPhilli911 How much does your Dad want for it?

Sadly, it looks like the sale is no longer available for the set. I should have grabbed one myself to pass on to someone looking for one cheap.
Bit of a shame of the 911 is bigger than the F40 but oh well. Still think the F40 is the best creator car yet from Lego. Amazing what they pulled off with that one. That Porsche looks good! Must buy for me. Unfortunately it seems like it's a larger scale than the F40. It seems to be the same scale as the Mustang though.
HAHAHA
It's all about them parsecs, baby.
Think the Ecto-1 initially was around the same price. But sadly it's been scalped to hell online. Last time I checked it was around the $400AUD mark on eBay and Amazon.
The Ecto-1 is a really impressive set and surprisingly large too. Probably worth the money but if you could only have one set maybe the cheaper, but just as impressive 911 is the way to go.The Ecto-1 is back in stock on the Lego shop for $299AUD and free shipping. Think I'm going to pass though. Really want the Porsche next month, just don't have that kind of cash to throw around on both and space is starting to become a bit of an issue now.
I really like this one, but not sure I'll grab it or not yet. I feel bad I missed out on the Mini that would go well will it.Spending my time off building a set (or possibly will do more sets). Didn't realize how "quick" I was able to finish the Fiat 500 set in about 6 hours or less on one night. Rather enjoyed it! Love the paint easel and folding soft top.
